you know i just realised what's kind of shady. we've all assumed the shift away from x-men was largely influenced by marvel's lack of rights, but there's also the element that x-men has traditionally done better with minorities. since Dave Vonner left we've seen little in the way of X-men.
probably a coincidence, but I get the feeling Vonner would have pushed for x-men more than the current crowd. at the very least we'd have gotten a less shitty Bishop figure. |

The question then is why one feels the need to attempt to degrade other collectors. I don't agree with the Happy Meal comparison, but it's a criticism of the product. If the "doll" appellation is is meant to be emasculating to the collectors of other scales, it's crossing the line from criticism of a product to attacking other people. Why you feel emasculation is a good way to degrade others is problematic itself when you're using normative Western perceptions of masculinity as a metric, since toy collecting in any form is generally seen as an unmasculine activity. This is ignoring the fact that many of these other collectors aren't even men, so emasculation becomes a bit of a moot point. Why the need to attack other collectors at all, even with a flawed and passive aggressive method?
I use "dolls" as a pejorative towards the product, not the consumers, just as you describe for the term "happy meal." And I recognize that it connotes emasculation because the term "action figure" was coined for boys where "doll" was already used for girls; therefore, by definition, "dolls" is a term that emasculates. I can agree with everything you originally said without condoning the use of the word "dolls" as a pejorative towards people. But thanks for your response - it really helps drive home the fact that Dwight Stall is mismamaging one of his brands by using similar language. |

The distinction in my mind between dolls and action figures is clothing, and durability, you would play with an action figure outside in the tub and in the sand box, a doll is more for poseing, dressing up, display, and light play. I consider most Neca products dolls. I don't find the term denigrating at all, Merely a distinction between sub classes of the same vein of collecting. I have dolls, action figures, toys, collectibles, even a puppet. This could be a good time to coin a new term for shitty happy meal quality garbage that's marketed as it were a quality product. I'm submitting, fig- shit.

That is the question only if YOU make it the question. The original issue was Dwight Stall using insulting phrases like "and now for the real collectors..." to introduce 6" figure previews. Or did I miss your condemnation of Dwight's practice?

I'm still confused as to the pejorative value of "doll" toward the product though. Aside from the "for girls" connotation and emasculation of the presumed male buyer, what negative connotation does "doll" have toward the product's quality like "happy meal's" implied cheapness? |

I will not accept insults or personal attacks on the forums. If you cannot discuss things in a civil manner, I will begin removing people from the discussion and/or close the thread. Follow the rules and that won't happen.

Ignore this, check the post below mine. That Black Panther looks fantastic, and I'm likely to replace the existing version on my Avenger shelf with this guy.

Lol whatever...this no torso articulation sickens me. Cap/iron man easy pass, both reissues. BP and Carter only thing worth picking up and only have to deal with the BP as the dud. Was it too hard to retool the BP we just got in this wave?

I just called consumer care for Hasbro to make a few comments and complaints about the direction of our line. The rep took notes and even repeated them all back to me to send to thier team. My request was simple; we as consumers would like the same care and progression as the 6" line and mentioned Dwight's comments about the 4" line. We want the articulation back. We want more product and to actually see them distributed. She took all my concerns seriously and like I said, repeated to make sure my voice was heard.
I encourage anyone to join the chorus to let our concerns be heard. Guys we're being fed breadcrumbs from the Legends table, it's time we let them know how we feel. 800-255-5516 |

Good to see.....
Are there loose pics of THAT version of Luke floating around? I don't think I've ever seen one. Surely there are some loose figures floating around in some kids toy box near Hasbro. I would love to see some if anyone knows of any.... Pretty sure Raf isn't ripping into his anytime soon! ![]()

There is a Chinese hard copy prototype on eBay. It's been there for years.
