Thanks.
I collect because I get a thrill at buying things. it makes me happy. Also I have to have something to look forward to. Granted I could do that with some other collectible but I've been into the X-Men for 30 years this year, and the Avengers nearly 20 (got into them over Heroes Return and then bought back issues of the first run.) SO I've got a huge invested interest in Marvel properties as well. Also at some point I'm going to actually play with them. Yeah, I said it. I don't care LOL. I will sit by 40-something butt down and get out my figures and make up storylines to my hearts content...whenever I have the time which I haven't had yet. I am just a big kid at heart.

As far as collecting them for value, no. No interest there. What I buy I buy for me and have no intention of parting with it as long as I'm here. And after I'm gone....they're gonna have to bury or burn it with me. Nah, just kidding I will will it to someone who has kids that would enjoy it.

Way back when the line was first relaunched, Hasbro admitted they like to time waves to coincide with movies, and I think the fact that Marvel is now doing three films a year is gonna eat up a lot of the schedule. You have a set number of waves per year and in 2018 you're gonna have to have one for Ant-Man & The Wasp (with an MCU Wasp figure for sure), one for Black Panther, and probably at least two (just going off past trends for Age of Ultron and Civil War) for Avengers: Infinity War. We are probably also getting a second Defenders wave to finish off the Netflix characters they've yet to do (Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and maybe a wildcard like Kingpin or Colleen Wing). I wouldn't count out an Inhumans wave too since they have a show coming out. They also admitted they like having mainstay franchises that can be counted on to sell like Spider-Man, so we're guaranteed a new Spidey wave as well (maybe with Cloak and Dagger since they're getting a TV show).

When you look at all that I can see why the X-Men wouldn't get multiple waves.

I think the one year per X-wave is their plan. But if the sales warrant more they will eventually change that plan (especially with MCU somewhat winding down as of 2019, I mean I don't think phase 4 is going to be as big as the first 3 phases..). The fact they mostly ignored X-characters from 2012-2015, except for two exclusive waves, a few figures included in exclusive packs, the Archangel, Fantomex and Jean Grey...they have a gold mine of figures they can trove. Between redos and brand new never done figures I can think of at minimum 4 more solid waves...and that's without getting too much into the "never heard of that charcter" realm...at least for X-Fans. I'm sure newer marvel fans who have never followed X-Men before are already to that point..but they just don't know what goodness they're missing.

Edit: Cloak and Dagger are getting a show? Very cool. They are both on my "short list" of characters I want. I'd prefer comic version but I would get a TV version of both of them if that's the only option.

Is what true? That Walmart is the biggest retailer in the country? Yes.

Keeping your retailers happy since they now have a potentially in-demand toy you have to go through them to buy. Doubly so if it's a figure that may not have huge mainstream recognition but Hasbro knows collectors will trip over themselves trying to find.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. I think Ibuki would be a good compliment/rival for Ms. Marvel if she's in it.

I wonder if we'll get a Legends scale Ryu. I'd be interested to see what Hasbro would do with Capcom properties.

this is one of those questions that make you cringe. every true collector buys figs for diff reasons but IF they are buying just for the worth then they are not true collectors, they are scalpers. are you new to collecting?

I collect for nostalgia and nostalgia makes me happy. and because the characters are interesting and kool. its a hobbie, just like people collect other things as well that are not in the comic book world.

Yep, on Freeform (formerly ABC Family). They just announced that they're also doing a 'New Warriors' live-action comedy series slated for 2018 on the same channel.

Oooh, that could be fun. Or maybe Sakura, given the matching themes of hero admiration and being a next-generation fighter.

Ohhh-ho-ho-ho-ho. Be careful with phrases like 'true collector', man. It falls into the 'No True Scotsman' fallacy. Aside from actual, legitimate scalpers (the people who intentionally buy up stock to force a perceived 'shortage,' and then use that shortage to create a market for them to profit off of), people can collect for whatever reason they want and still be a 'true collector' in their own right. Even if I agree that collecting for the possibility of increased value is a crapshoot that's not worth the effort, if someone wants to collect for that reason, best be to 'em - I won't stop them. As long as they're not raining on my parade, I won't rain on theirs.

If the line is real...you know they will...(much to my chagrin...) Hopefully there will be other characters though than the SF poster boy...I'd kill for anything Darkstalkers related or a Strider Hiryu.

I miss those old Capcom All-stars figures from Toybiz. I still have Donovan, BB Hood, Talbain, and Lilith. Used to have the Resident Evil ones as well.

