I was pretty sure it was just a straight repaint.

the orange head is way different...like a roar captured mid way. Google image FIN FANG FOOM MARVEL UNIVERSE and you will see. Not sure about the body, but unless your at SDCC expect to pay near the same amount for him in the secondary market...if he were to ever be released.

As Kylactus mentioned, female heroes generally aren't that popular with little boys, which is Hasbro's target audience when it comes to Marvel toys. If female action figures didn't sell, Hasbro probably wouldn't even bother making them at all. Why make a product that no one will buy? So it's not a question of whether female action figures sell or not, it's how many will sell.

With regard to villains, I'd imagine typical boys in Hasbro's target age group just want their favorite hero and one other guy to act as that hero's punching bag. So it doesn't really matter which villain they get, whereas collectors actually care about the details and have favorite villains.

It was my understanding that the whole idea was scrapped, as in neither it nor the remold will ever get released.

This is the flaw in the reasoning for female figures. The assumption is that action figures are for boys and dolls are for girls. When in reality it's only a matter of taste instead of gender specific toy lines. Female heroes typically sell out whenever they are on shelves. I can't think of a single female figure that's ever peg warmed from Marvel. They need to up the case assortments on that end to reflect as such. I'd be more inclined to believe it's on the retailer end demanding mainstays to stay interested in the offerings, as they don't often have accurate retail data and are only reacting on their own "base understanding."

The old mentality of "girls toys" and "boys toys" needs to be tossed out the window. They should focus on them being "Marvel superhero toys" that are for fans both young(kids) and old(collectors) instead of attempting to gender role them.

Out of the new offerings with Infinite. So far the only two that are direct must haves for me personally are Red She-Hulk and Wasp. Wasp herself is also a direct example of a female figure they should push more. She was an audience favorite when Avengers: EMH was airing and would cater well to both boys and girls who enjoyed that show. As a figure she has high demand before even factoring in collectors. Shortpacking her as they have makes no sense whatsoever when you look at her marketability.

As for villians, that varies. Some are high demand, while others are too obscure. Oddly enough Batroc though is a mildly high demand one now thanks to the animated Ultimate Spider-man. So as long as the animated presences keep bolstering visibility, they could do more obscures with an expected demand behind them.

Again though, the problem is on retailers. The typical retailer knows Ironman, cap, thor, hulk, etc. Pretty much any mainstay or movie titled character. So to them, ordering a case of pure obscures or female figures or anything that's "alien to them and not prioritizing general recogniziability is a risky endeavor." Whereas kids watch the toons and the movies +more. And instead are missing out on exactly what they want to purchase.

Take Thor for example. A warriors three box set makes sense on all ends except to the retailer who has no idea who they are. Toss Sif in there too and it's guaranteed to not stay on shelves.

The fact it'd have no Thor figure though, means retailers would want to skip that idea even if it would sell like hot cakes.

This is the problem with the middle man major retailer system, but it's slowly changing as visibility is increasing more and more. Personally, I think it's the major retailer system that's the real culprit behind the slow sales of action figures.

Sales are slow, but stores aren't carrying what's sought after. They cling to the notion of the mainstays being what should be pushed which in turn is causing the slow rate of sales, and then them wanting to axe carrying the line altogether. Pretty much they are shooting themselves in the foot, and then taking away what's a decent product line because of forcing hasbro to appease them.

How we've yet to have a White Tiger figure because of her ultimate Spider-man exposure is further evidence of this appeasement. She's high profile to kids and collectors alike, but not to retailers at all. She'd be a high demand figure the same as Wasp is, and she also expands on the diversity of the figures as well.

Can I please just get a Batroc(classic with a movie varient), Executioner ( he's already made for godsake), Emma Frost (see last comment)Graviton (use a skrull body and a dr strange head retool if you must)Wendigo and a Titiana (easy She-Hulk repaint) and I would be happy with the villians line-up

Graviton yes! and if we got a Graviton we have a figure that is a good ways towards resembling Count Nefaria as well - and yes I've thought about the Dr. Strange head for both of those figures.

I like your list but I'd have to add Selene, Lady Deathstrike, Viper and Madame Masque as well. Selene I could see being made partly from a Psylocke (in fact my "custom" Selene is a Psylocke head on an X-23 body lol), and maybe an Emma Frost body i black. Viper and MM I'm sure there could be some type of figure base already made to mostly create that. I guess Lady Deathstrike if they went with the iconic look would be an all new mold though. Still I really do want all six of those figures I mentioned...actually that's my top six most wanted villains.

