G.I. Joe pretty much is the modern Howling Commandos from WWII. And Hydra with Cobra works brilliantly because of that fact too. (Plus they both have the snake basis.)

Modern G.I Joe was a product of Marvel and Hasbro working together. Hasbro went to Marvel and asked them to create a team with a backstory and an on-going comic series that would tie-in with their toy line. Marvel simply dusted off a proposal for the relaunch of Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD comic and reworked the characters into what we now know of as GI Joe. Duke and Nick are the same guy.

Kind of. Originally Duke was gonna be Fury's son long before Fury had a son, so in concept yeah. Duke isn't a re-imagining of the original Nick Fury, he's a reworked and recycled use of a marketing plan to sell toys which involved a proposed child of Fury. I've always felt weird about G.I. Joe and Transformers comics (from Marvel back in the day or whoever does 'em now). I have a great deal of nostalgia for the old Transformers comics and I was really happy to find an original run copy of issue #1 and what not, but I've always seen them for what they are. Very poorly made and rushed comics to sell toys. I don't fault them at all since they got the job done and have some nostalgia credit (like I said) but they're basically just toy catalogs with speech bubbles. Regardless, Joes and SHIELD working together against Hydra and Cobra is a really easy way to blend collections with some fun.

Here's a good write up explaining how Fury Force(SHIELD) became GI Joe with some cool concept art. Comic Book Urban Legends Revealed #32 - Comics Should Be Good! @ Comic Book ResourcesComics Should Be Good! @ Comic Book Resources I pretty much mix all my figure lines into one verse. GI Joe and SHIELD are a joint task force operating the Stargate program exploring alternate realities where they may encounter superhumans, aliens, Transformers, post apocalyptic world where zombies(Walking Dead, Resident Evil), or Terminstors while still battling a Cobra/Hydra force.

Ok Joe fans, I need some figures for armies. Not concerned with which side they are on or their rank. Only thing is colour. I have 2 modified Airtights that are HYDRA mech drivers. Brings a bit of yellow in nicely to the mosh green mech. The mechs are Joe line as well. (Posting some pics tonight) For A I M have two of the Tech Vipers (?) from the recent two pack with blowtorch and they are still in need of some more yellow paint and heads. Anyway, I guess what I am asking is there any green and yellow guys for HYDRA that I missed. The shade of green and yellow is VERY important and must mTch the Cap movie variant troopers..... Also, any Joes with black/dark blue gear with white hands and feet'? What about some that could work as Skrulls with a head swap?? Also. Any golden guys that could fit in with the Chitauri army?

We have Beast, Lockheed, and Spider-Woman so those are some members/associates of Sword. I think it's because Sword is still so relatively new, being only around ten years old with not many appearances or moments of great credibility in that time they aren't big on most customizers thoughts I'd reckon. I have seen a custom Abigail Brand, but no one's jumping to have Sword that much.
