I have apologized already. Twice I believe. But I'll apologize again, I'm sorry that I came off so rude. I noticed you seemed extremely offended earlier that someone questioned you regarding your expectations of feathered dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. I was a little taken back by you stating ebay didn't exist like it was a fact. I'm sorry again for overreacting.
Look man, we all read those Nat Geo's. We all watched those PBS episodes, repeatedly. It's something anyone of us who loves dinosaurs has done throughout our lives. We all watch the "Walking with Dinosaurs" Specials, over and over again. I'm not questioning your credentials. If you read my entire postings, you would know I was simply asking for scholarly references. I'll go and see if I can find some nat geos that ever expanded on the "feathered dinosaurs" connections pre-1993. I'm not trying to attack you, I just find it interesting that's all. This is information, not emotion. Let's all calm down, including you and I, and let's see what we can dig up, because this fascinates me, trying to find information about feathered dinosaurs in journals or publications pre-1993. I honestly didn't know it had been distributed as a theory that thoroughly. Don't be insulted if you honestly read the material, just correct me and let's find a solution together. I don't believe I was trolling, I responded to you harshly, and for that, again, I'm sorry. We've all grown up with dinosaurs, and it's not uncommon for us to mix dates with information. I may be completely wrong that there was no publicized text for a feathered dinosaur theory pre-1993, but let me try and FIND that, and make sense of it. I think we're all hear to talk about the upcoming toyline, if there is one, and I'm sorry for derailing the topic. I hope you can accept my apology. Just a quick note: the first JP movie began pre-production in 1990 and Jack Horner supervised all the dinosaur designs for that film. Pre-production ended a little over two years later and by that point the designs were already set in stone. So unless paleontologists were discussing feathered dinosaurs in the late 80's or earlier, there was no way it was going to show up in the first film.
So don't blame the films for being inaccurate (at least the first one). The crew did the best they could with the knowledge they had at the time. Anyway, enough of that. Back to the topic at hand. As for the toy line, I'd love to see a Joe-compatible line of humans alongside the in-scale dinosaurs (or as close as they can get). I think JP is about more than just the dinosaurs OR the humans. It's about their interaction with each other - something that historically never happened. Without the humans, the whole movie might as well have been a documentary instead.

As a kid, the humans were far more accessible from a financial standpoint, along with the raptor. It was extremely difficult to afford the larger dino's, and by the time any significant event like a birthday or christmas came around, most of the shelves were barren. The only real chance I got to purchase the toys on my own was when TLW came out and I could go spend an entire allowance/paycheck on them.
On the topic of feathered dinosaurs, I've search all night, and beyond Bakker's personal investigations and theories, I've found no scientifically reported or published articles pre-dating 1993 with conceptual theories of dinosaurs physically having feathers. I'll continue though, I find it fascinating. |

So don't blame the films for being inaccurate (at least the first one). The crew did the best they could with the knowledge they had at the time. Actually, with Horner on hand, look at all the stuff they got wrong that was known then. There were no dromaes known to be as large as the Velociraptors are portrayed, yet he still made them nearly 18' long (In fact, there *still* is no known species that fits the movie Velociraptor. Utahraptors, discovered post movie was bigger, and deinonychus was smaller). Triceratops swallowing stones when it could chew. Brachiosaurs chewing when they existed millions of years before the ability evolved. Dozens of things wrong with the tyrannosaur (Teeth too large, arms too large, terrible vision, terrible sense of smell). Basically Spielberg did what Spielberg wanted to do, even with Horner on hand. If he didn't want something, it wasn't going to happen. Horner once said he had to fight like mad to keep the raptors from flicking their tongues like snakes (Grain of salt, I heard this on an intervew on NPR a few years ago, so I can't verify this). So, it was all up to what spielberg wanted. Horner didn't have much say in the franchise until JPIII, in which he had almost full control over the dinosaurs. I find this extremely nonsensical that ebveryone is jumping on me because as a kid I was dissapointed that my favorite dinosaur toy didn't have feathers. why the fuck does it matter to you people??? Leave me the hell alone about it!

Though one thing to remember is that the JP dinos weren't full dinosaurs. They were mutant clones that most closely resembled dinosaurs in appearance, but included, among other types, amphibian DNA. The ability to change sexes was the most notable feature showing they were lab made monsters and not true dinosaurs like Hammond wanted to think. So they way the dinos acted was fine with me, they kept a good amount of facts from the time and descriptions from the books while still being able to be creative with the design. It was the depiction of the human characters they needlessly changed.

I'm laughing my ass off in lecture, while reading people (possibly grown men?) fighting over dinosaurs.

*pretends I didn't read all of the ridiculous ranting*
I'd like to see some new dinosaur toys, I never had them as a kid because they were overpriced and my parents had silly things like bills to pay. |

Tomorow is supposedly the street date right? (or there was no street date, but souces were indicating March was the release?) I actually may go to TRU tomorow and see if anything pops up on the shelves. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised for once.

Is that bite on the side a permanent feature or is the flesh to cover it included?

Ok... I'll bite... John Ostrom rekindled the Dinosaurs became birds when he discovered Deinonychus in the mid 60's... Robbert Bakker took Ostrom's work further in 1975, and by 1979, artists Gregory Paul and John Sibbick were putting protofeathers on illustrations of animals such as Avimimus (the following picture is from a book I've had since Christmas 1987)

I was a dinosaur nut since I started reading at the age of 3. By 7 I was reading college-level books on dinosaurs, correcting my teachers and their 1960's view on dinosaurs, and was more knowledgeable in dinosaurs than 99.99% of the populace. In fact, as a teen, I went to the dinosaur quarry in Utah and corrected the tourguide. He wasn't thrilled, so he went to one of the paleontologists "on duty" and the paleontologist agreed with me. Tourguide apologized. So intelligence DOES happen in America.... we're just really good at hiding it behind Snookies and Charlie Sheens.

But I am happy that fans of the movies and books (and dinosaurs in general) will be able to get them. Quote:
