About the Venom movie...what Triv shared does not portend well, but Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock was a very smart casting. Has Hardy done even one bad movie?

The Dark Knight Rises stunk. I still think he is a good cast for Eddie, but as far as past credentials, I toss all that out of the window, because each film is different. Kevin Spacey made very few bad films and was perfect for Lex Luthor but even he could not save Superman Returns...and Fantastic Four had like half of the stronger cast of House of Cards in the film, and that film was a train wreck.

I thought it was good, and Hardy sold it s a guy who's been on his own in the wasteland too long, but visually I don't think he was a good choice for the role. Doesn't really follow Mel Gibson well.

Went ahead and ordered Vol.2 Gamora from Amazon. I have a feeling it'll be awhile before I find this wave at retail. Also added a Valkyrie to the order, and I'm really hoping her hands are compatible with MJ.

They are a bit oversized due to the larger body mold. Same with Thundra.

@Nite

Hardy's Bane was one of the more interesting performances for me in DKR. His voice still makes me laugh when I hear it, but not in a bad way. It was appropriately psychotic. I like Fury Road for all of the atmosphere and personality surrounding Hardy and Theron. Hardy didn't have many lines, in the way of fairness to him, and following in Gibson's footsteps (particularly, from Mad Max) was going to be tough for anyone. Hardy is creeping up there as one of my favorite male leads...

@Triv

I guess I should have asked: has Hardy had even one bad performance? I take your point about Spacey, another actor who's performances I enjoy. However, at least I liked Hardy's Bane. I can't say the same for Spacey's Luthor. I never expect much from these super-movies, they've long since lost their luster for me. While I agree with what Bearjew said about storytelling, that's more the symptom than the disease. The stories are there...provided that directors can get out of the way and stop trying to reinterpret already solid concepts adding their own limited sensibilities/experiences as spin. The real problem, IMO, is that Hollywood is so bereft of ideas that it took about five minutes for them to collectively snuff out the fount of creative energy that is comics. I'm a lifelong comic fan who is tired of comic movies. WTF? I shouldn't be surprised, Hollywood does this with nearly everything it clumsily stumbles onto. What bothers me most is that comics are now reading like cinematic efforts. A reverse rot is now occurring. Movie execs find new ways to make shitty otherwise excellent source material. Add to that malaise the fact that the very source material itself is taking on shitty qualities of the theatrical effort. Soon, there will be nothing worthwhile left.

Hey, thanks for responding. Which are oversized, the hands or the pegs? Or both?

I think I can make due with larger hands, but I'll have to mod the pegs if they don't fit.

He sound like he was talking into a muffled soupcan while speaking through a drive up fast food microphone. Plus he was puny....bane is a freaking monster. Plus hes not really the thinking type like tdkr bane was. They shoulda just made talia the outright villian, not had jgl ( who i utterly cannot stand in anything ) in it and dressed up brock lesnar in a black and white mask black outfit and given him his hulk out syrum.. I liked the first two but i dispise tdkr

On a better note Can't wait to see brolin as cable. I woulda cast stephen lang but i can dfinitely see brolin as cable.

All film is subjective. With that being said, in my opinion, The Dark Knight Rises is not a "bad movie". Is it the weakest in The Dark Knight Trilogy? Indeed, but no way do I think it's a bad film. I guess I was one of the few people who could understand Bane, and much like everyone else from the Trilogy, put a different take on their character to reflect the stories being told.

Also, I am looking forward to seeing how they design Venom and Carnage. Given Marvel's relationship with Sony before their partnership, I would expect to see Marvel Legends based on these two. And given the fact the film will exist inside the same universe as the MCU. I'd expect it to be as vague as the Netflix series, but anything is possible.

With everyone waiting for the latest wave to hit there area, does anyone know of any ML that will be shown at the SDCC...I have read and seen pictures on the SDCC Thor set and I'm sure Hasbro will be showing the Netflix set...But does anyone know of any rumored figures, I guess...I totally in amazement with the Borr and Thor(JF) from the SDCC set...The more
I read up on these two figures from the set, I have become more impressed with Hasbro's likeness of them to the comic books...Go Joe, sorry, I mean Go Hasbro!