Though I would also love to see the Executioner made and I think we will see him and Frost released, and then Titania as well - given the She Hulk build can only be used for a certain number of figures I'd think they want to get more use out of it.

graviton wasn't as beefy as Hyperion in the beginning wasn't he?
I am thinking a less beefier base...agree with the other parts though

Now that the Hercules buck is an option for figures, I think that we could see characters like Holocaust and Onslaught. Now technically Onslaught is too big for this buck (being listed as ~10' tall) and Holocaust is also pretty big in the comics, but hardly any figures are in scale. I imagine Hasbro would probably use Nemesis or Genocide as Holocaust's name due the negative associations of that word, as of now these figures aren't happening, but they could.

Here here to more villains. I think every five waves they should re-insert an army builder. I am nuts for army building, so that is just my opinion. I really want:
1.Executioner
2.Baron von Struker
3.Super Skrull
4.Annihilus
5.Gravitron
in no particular order...
Main characters, nothing too crazy. A simple request, I think!

I really liked Snow Flakian's take on the whole boy/girl toy gender issue. And as far as I know, that MU Fin Fang Foom is dead as disco. I like Gravitron with a big Hillbilly Jim beard...just my opinion.

I am wondering if the Con and other exclusives will be MARVEL UNIVERSE or MARVEL INFINITE? Not a biggie either way to me, as we open our figures.... but still, just wondering for the MOC guys.

I never said it was right, just stating the reality of the situation. The primary audience for Hasbro's Marvel division is pre-teen boys 6-10 years old. So they, like most toy makers, skew their marketing and manufacturing to that demographic.

I do agree that we are moving away from "boys' toys" and "girl toys" mentality from a societal standpoint, but it's a very slow process. I personally think Nerf Rebelle and Lego Friends are ridiculous concepts for similar reasons as what you've mentioned. But just because we don't agree with their reasoning doesn't mean the whole toy industry paradigm is going to shift any time soon.

In a lot of ways, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Hasbro makes more of the mainstays and male heroes than villains or female characters. Those are the ones that end up with higher sales numbers more simply due to higher availability.

And of course that has had absolutely nothing to do with collectors and "scalpers" buying up what little is actually produced by Hasbro because they're fans of the character or simply that they are short-packed/rare, right?

Then again, I've seen MU Mystique, Black Widow, Jean Grey, Jubilee and even She-Hulk peg-warm at various points in the last 6 years. It didn't last long, but that has just as much to do with people buying them as it does with Hasbro not making any more.

Yes more villains !!!! I like your list UKMU, & Cap. I always have to throw batroc in the mix, ultimate spiderman makes him a lovable joke, lol I think WS made him right a deadly to everyone else small timer ..but still a joke kind if villain. We don't have enough of them besides spideys villains and the wrecking crew. Most made are all boss villains. Ya know some times me and my son want to just stop a bank robbery, not save the universe lol

Yes, give us the street theft crime team pack! With Looter, Grizzly, and Spot! Three small-time crooks whose biggest accomplishments in life are getting their respective faces punched by Spider-Man (well technically not Spot, but he still lost).

hell look at Spiderman! if you racked your brain you could probably come up with 20 great villains in the spidey verse that need to be made. you don't even have to go into the obscure, Doc.Oc, vulture, sandman, hydro, VENOM!, carnage, jackal, Kane, cardiac, shocker, lizard, kingpin, jack o lantern, tombstone, scorpion, black cat, chameleon, madam web, tarantula, prowler, swarm... ok now I'm getting obscure.

Spot could be done easily with the existing Spiderman bulk
same for Chameleon...I would like to see:
Scourge
Kraven
Shocker and
a decent Alistair Smythe in 6 in scale

We need more villains overall...most of the villains have the cool gear....

better yet Spiderman and his Amazing friends 3 pack

Very true on all parts. Jean Grey has been pretty much the only female figure I've ever seen peg warm for an extremely long duration.

Personally, I think they underestimate their audience if it is because of their market data. Even when I was a youngin, I'd want the full team, not just the guys of the team. Fantastic 4 without invisible woman made no sense. It makes about as much sense as Astonishing X-Men Cyclops without Emma Frost, or Daredevil without Elektra or Psylocke without Uncanny X-Force Archangel or Fantomex. That's not even counting the Avengers or Cosmic that need the new Captain Marvel, or SHIELD agents without Maria Hill or GOTG without Gamora and so on. As a kid, you want your favorite characters and what you see in your comics or on the screen no matter what gender they are.
