Dude, WE are the marvel fan base... and yeah, I think a lot of people who collect 3.75 are a bit miffed that we got the shaft and ML took off to a level I don’t think we’ve ever seen in a toy line. But I honestly don’t think they could sustain two scales with the level of sculpt, articulation, and variety both ML and MU were and are putting out. So you end up with one flagship line for collectors and kids, and a few lines of low articulation, and price point ( with quality to match) like the titan heroes, and the 5” line. But I do think we”ll get another good 3.75 line eventually, it may take a while, but it will happen. Honestly I’d prefer them just shelving the scale for now than what they’ve done with he Star Wars 3.75 lines with cuts to articulation, releases of well articulated figures in low quantity or as exclusives, an increased price point, and constant re releases of the same figure over and over. But that’s just me.

SOME of us are part of that Marvel fanbase im just shitting on the ones who let the line go under.
technology today is miles ahead so scaling down sculpts should not be too much of an issue.
im wondering if Hasbros decision to move their production out of china has something to do with "leaks" onto chinabay.

Probably less to do with leaks and more to do with China's massive economic rise the last decade. It used to be China was the go-to place for dirt cheap manufacturing, but as they've grown into more of an economic powerhouse, those prices have gone up significantly.

Yeah, it sucks, but that was also a point Vala raised. We were probably heading in a direction where we were gonna start seeing the same cost cutting that hit the 3.75" Star Wars stuff.

Well hasbro itself is to blame. Cutting artic, jacking prices up to insanely stupid levels and expecting the consumer to just go okay thats fine, is what did it. You cant blame collectors for speaking with their wallet because hasbro got chinsey,

i hear a lot of gripes about artic but most people here pose their collections in a stationary position XD its not like this thread is bombarded with ACBA shots.and besides real collectors dont really care as they had 5POA figures back in the day, they have a soft spot for them.
the price hike wasnt extreme, the most it went was 5 dollars but even then where was the 3.75" community at cons to talk about this to Hasbros panels?i mean look at boogs con QandAs his line of questions are solid and if him and others are annoyed about figs they dont act like cancer on forums about it.they talk to the creators about making it worth their while collecting their product.

The reason for the price hike is China’s emerging middle class, and the fact that, although China does have some near slave ( or in some cases actual slave ) labor most western countries won’t do business with those factories, most Chinese facilities are that make American goods maintain decent standards of safety and pay. No one wants to end up like Nike in the 90’s ( they had Cambodian slave kids sewing shoes in a sweat box, and when someone got seriously hurt or killed on the line they’d fire them or dump the body in a pit out back.) the plastic cost is a factor, but nearly as much so as tooling, that’s #1, and assembly, which is time consuming is #2.

Ive read this several times but its more likened to hasbro being chinsey. No way in hell does a 7-8 point articed fig under 4 inches with no accessories warrant a price tag above 8 bucks. Trying to get 13 plus dollars for said figs is just whack.

3.75 was pretty good about the reuse of molds to keep tooling costs down (reusing parts of Doom for Ultron is still a masterful move), but I can see how that'd increasingly be a pain in the ass.

Fans in general, 3.75 inch or other, do care about articulation.

The lack of action pics here or any other thread isn't an accurate measure of their personal figure preferences. Plus there are plenty of guests and members alike that visit threads but do not post a single comment let alone even a snapshot of their collection.

While vintage 3.75 inch action figures may strike a certain nostaglia, it may not necessarily reflect same desire in articulation for modern figures. Star Wars 3.75 inch collectors (TVC especially) are constantly updating their collection, replacing lesser articuated/detailed versions with more articulated/detailed ones like the recent Gamorrean Guards and Stormtroopers. And those are examples of troop builders too, not mentioning the dozens of Lukes and Hans being replaced.

Articulation can also be had at a cheaper price point as Lanard's The Corps line continues to thrive with recent articulation upgrades at a fraction of the Marvel Legends branded MU figures.

