Can the Fin Fang Foom BAF be taken apart after it is assembled? The figure sure takes up a lot of display space.

Don't forget to pick up the new 3.75 figures from thee classic Marvel comic Gijoe. The new Joe comic by Rob Liefeld is also pretty cool too.

I know MCU stuff isn't everybody's bag, but a bit of Infinity War Hunter and Prey: Proxima Midnight and Scarlet Witch, Corvus Glaive and Vision, and Ebony Maw and Doctor Strange. And yes, I was stupid enough to make the Darkhold :-)

The Universe is expanding.... (pics to follow in next post)
I've been re-watching some shows and movies while on lockdown and recently began watching the Netflix Daredevil series again. This ties in with the recent Battle Van and this batch of figures. I only intended to make 1 maybe 2 more of Frank's partners and allies, then the show watching started along with a recent omnibus buy and I expanded the list enough to make a full batch of related figures. Speaking of omnibus'...In comic news I've gone overboard on omnibuses which is just a great way to have full runs. I can honestly say I don't miss the closet full of comic boxes I used to have. Never again. Among others, I picked up the first volume of Ennis's Punisher, Strazynski's Thor, Miller's Daredevil, and the Uncanny X's are steadily coming in. I've long had most of these in digital format but sitting and reading a physical book is so much easier on the eyes. I bought a bunch of suited bodies from Marauder recently. The last time they were up for sale they sold out so quick I never got to purchase any. This time I stocked up at the start which leaves me a number of suits and no heads/characters for them. A good problem to have. I got the X-File heads a while ago on a whim in a bulk purchase from avacslab. At the time I was already on pandemic lockdown and had started watching the X-Files for the first time since high school/ college years (they should have stopped that show after Season 6). With a number of suits available to me now, I can add some additional government types to the SHIELD area. And since I was making federal agents anyway, Mulder and Scully seemed an obvious choice for background figures. I might go back and paint FBI badges on these two, dunno. Almost forgot, I moved the Jigsaw head onto this Marauder body. I think it looks really nice on a white suit. So, anyway, onto the rest... Exo-skeleton - Until recently I didn't know that "Punisher: War Machine" was actually a thing. I thought it was just a toy Hasbro made to capitalize on the added prominence of War Machine following the MCU. But after doing all this research on the Punisher I found that he had the exo-skeleton long before stealing the War Machine armor. Putting this together was pretty straight forward. I added magnets to the forearms and center back. I did this largely for the shield at first, then decided it might be interesting to augment his armaments by using those spots to attach more guns. At that point I decided to go all out and snipped off the ball joints and added more magnets. Now I can swap the guns all around the figure and they're also interchangeable with the various magnet points on the van. (I still want to go back and add rocket pods – via magnets – to the thighs, but I need to get another first.) I almost left the figure as is and just gave it a paint job, but the arc reactor hole in the chest was bothering me too much. So I filled in the hole and sculpted an "armor plate" over the top along with a couple of smaller bits that I turned into the skull logo. Since I'm not a fan of him taking the War Machine armor, I've done some world building for my MU that gives credence to Punisher having an armored suit. The primary components of which were taken after a successful raid on an AIM workshop. The long missing Vibranium disk was also found during this raid and was subsequently turned into the Punisher shield by a street artist that Mirco commissioned. The exo-skeleton is currently in retirement. While it can carry a ridiculous amount of firepower, it was deemed too heavy and unyielding making it a poor offensive weapon for the Punisher. Punisher on Trial (2 pack) - This is largely inspired by the "Trial of the Century" from Daredevil season 2. Those episodes were running while I was making the ‘bloody’ head for the Castle figure. I had made the head just to make it. However, I liked the head so much I didn’t want to keep it in a baggie so I made a body to put it on rather than stowing it away. I sculpted up the entire jumpsuit for this figure. A lot of tedium, but the end results I like and if I have need to sculpt an entire figure I've already got some practice. I put him in the green outfits that NY uses. I thought about putting him in orange, but it's kind of cliche. I didn't put "blood" on the figure because I want to be able to switch a non-bloody head onto the body. I've modded all of the heads for the various Punisher figures so I can easily swap them around by very carefully shaving down the neck hole. And since every defendant gets a lawyer, Frank got one of the best in Matt Murdock. A very straight forward recipe of a Marauder suit and cast head I painted up a while ago. I made the cane from a G.I. Joe antenna of some sort and gave him a Marauder case to carry that I added a handful of documents too (I also keep the magazines in the case so I know where to find them). The cast was originally to make an unmasked Daredevil look. I'll still do that at some point, but in the meantime Frank needed a lawyer. Lady Punisher (Lynn Michaels) - This was one of the two figures I was planning to make to add to the Punisher's Krew. While the Punisher is not a superhero in need of a sidekick, he does need like minded allies. Because who doesn't? I used a Fantastic3DCustoms head and standard female body mix. Typical black and white paint job and some Marauder gear to finish her off. This is the first "Lady Punisher" character that I came across on the net. Even though she's from the 90's I didn't learn of her until a couple of years ago so she's a blank slate character. I know she's an ex-cop, but not much else. I didn't read much Punisher in the 90s. Following her most recent release from Prison, Lynn could no longer serve as law enforcement, but her views on crime had not changed. Following up on a case she'd heard about during her last days as a cop, she began probing her underworld contacts for a mysterious "spook" that was said to have gone black but continues to work against organized crime from the shadows. Her inquiries would eventually draw the scrutiny of the Punisher, who - having followed the events that led to her incarceration - brought her