Just curious if the ball sockets are (generally) the same size now that Hasbro has sort of standardized their 6" stuff across several lines: Star Wars, Power Rangers, Marvel Legends.

Can you easily head swap those figures? I only own a few SWB now, but with a Joe line coming it might be fun to do some easy customs.

I'm a bit curious about this too. I bought a Star Wars Black Series from The Last Jedi (one of those red dudes) to make a custom but I couldn't remove his head so I just never got back to it. My experience with Legends and Lightning Collection has been different since their heads all remove quite easily.

Most of Hasbro's Star Wars figures aren't meant to have their heads removed, the few I once tried removing were far from easy and I just gave up. Marvel Legends deliberately feature alternate heads with many figures and so many parts are reused that it much more easily allows custom kitbashing. There are also minor scale differences that could complicate things.

Contrary to what some people believe, there are different teams working on Hasbro's different toy lines. While Marvel Legends and Lightning Collection LOOK similar, the parts aren't compatible between the two lines. At least not without modification or using sticky tac. I just tried to swap some Legends heads on to the Dragon Shield Black Ranger and the ball joints for the heads were different sizes.

Black Series figures also use removable helmets instead of swappable heads so Hasbro doesn't design them to be easily removed from the ball joint. To further complicate things, Hasbro changed the head and neck articulation a couple of years ago, making the newer Black Series figure heads incompatible with the older Black Series figures.

Well different teams doesn't prevent standard parts. It's a little odd Power Rangers uses different pegs. I see no reason for the size difference.

Different teams have different people working on them. It’s only natural that things would turn out differently. It’s like when Mattel had the 4 Horsemen working on DCUC and The Dark Knight Movie Masters, but then they had a different team make the Green Lantern Movie Masters. They were DC figures from Mattel but they were clearly different from the figures made by the 4H.

You also have to factor in what brand owners want in terms of articulation and scale. For example, Lucasfilm doesn’t want a lot of exposed articulation. That’s why most Black Series figures have single jointed elbows and diaphragm joints. And it looks like they may be switching to single jointed knees soon, assuming Dooku is a sign of what’s to come.
