Been away most of the weekend, dealing with some stuff, but I saw Thor. It was very fun and I really enjoyed it. A few parts had me cheering.
I'd also agree, Winter Solider is my personal favorite MCU movie thus far.

Killing off characters is tricky because how do they do it without it feeling like some cheap gimmick? Nebula dying would make sense, but killing off the other three would make it seem forced. I can see Thor losing an arm, but not dying.

Even in the original Infinity War story they killed off all of these characters and then brought them back to life as if they never died at all. That was also cheap and showed they were only killed for shock value.

I don’t think their steam will slow down, however, I do not think they will be producing 3 moves a year after 2019. Marvel Studios can take a step back and still be successful. They produce such great films. I keep telling people whether it’s Marvel Studios, Fox, Sony, or Warner Bros, as long as they are putting out quality films that make money we will continue to see these films produced. If everything turns to trash, then we have a big problem. And that’s not just with comic book films, that’s any film or genre.

They've got three set for 2020. GOTG 3 confirmed, likely the May release. My guess is either Dr. Strange or Black Panther 2 for the mid summer release, and New Avengers for November release.

Iron Man I could see dying if only because RDJ has an insane salary and we're gonna reach a breaking point where Disney doesn't want to keep paying him 1/3rd of their movie budget just to show up as Tony Stark.

In fact some of the stuff that happened in Civil War leads me to think he might sacrifice himself at the end of this whole Thanos mess.

BTW the Gwen Stacy and Romita Spider-Man figures got debunked. It's about 4:30 in here.

By the way the movie made me really wish we'd gotten a second Ragnarok wave. Something like:

Classic Thor (Comic)
Classic Loki (Comic)
Heimdall (MCU)
Skurge (MCU)
Balder
Sif (MCU)
Kurse

BAF: Korg (MCU)

Kirsten taunting Matt

Foggy finding out he has cancer

Both of these are from Mark Waid's run (different artists obviously). You need some back and forth between fun and grit, otherwise it's just depressing.

And that sequence of panels with some slut teasing Matt are supposed to be humorous? Don't kids read Marvel comics or is it only adults? As a kid growing up reading Marvel/DC comics, I read them for the superhero vs villain battles, not for sluts lifting up their blouse to a blind man at the office. Last time I checked, that's sexual harassment but I guess it's OK if it's the female doing the harassing, flip it around and the guy is a POS perv & needs to be fired/arrested. You call that good writing? You must not ask for much. I got into comics to escape the problems of the real world for a few hrs as I escaped into my stack of comics on a Saturday afternoon, not to read about the very same real world problems I'm trying to get away from. If I wanna see a chicks tatas, I can just check out a porn mag, don't need to see it in the pages of a Marvel comic. Marvel used to write comics that were just simple 1 comic story arcs or at most a 2-3 parter. Back in the good ol days of Avengers being drawn by Perez & X-men by Byrne, You could see the Avengers throwing down with Ultron for couple of issues followed by a 3 parter of them going against a powered up Nefaria, X-men fighting Sentinels for a couple of issues & then the Hellfire club followed by a throwdown with the IG. Now they stretch out a storyline for an entire yr or more. Marvel is adapting the MCU into their storylines and changing the costumes to match the movies. I didn't want that shit. Keep the comics separated from the movies. Ironman is now a totally different animal from his carrying his armor in a suitcase days to a person who has organic armor within his body, wtf! He looks like the DC modern version of Blue Beetle with his ability now to morph his armor into wings and arms into photon cannons, WTF, is he a transformer now? Hasbro has become so fixtated with just the movie armors that have become redundant with just little variations in color or design. The original Toybiz ML wave 1 classic yellow/red armor is in serious need of a re-do. They did a better version in that 2 pack with Maria Hill but it is skinny & too small. A classic War Machine like the cool 4' version in the MU line would be greatly appreciated. All the recent Thors are either movie versions or BS Giant sized modern comcic versions that are outta scale with all the other ML figs. Thor's 6'6 not 7'6! A classic Thor re-do is long way overdue. They have the buck for a new classic Thor in the buck used for that crap unworthy Thor. Classic Hercules is another character that need's a re-do. I would want both his classic 1st app version and the 80s H-harness version that came out so awesome in the MU 4' scale, just make that one in 6.5 scale and I'd be a happy camper. All these countless MCU IMs, Thors, Starlords, Hulks, Spidermans, but not one slot available for a classic Hercules, Vision, IM, Thor, Perez Beast, 1st/2app Wonderman, Quicksilver , Falcon, Swordsman, Yellowjacket? I know I'm not alone in wanting a classic Avengers lineup from the 70s/80s.