Not exactly, because someone buying a figure for worth is not the same as a scalper. Scalpers (at least in the world of figure collecting) don't buy one figure and sit on it until it's worth something, they intentionally create a 'shortage' of a figure in order to sell said figure at an artificially inflated price. It's the difference between someone buying a Spider-Man and leaving it in the package until the day it accrues some sort of value, and someone buying all the Spider-Man figures in an area just to sell them back at double the price to people who would've bought them at normal retail.

Either way, the one who buys and thinks it might be worth more down the line is no less of a 'true collector' than anyone else - they just have different motivations. Just like mint-in-package collectors are just as valid as loose collectors. It's only when they're buying to benefit themselves at the cost of others that it's worth deriding.

I never snagged the Darkstalkers, though I do currently have a Toy Biz MvC Morrigan I'm trying to sell off I did have a bunch of the Resident Evil figures for a while - pretty much all of them, except for Mr. X and the Hunk/Zombie two-pack. I love how they advertised them all as having 'authentic video game actions,' which was true - all four of the main heroes had clunky, slow-moving and inaccurate aiming gimmicks, just like in the games!

We got to see a few prototypes for SOTAs Darkstalkers line around the same time we saw the Dee Jay they never released. I'd have been all in on them too...

Eh, they just think it looks pretty in the package. I have a friend who keeps some things in-package, hanging on the wall, and the rest is all loose. As far as I can tell, to him it displays better in the package than in any pose he could put it in on the shelf. My wife and I have kept a few toys in their packages (as in, we do take them out and pose them on the shelf, but when they rotate off the display, they go back in their box) due to the packages just looking really friggin' cool (for instance, the SDCC 'Rust In Pieces' TF Prime Cliffjumper, or any MP Transformer we get). Not mint, not sealed, but hey, they got an awesome box.

Talk about holy grails... I remember both SOTA and High Dreams (they were making the Capcom vs SNK 2 line) showed off some fantastic items that, ultimately, got cancelled. As a fighting game fan, it was a painful reality.

You take that back - the dialogue (and that awful opening/ending footage) were part of the charm! Who can forget such gems as "Master of Unlocking," "Jill Sandwich," and "STOP! Don't OPEN that DOOR!"

My most recent shots of my SF shelves (bad quality photos but you'll get the idea):

I'll keep an eye on the new MvC - but I didn't really enjoy the last one. I got on much better with the classic SF style gameplay/controls we had in the first two so I was disappointed, tbh. New, ML-scale MvC figs though - that's very interesting. Do we know anything yet or is it just rumors?

Wow you guys said a lot in answering my question. It is cool that all of you think that way and like action figures so much. This is a cool place to talk with people that like the same things.
Hopefully before too long I will make a purchase of one and share some of the things I like. I have to figure out what I really like first.

I like Spiderman, but I think everybody does.

It's interesting to me how much I love SF..and love these figs..but have almost ZERO interest in some of the alternate colors. Though a few of them are TIGHT: Akuma in Red, All black skin (steel?) Zangief, Adon in red, Balrog in red...wait..maybe i just like characters in red..heh

*edit*..I don't see Cammy with the Uzis and Rollerblades..
*double-edit* scratch that..i see her.

Thanks! I've not really shared many pics of any my collection before so cool to know someone enjoyed having a look. There are a lot more MLs on an adjacent wall - but again, my photos aren't great. I guess I could make a thread in the collections area sometime.

As for SF, I was fortunate to get enough of them at retail - or at least close enough to release that the prices hadn't gained too much. I think the most I paid for a figure was the yellow Gouken at about £60 - but he was ££ to begin with due to exclusivity. I remember 6 months where the only one on ebay was BIN for £120 or something ridiculous like that.

I missed out on 3x Gouken (battle cry, final battle, spirit of), Gen (black JP exclusive), Blanka (glowie) and the Revolutions Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma. Oh, and the entire translucent wave 3 - but they were never sold - just gifted. I don't feel the need to track down the last few, but I'd probably pick them up if I ever stumbled upon one at a reasonable price. Only Dee Jay needed...

Agreed on the red ones, some of my favs too. Akuma, Balrog, Vega, Ibuki... I enjoy the rainbow of outfit options so much, I sometimes have the collection grouped by colour (older, worse pics - 2 houses and 3 years ago):

I think I'll have a go at customising a Dee Jay at some point - then realise I'm not nearly good enough and have to commission someone better to do me a P1/P2 matching pair. I think I could die happy then. Well, happier anyway.
