You are correct sir! I have been buying Joes to play with my little boy when he is a littler older. My Joes universe is more realistic and does not follow the Joe mythos, so a hooded guy with a sword does not fit. But I liked the figure and he was cheap so I had to find a place for him. Marvel did GI Joe comics, so onto the evil shelf he goes.

I want to give appreciation to the dollar store Iron Man, Captain America and Spiderman. I got these for my son, who is 2 1/2, because he loves the cartoons and I wanted to get him interested in 3 3/4" figures. I loved playing with my Star Wars and Joes when I was young (lets be honest, I still love playing with them) and wanted him to love it too. He is just too rough with regulare Iron Man or Marvel Universe figures for me to comfortably allow him to play with them. These figures are perfect because they do not have the small parts or articulation that can break under heavy toddler use. I let him play with them under supervision and he loves them! He mixes them with his 10" Avengers figures, 10" Batman, 10" Batman and Rescue Bots. It is great to see his imagination at work. It also allows me to teach him to play nice with his toys so that when he is ready to play with Joes I will not have to worry so much that he will destroy them.

After seeing the glory that is my collection at my office, when anyone asks my son what Daddy does at work he says "Play toys." I wish!
Since I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 month old, having the collection in the house is not feasible. My paralegal came into my office and expressed amazement at the size of my collection. She asked if I have a man cave and I told her that she was standing in it. ![]() |

My kids are into Marvel. When I get a figure for my collection I usually get 2 I keep mine in the box and My kids play with theirs. Daughter likes X-men Son likes Avengers go figure. I just got a Scarlett Witch for her as a stocking stuffer and the jubilee. My son likes the Beta Ray Bill (Planet Hulk animated movie) and a white Iron Fist (spider-man cartoon).

I'll remember to be careful with her when I get one. I have the same issue with Ultimate Spider-man. He can rotate his arms, but trying to lift at the shoulder articulation has caused one of the arms to be in that process of breaking the peg off at the swivel. |

No issues at all with my Jubes. There was probably a drop of paint or glue or something that ran into the joint there and kind of sealed it up. I've definitely experienced that with some figures here and there. If a joint is not moving and feels locked up try running it under hot water for a few minutes and slowly start to wiggle it. You can also get an X-Acto knife and just kind of poke in around the joint to break up whatever is in there.

I have been pretty lucky so far with quality. Only other issue I had was Iron Fist's leg came off. I do wonder though if these figures can handle actual play by children. Marvel Universe feels fragile to me. The movie figures are far more robust. I view Marvel Universe figures geared more toward the collector who displays them and occationally poses them for dios and the movie figures for play by children. I wish Hasbro would construct Marvel Universe figures the same way they do Joe figures, with at least a metal bar for the legs instead of plastic. Since Prof. X is the Destro figure with a different head, he has a metal bar. I will say though, the Retaliation Joe figures feel less substantial than the 25th anniversary or Renegades figures.

Most hold up really well. For me it's mostly just been the swivel bicep that any breaks have ever happened on, and it's been the wirey characters that it's happened on like Spider-man, and Starlord.
The only other figure I've ever had an issue with was Bullseye v2 with his leg swivel, but I saw that was loose when I bought the CP. If anything. MU is more durable than toy biz was pre-legends. That plastic outright broke. This plastic mostly bends or stretches and for me at least, at most a leg pops off that can be popped back on. With toy biz figures, when a leg broke off or an elbow, there was no snapping it back together. It would snap off with an actual break. |

As much as I love articulation, I wouldn't mind getting rid of the bicep swivel... You never see broken arms with the Iron Man 2 & Captain America: TFA figures. They make up for it with the hinge-swivel elbows instead of the single hinged elbows.

I tend to agree. I like the bend and swivel elbows more than I like bicep swivel. The only time I prefer bicep swivel is when the arms are double hinge elbows.

I like the biceps swivel, but wouldn't have a huge problem if they did away with them either. The one cut I'd really like to see go away is the thigh swivel. Hate it.

What makes no sense to me though is below the knee calf swivels on thigh swivel figures. That one can go away and not even be noticed. In most cases it's just an annoyance on posing and the feet can usually rotate anyway, so it's unneeded entirely. Last edited by Snowflakian; 11-30-2012 at 01:31 PM.. |

Yeah, I was really impressed with the sculpting work and detail he put in on the scales. I have zero skill in that area and I'm still learning how to do a good paint app.