Finally, even on the opposite pole of cost, fans are willing to shell out big bucks for their 3.75 inch figure collection. From paying an average of $25 US Dollars for Boss Fights, Marauder Tasks, Acid Rain, Hiya, etc...to the HasLab Jabba's Barge, collectors and fans are out there consuming the 3.75 inch scale regardless of the reasons Hasbro has for shutting down most of their lines.

Mattel released the Secret Wars line in the 1980s, 16 figures in the basic 'he man' pose. Using the boil and pop method I was able to custom over a hundred Marvel characters, showing both the scope of the lines potential and the magnitude of Mattel's failure. This shows what can be done if you plan your tooling wisely.

Eh...I'd prefer something a little more detailed than the blank Secret Wars bodies. That obviously cut it in the 80s but things are different now.

Agreed. I don't do anything with my creations but stand them on a shelf, but making sure they have as much articulation as possible (character dependent) is one of my primary considerations.

Agree here, too. Even back when I was "buy & collect" the price was never a factor because I was buying something that I wanted at a price I was willing to pay. If I didn't like the price I just wouldn't buy it. I've left plenty of figures on the pegs over the years. The fact is everything has gone up in price over the last decade. It's rare if you can find something that costs the same now as it did even 2 years ago. I've watched Hot Toys figures climb from sub $100 a figure to now being $400+ on average in 5 years. That's life in a capitalistic society.

One of Hasbro's early mistakes (that they've now corrected) was underestimating the customizing market. I spend more on MU figures in a year now then I did the entire time I was just collecting. Because the only way to get parts is to buy more bodies. Hasbro caught on to that (eventually) which is why they started packing alternate character heads in with the figures instead of making a whole extra figure on its own and selling it with that head. Because people will buy more of the base figure to get another body to stick the head on. It's a great business model that the idiot bean counters ignored for years.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting. Lord Mudd, what do you think of that Ubiquitous set now that you've had it for a while? I've been debating on if I want to get some of those or not. Thoughts?

I like the look of it a lot, BUT, I have not sat down and figured out the lighting AND you definitely need more than one which I am not ready to do at this time.

Dafuq u smokin (again)!!! Asking thee Robert Best if he'd love to do that sexy sexy sexy Tom Cruise (as a toy that is). All you who think the fate of 3.75 is in the hands of HasStall? Think again. Mattel just announced they are making the official "Top Gun Maverick" toyline complete with vehicles, playsets, and hence very likely 3.75 = http://www.toyark.com/top-gun-maveri...1/?#post807554

Sidenote: Robert Best is a big classic film fan. So I sent him the following photos,

Just with that jacket / patches alone, Robert Best can do figures for 2 retro films = Top Gun and the Bridges of Tokyo Ri. I hope Mr. Best will do more retro cool Barbies, yet with more male / military figures from more classic films. Congrats to Mattel for getting BOTH the Top Gun license and yet another Marvel license!

That's the part I was curious about. For what I was thinking of doing I couldn't see completing the project with less than four, and at $100 a pop, I'd rather make something myself for much less money output. Ah well, thanks!

Interesting.....

Does anyone feel that if boss fight are getting into pop culture/movie figures that maybe they might soon look for bigger/better lines like Marvel

Hopefully that's the case but I think it could be wishful thinking....

Still though

I don't see BFS going after Marvel because of Disney. More likely they will make a name for themselves with other properties and Disney will go to them. Now whether they do it nice and offer to bid it out or like they usually do and ruin a good thing by buying them out.....

How is it going fellas. Been super lazy lately, totally unmotivated. Today ends the slump and can't help but to either hear, see, or read the Marvel Legends Dwight Stall nonsense. It may be over for our scale with hasbro but marvel universe figures will continue to be churned out in the lab. Don't give in guys and lets keep each other inspired. Made this Ares last year with plenty of extras so decided to make the black pants version. Dremeling out the helmet was the hardest part.
Well lets get started on the black pants version.
