This is just speculation, but it's possible that the licensing rights for Marvel movie characters involve the rights to both the movie rights and the character rights (as in, for example, the rights to the character of Wolverine overall, not just Wolverine as he appears in those movies), which Marvel still owns. Again, just speculation, but if it were true, it would make sense why Marvel would be able to potentially keep Fox from making merch (if that's even the situation that's happening).

If that really is what's happening, that's pretty lousy of Marvel.

Around the time the Avengers came out, I read an interview with someone from Hasbro who said that they were losing a lot of money on the movie lines. It's why the figures became super cheap for the first few phase 2 movies until they stopped making dedicated movie lines altogether. Hasbro has even said they were suprised with how well the first GOTG Legends wave performed. So if you were considering figures for the Marvel Legends line, would you want to make several figures who all worn matching black leather costumes or regular clothes?

That makes sense from a business perspective, but as others mentioned, it's a far broader reaching pattern than that. Even for the really popular X-Men movies there's pretty much nothing from any company, and even the characters with very "toyetic" costumes like Deadpool got virtually nothing. I think the only movie merchandise for that was the Hot Toys figure. Of course I wouldn't really expect Hasbro to make toys for an R-rated movie but still, it seems to be bigger than just worrying that the X-Men's designs might not make for good Legends. Plus having a boring costume didn't stop them from making Mordo recently.

Just saying, the black leather hasn't been used in 2006. Recently in Apocalypse, we got comic book accurate costumes at the end.

Also, Wolverine wore a suit with blue and yellow on the arms in Days of Future Past. And Magneto has his own suit as well. First Class they were blue and yellow.

Yeah, at the VERY end of the movie. For the rest of it (what they would have made merch of), it was very generic, boring armor, just a new iteration of the same "all wearing the same black leather outfit" problem. Also, the blue and yellow on the arms of DofP Wolverine's suit was toned down to the point of being barely noticeable.

They could have easily made merch of the ending suits.

Really? Well, the Hot Toys weren't afraid to make a figure of that suit, and the blue and yellow is very vibrant.

Convenient how you didn't respond to me pointing out that First Class suits were blue and yellow.

Or Magneto's suit. And what about Mystique? She's naked and blue.

Well Mystique DID have strategically placed scales.

Now that you mention it, I do remember that interview. From memory, I believe he mentioned wanting to make Bonebreaker by name, too. I'm assuming that he'd have to be BAF, if they ever went that route.

Decisions about movie toys don't happen in a bubble. Companies look at the performance and the general attitude of fans towards to previous movies when making decisions about toy lines for upcoming movies. The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine are generally disliked by a lot of fans. And while I enjoyed First Class and most of The Wolverine, the overall reception for both of those movies was "meh". By the time Days of Future Past came along, most people weren't expecting a movie that would wow people. And X-Men: Apocalypse continued the trend of X-Men movies that didn't live up to expectations. Why would a company want to produce toys for a new movie when fans have disliked most of the previous movies? Why would a company want to produce toys for a new movie when fans have disliked the toy lines for the previous movies? DST did Minimates for most of these X-Men movies. And I guarantee that someone from Hasbro, at some point, walked into a Toys R Us and saw pegs full of X-Men movie Minimates that weren't selling and thought "Man we dodged a bullet by not producing figures for that movie."

The same could be said of the future X-Men costumes from DOFP. And the 70s X-Men didn't even have costumes.

Shame all sides couldn't get together to give Hugh just one one more run in action figure form, as had it not been for him and his success with X-Men, comic book movies wouldn't have evolved into the juggernauts they have been since.

Howlett? Is that "Lucky" Jim Howlett?

Ain't nobody called me "Lucky" in a long time!!!

What's it to you bub!?!

Just nice seeing a familiar face around here, soldier...

Man I loved that Wolverine back in the day. Had tons of fun with it right up until his leg broke of at the hip. I was so bummed when it happened.

They could have, but that's not what they appeared in for most of the movie and in all the marketing, so they probably wouldn't have except for maaaybe Hot Toys. Companies don't often do multiple toys of a character from one movie in multiple outfits unless they were the singular main character.

Hot Toys figures' outfits often have at least slightly brighter colors than they do in the movie, often due to the lighting and color grading in the movie. Same thing happened to AoU Cap. Wolverine's arms may have been colored blue and yellow, but you'd be hard pressed to see that in the movie itself.

You're right, I didn't comment on the suits from First Class, because you were actually right about those. No need to "correct" you one something you're not wrong about.

Actually that isn't true. First Class was very well received, people were took by surprise by how good it was. Everyone was expecting it to be shit from the trailers. After its' positive reception, that's where the massive hype for DOFP came from.

They didn't have costumes in the 70's because the X-Men were dissolved during that time. It was just Charles and Hank in the dilapidated house, most of the old students had been killed or drafted for Vietnam.

But...again....Magneto had a costume which was pretty nice looking.

They did a nice Mary Jane too. It wasn't very articulated, but it looked really nice.

The TB Phoenix was pretty decent. And I thought the Spider-women figures were decent too. I do agree though most of TB's female figures were awful. Still, better than nothing.

Nonsense. Minimates don't sell because there's always only one or two packs of them that anyone would buy and TRU gets stuck with the over-ordered remains of the cases.

Hasbro on the other hand would have a Wolverine toy line in production by tomorrow if Marvel gave them the green light. The Wolverine toy line from Origins did very well for them because toys like that can sell based on the character alone despite the reception of the current movie, a lot like Spider-Man toys always sold despite Spider-Man 3 and the Amazing Spider-Man movies being so disliked.

So anyways i decided to go to my local TRU. It's been awhile since i last went, and as i walked in today. Hoping to see at least either of the Guardians wave or hopefully the new X wave. I was greeted by close to empty pegs of legends.

I saw a few of the strange wave, a few of the peg warmers of the previous X wave, a couple or female beetles, and a few of the previous Cap wave....

Needless to say once again, i'm very disappointed with TRU. I guess some stores don't care about their displays and or what they are currently stocking on the shelves.