My guess for newly officially revealed figures will be:

the Full Thor Ragnarok wave and a part/all of a second if there is one.

the Full Defenders wave, which we've seen through other outlets but not at a Con.

Partial for the rumored Black Panther, Spider-Man, Avengers wave 1, and Deadpool wave. These would come out through the spring of next year.

Maybe a teaser for a second Avengers wave and a teaser for an X-Men wave if there is one separate from Deadpool (I pray there is.) This will take the form of pictures not sculpts most likely, and would not be ready until next summer. And by teaser I mean one maybe two characters at very most.

Sure he's puny in comparison to what Bane is supposed to be, but I still think he pulled it off. And, of course, I would be more than ok with Brock being Bane. He already is Bane to a certain degree. I agree that Brolin will likely be a decent cable.

@Panther

FYI: I also found DKR enjoyable. You are right that subjective taste carries at the end of the day and I don't "hate" super movies. How could I as a comic fan? I just don't go in with high expectations and I definitely don't do the hype. My real gripe is with the formulaic nature of this cash cow and how it's having a ripple effect on comics. Too often capitulating to expediency and opting for cookie-cutter methods. I really hope they take their time with Black Panther. He is an important hero to me also.

I really think we will get an X-force wave to include another Deadpool (since the first did so well) and another Cable (due to promotion of his upcoming entrance into the Deapool movie) along with some others. Technically they already have a Deadpool mold all they will need is repaints and some different accessories. They also have a base for a new cable just add other accessories or parts.

Personally I enjoyed DKR myself and I liked the character of bane. He was "new" a subjective spin on a character and that is always nice as long as you don't end up with something like the bane in Batman Forever just a dumb body. I thought it was a good spin. I think super hero movies can be good, they don't have to be bad. I even thought Logan was good. It is just that most of the super hero movies have been bad lately.

I agree. I actually have a friend who thinks every film he goes to see will be bad just to keep his expectations low. Once he walks out of the theatre, his emotions are in check and he doesn't get as stressed or bent out of shape as others. Honestly, I laugh hysterically every time we talk about it or I think about it, but it works for him.

I also agree with what you said about Black Panther, and from what I've heard they are treating this character with great care.

Black Panther has never been a favorite of mine not because of his character but just because of my limited accessibility to comics in general growing up. I never got a broad spectrum of characters. From what I have learned of it though it has a lot of potential and I really hope they successfully make a great movie out of the character. The trailers look really good and it gives me hope that they may have succeeded with the character and story line. I have my fingers crossed.

You are right on the money about Bane. He is far more than a dumb body. Intellectually he is one of Batman's smartest villains. Even without venom his is in peak physical condition. When he was in prison he trained his body with over a thousand pushups, pull ups, and crunches a day. He would read constantly, and became an all out determined foe.

My apologies to everyone for getting off the topic of Marvel Legends. Please accept my apology.

My Marvel Unlimited Plus renewal came in today. Grey, blue and white Captain Marvel repaint. Too bad I missed out on the matching Rocket when they decided to short him and go back to the gold Ultron before mine came due that year. It would have been cool to have them in a sort of matching uniform setup.

My Pete/MJ order came in as well. Damn they did a NICE job with MJ! Although like everyone else I think the fist is an odd choice. This may be my umpteenth Spidey but they did a great job on the Pete face as well. Thankfully no odd eyes on either of mine. I wonder if Hasbro has considered selling different heads that could be used with this body. They could leverage their site to sell things like that which collectors would buy but that might not succeed at retail. Provided of course they could do so cost effectively. It just seems like a missed opportunity. Then again, I have been preaching the Army Builder Box idea forever too.

Besides...I'm a sucker for just about anything Paul Verhoeven. Man can't do no wrong in my eyes.

Christopher Nolan though...outside TDK, highly overrated. Nearly all of his movies have elicited those feelings out of me. Peter Jackson as well.
