I've opened my final couple of figures, firstly Whirlwind. When I think of him I think of the scene in A:EMH where Wasp is chasing him, then I remember that it's actually Enchantress. Still here he is:

She chased him in the EMH Ant-Man & Wasp debut episode, so, still counts!

MCU Taskmaster. Swappable Panther claw hands, sword that fits in the quiver, pistol and removable hood. Just waiting for a compound bow from MTF. Head isn't perfect but will do until I find something better!!!

Thanks, Mordiganne.

He was a repainted GI Joe Retaliation Budo with a Boss Fight head sculpt (right on the money, Creator).
It’s an absolutely stunning samurai figure that Hasbro did and seemed perfect for my Marvelous JOE Silver Samurai. They did reuse the figure for Bludgeon (JOE/Transformer crossover) and a subscription Budo (the version in my JOE collection).

Bro loving your take on customs. Being a fellow customizer and going thru the process of modding my entire Marvel collection I to understand the highs and lows of paint rub. I solved that problem by sanding all parts with 320 sandpaper which is very timely but effective. The Boss Fight review was nice also along with that Red Sonya. When I get around to Red think i'll try the Valkyrie mold.

The worst and best part of my custom process to avoid any paint rub.
I have tried so many different processes but this works best for me while never losing any articulation and still achieve all of the maximum poses that you acquire with no worries. I have even learned to use acetone nail polish remover as a paint strip. End results are nice.

Thanks for the tips (and the kind words)! I’ve used the nail polish remover before, and I usually try to wash figures first so the paint sticks, but I’ve never sanded anything down.

Anything I paint too much just ends up looking like...well, like I painted it. Here’s Conan custom I made to go with Sonja using an ultimate Thor head, Hercules torso, and thor 2-pack legs. I ended up painting a lot to get the skin tones to match. I like it, but if somebody walks by my action figure shelf, they could easily pick out the custom.

Appreciate it, GeoMojo!

The filecards further reimagine Marvel characters as military specialists in a war between SHIELD and Hydra with mercenaries & other organizations inbetween.

Paint thickness is important. You should try to give first a coat with a very "dry" paint. Pencil should be dry. You don't have to cover everything, the primary thing is to apply it as thin as possible. This will act as a primer. Not all paints allow this since some are quite liquid. If they are too liquid they can chip also more easily specially if you don't prep the parts.

I also use a similar technique.
1. Remove all paint applications with acetone. Not nail polisher because it takes more time and doesn't remove all. Industrial acetone works best but can burn plastic. Just ensure you don't rub it too strong.
2. Sand parts, first with low grit say 400 or 600 and later with a higher one to get ride of heavy scratches. Specially focus on parts that will rub each other. Try to make room for the paint apps.
3. Clean all parts with denatured alcohol. This alcohol can also be used as a thinner for acrylic paints. It's strong stuff but doesn't arms plastic that much. The washing with dish soap is also a good one. I use this because it dries quickly and I don't have a sink where I do my works.
4. Apply a quick almost dry brush paint layer. Make sure you cover everything but don't worry about pencil marks or shadows. Important is that it's really thin.
5. Give a second layer with a more liquid paint this time. Again don't use too much paint.
3. Give third layer, you can go a bit more heavy on the paint this time.
4. Let it dry well, specially in winter. You can also use a hair dryer to speed the process. Actually doing so will also help the paint to bound to certain plastics. If you don't let it dry well you may have problems later because after applying varnish, the paint underneath will never dry totally since it's sealed underneath leading to paint chips
5. Finish with a varnish, thin layers specially first time.

PSA: For those just collecting, start checking your figs that have metallic red paint. The factory color is beginning to fade and it looks really terrible. I've re-painted the factory red on 5 figures, the latest being Adam Warlock who just got his first coat. This will mostly effect Iron Man figures and Warlock. All the rest with metallic paints seem ok so far.

You can give a light coat (or two - but stick with one unless you know you won't gum up the joints) of Tamiya clear red X-27 item 81527. Get the 10ml size unless you have a need to use it a lot like me. Tamiya also has a rainbow of clear coat colors.

Is anyone else biting on the Space Force Kickstarter? Obama was on Marvel covers so this is tangentially related ;-).

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...action-figures

I’m hoping they find a way to get that President head pack out somehow.

Hasn't come in yet but I ordered a Barack head from Glassman. Outside of him could use the general and suited figs from the Kickstarter, but I'm not holding my breath on actually getting them. So no.

Finally have a plan and set end point to this project. Here's a pic from the doorway of one wall of the room that I keep these in. I'm going to make 2 more six shelf shelves and shift all the cosmic onto the 5 shelf here that the heroes are currently on. Once the other two shelves are made I'll work on filling them in and knocking off the remainder of my character list and I can call it for his particular hobby. I have about 230 (give or take) characters on my list to still make.

Just to give an idea of the scope of where this project has evolved to so far, the villains shelf has 145 figures on it at present. Of them 44 figures remain the same as they left the factory. I could easily fit 30 more figs, 50 if I really cram them in.

More pics to follow...
