I want to do a custom unmasked Dr. Doom, because there's no way I'm getting the marvel sub one.
My idea is this head; ![]() But the ball joint on Doom's neck is too small, and the head sits too high. How would I go about making this look nice? And, does that head even look good for Doom? I really want to do this, and I'd really appreciate opinions. I could always go the normal route and try a Steve Rogers head. So, yeah, please help me get this head on?

try using a dremel to drill the hole bigger in his head. if you do too much thats ok just use wax(from baby bell cheese) or quakehold to secure the head.

Is there really any substitute for a dremel? I don't have one, and can't see buying one just for one head replacement.
And wait, a dremel won't even help, I don't think. The hole in the head is too BIG. It's a Star Wars head, they have the huge neck ball joints.

You could use a drill or just carve it out with an x-acto knife

The ball part is too small to get the head to fit securely. I could cut the hole deeper to make the head sit lower, but my main problem is getting the head to fit onto the smaller ball.

try hot glue if you can. preferably high heat glue in a low heat gun and dab a drop onto the ball then quickly put the head on that then cut away at the excess with a knife.

Damn. I don't have one, and my girlfriend doesn't either. Is there any good type clay I could use to make the inside of the head tighter?

Wow, no dremel or hotglue gun, what is this world coming to?
![]() I would say try the babybell cheese wax or really any soft wax. Maybe some sticky putty? There are lots of things that would work good. As for the head not sitting low enough, you need a dremel. I guess you could use a knife to gouge out the bottom of the head but it would look terrible and could wreak the head. And you could cut yourself very badly since the head is hard to hold onto. Dremels as long as they are a brand other than Dremel are very cheap. I have seen some nice precision tip ones at Harbor Freight Tools for under $10. I say go buy one and do it right! There are so many uses for one it would not stop with this figure! ![]()

What do I do with the wax though? Put it inside the head and then on the peg to make them match?

Ok, the wax works like the hot glue trick, just not quite as well/permanent.
to get the head to sit lower you have to do one of two things: 1. as everyone is saying, cut more out of the head until it sits low enough or 2. saw the neck ball off, removing some of the material in the process, glue the ball back on. You also have the ball too small problem. to combine solutions you could cut the ball off the starwars fig the head came from (a little under the bottom of the ball), and combine that with the stump of the Doom neck. When I do this type of thing with starwars figs (which has become fairly often) I like to also drill a thin hole down through the SW ball into the neck, and insert a finishing nail through as kind of a spine and add a drop of glue. It helps firm up the joint so the neck seam won't crack apart. |

That, I can do! Now I just need to get my hands on a 2nd Doom so I can have this permanent. Thanks a lot!
What super glue do y'all use? I tried some the other day, and it ended up turning the plastic all white and flakey and stuff.. Wrecked a perfectly good head.

Ok no Dremel to deepen the hole? Grab your drill, and make the hole deeper. Then to make the hole tighter there are a couple of methods. There's Jim's method, or if you are planning to do more customizing you might want to get some green stuff/ kneadatite. It is great for filling neck balls, and as a sculpting material.
As for the super glue I use. It's Bob Smith industries Insta-cure+ Cyanoacrylate. I use the Gap Filling formula because it cures in 5-15. However if you're using it to tighten joints you still need to keep moving the joint for about 2-3 minutes. |

That's what I needed, a brand name product I can use to make the opening smaller. If I can get my hands on a 2nd Doom, I'm going to go with Jim's method, and if I can't get one/have a deal with someone for one by the weekend, I'm just going to get myself some of that Kneadatite and make a replaceable head like I wanted to begin with.
Where do you buy your Kneadatite Rodimus, and does it matter what type? I see there are a few, which one? Would Home Depot, Lowes, or craft stores have it? Ps. The custom accessories in your sig are sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. I wish I could do that ish.

I got my green stuff at thewarstore.com like Onyx from OPP does. Kneadatite Epoxy Modeling Putty (Green Stuff - 3.5oz/100g)
I've never heard of Home Depot, or Lowes carrying any green stuff, and most craft stores carry the Milliput brand of epoxy putty which gets hard as rock, but doesn't stick to the figure. Kneadatite sticks to the figure, and takes details VERY well. The custom accessories in my signature are items that I have in my store. Just click on the sig to check out the store, and check out my forum @ Free forum : Vortious Custom Accessories to stay up dated on things I'm working for the store. Thanks man, I really appreciate it, I screwed myself out of 4 bucks buying an epoxy glue today, not thinking. I was like "an epoxy..? In store..? For 4 bucks? BUY", then I got home and realized it was an epoxy glue.. I fail.
But, yeah, I'm going to try to get my hands on some of that kneadatite. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. :]