onto the Krew. Warzone (camo) - I wasn't sure I ever wanted a Punisher in green. But while looking up designs for the paint job I did on the exo-skeleton's head I saw some camo type looks I thought were interesting. I didn't use any of them, but I got inspired to make this look. Hopefully the picture will come out, but the face paint is made to look worn and streaky from days in the bush. As is the rest of the design. I painted on a nice US Marine jungle camo pattern then put paint all over so it looked like he'd spent extended periods walking, kneeling and lying in dirt, mud and swamp waters. It came out really well, but I wish I took a pic of the finished figure before I did that. But, I don't tend to take WIP pics, so whatever. I sculpted over the legs entirely. Hasbro didn't produce and pant legged figures that matched the look I wanted so I made it myself. Plus I wanted to take another stab at sculpting pants. I figure he'd be traveling relatively light so outside of the removable webgear he only has a holster at the small of his back. War Journal - As part of the "Punisher series" I started putting together, I finally made the all-black sans coat Punisher outfit. Way back when I made the first Punisher figure I had dickered between the classic look and all black with white skull that was more modern. Classic won out, but I knew I'd get to the all black look eventually (the trench coated 'tactical' custom doesn't count). Since there's only so many ways to make a white skull on all black look visually appealing, I gave this one a 'scuffed up' kind of look. Topped off with a load of Marauder gear and he's set. Similar to what I added to the classic design, I'm eventually going to add an armor facemask from Marauder to this figure as well - always thought it weird no one just shot him in the face since he didn’t cover it. I'd use the one from the classic look, but it's too clean and clashes with the paint job on this guy. The mask for this figure will match the paint scheme here. Carlos Cruz – Don’t know anything about the character background story wise. I’ve only seen the art design on the internet and liked the overall look. I making him If the shoulder pads and spikes. They were a bit too 90’s for me to include. I did go with the knee and shin armor though, which I’m kind of surprised about, since they look gaudy. I also tweaked his head design. I honestly couldn’t tell if the art was supposed to depicted a half-skull helmet over a mask or what, so I made my own design while trying to keep the half-skull look. I’ve yet to get to the 90’s Punisher run that birthed all the weird knock-off Punishers that I’m only just finding out about, so in my MU Carlos is an ex-Army Ranger living on the west coast who joined the Border Patrol as an Investigative agent after his term of service. His biggest case involved the seizure of 4 trailer loads of drugs and contraband at a seldom used section of the border. This earned the ire of a Mexican carte that put out a hit on him and his entire family. Despite a gunshot wound to the face, Carlos survived the massacre and was hospitalized. His recovery led him to cross paths with the Punisher. The two men have been allies ever since, often teaming up to take down large drug rings across the North and Central America. Additional Allies & Armaments: Microchip & J. Wick - These two are straight Marauder figures and not part of the customs. They're only here for the character content. In my MU Microchip isn't some schlub. He's an ex-CIA agent who was profiled during his recruitment as a "highly intelligent, cyber whizkid with a penchant for working on automobiles." After 7 years of dutiful service one day he just stopped showing up to work. He stopped collecting his paychecks, all debts were paid in full. Every active account that was tied to his name was closed. He simply vanished from public record. All pursuits into his whereabouts have since hit dead ends and in the years since he's been dubbed a 'myth' by the intelligence community. Sometime in the years that followed, Microchip became entangled with the Punisher during his earliest days as a vigilante. The two weren't allied at the time when Frank had saved his brother and his brother's family from violent reprisals from a Latino gang operating in Jersey. Mr. Wick is an associate of Micro’s from his CIA days. While the two don’t mix as part of the Punisher’s world, Micro still turns to him from time to time when he needs information. Battle Van - I covered the van pretty well previously. But there some additional elements that I didn't feel like typing up last time. Since the previous pics, I’ve added a NY motorcycle plate onto the bike and painted up the engine and exhausts with detail. On the van itself, I wanted to be able to swap out a wide array of attachments. However, I didn't want to be too constrained in what I could do, so that meant not putting holes all over the van for things to plug into. So I went back to magnets and used just about all the magnets I had left at the time. The van has magnets in various spots across the roof. These are for the antennas, the stowage container and the van's offensive weaponry (there's also a magnet at the front hood for a whip antenna or a minigun). There's two magnets on each rear tire wall. Two magnets set on the floor behind the driver's seat (1 for the fire extinguisher and 1 for the medkit). I made two additional "hooks" made from magnets next to the opening side door for storing the rear headsets and/or facemasks. At the rear there's magnets making the hook holder and there's magnets in a post for the chair/gun post to attach to - depending on what I choose to have there. (The gun post can also connect directly to the chair though I'm going to make a smaller version for that purpose and leave this one as s standing mount for the guns.) And lastly there's magnets on each rear door that the riot shields connect to. Having the door come off and be a shield is a really dumb Marvel idea, but removable riot shields makes sense. And it leaves the van structurally intact. Additionally I filled out the accessory compliment I wanted and am just about done. There’s a few odds and ends I want to add as permanent attachments, but nothing that will warrant new pics in the future. But it’ll be nice to have this finished. Anyway, I completed the miscellaneous gear that goes with the van. Added a tool crate, ammo crate and a medical crate. There’s 1 more crate to go, but I don’t have it yet and it won’t be anything special. Most of the items here are a mix of Marauder and Avacslab accessory items. Check em out and support small business in these trying times!! |