I know a couple people have mentioned that they prefer the two-pack version of Ragnarok Thor to the standard wave release, so are any of those people looking to unload their Valkyrie figure for a decent price? Lemme know!

I can see his point, but I thought that was also a major part of the story to have Cap thrown into this espionage heavy film, only for him along with the audience to grown more frustrated with SHIELD, Hydra, and all of the secrecy and super weapons and brainwashed best friend hitmen. To me Cap in the end going to the museum to put back on his original WW2 costume spoke volumes about his character and how his values do not have to be put aside to do what's right in the 21st Century.

Actually, as far as straight up espionage films go, I still hope to see an actual Black Widow movie someday. The lack of one so far has been a huge misstep for the MCU.

The balance of humor was more good than bad, and the jokes were more hit than miss. And there were some misses, just like in GOTG2 and Homecoming, and in this movie especially for people who don't care for out of place slapstick or Jeff Goldblum's "smart humor" (I love the actor but some people think everything he says is automatically funny and laugh at his jokes when they aren't even actually being told).

But I think with humor it helps to keep the movies light-hearted, especially given without the humor we'd have too much drama. Happens in the comics, too. The Hulk is the Jekyll and Hyde monster story turned up to 11, and if you don't joke around with the Hulk you spend way too much time focusing on Bruce Banner living an endless nightmare of being trapped as a rampaging monster being hunted by the military or worse. Even a bleak movie like Logan had some good humor, too, but as long as it doesn't overtake all of the drama it's good to have it in each movie.

Also no fights between DC and Marvel, or Fox Marvel and Marvel Studios Marvel, everyone does their own thing that works for them. The MCU has just found that they like strong humor in their movies.

Anyway, Black Panther won't be nearly as many jokes, and I'm pretty sure the laughing will die down quite a bit even more once Thanos reaches Earth in the next movie.

Frankly, I find the whole "superhero fatigue" card to be bullshit. I don't see people saying they are sick of the number of dramas that come out every year or people are feeling fatigue over romantic comedies, so why should it matter how many super hero films come out a year?

The world has changed and people don't want one dimensional super heroes anymore. Hell, that is the whole reason Marvel became the top selling comic company in the 60s as everyone else was producing generic stories about super heroes that fought villains and had no personal troubles at all. Marvel, on the other hand, made their actual lives just as important as their super hero identities. They were more than just heroes, they were people.

That has evolved today where people not only want that, but they also want deeper stories. Hence why Manga is far more popular these days than super heroes because they are story and character driven series that will go on for many volumes.

On one hand, I welcome it and think that is better than we we used to have. On the other, I just wish they didn't do it with every single series as not every story needs to be multiple arcs long and stuff. Sometimes you just want to grab a single issue, read it, and enjoy it without having to have read the previous 200 issues.

Want to take a chance, but I fear the face paint on Ego.

Also speaking of toys, Walgreens had Medusa today, so it's hit the Kansas City/Midwest area.

And for an oddity, I saw 5 Below stores have seemingly gotten solid cases of Red Guardian from the Giant Man wave and can be had for $5. Not sure anyone is looking for him, but the price is right and he might make good custom fodder.

Medusa has probably been the easiest exclusive to find yet.

Every Walgreens in my immediate area seems to at least have two or three of her.

Ha, my 5 Blow had 23 Eels (from the abomb BAf) on the pegs, and that was it.

No kidding. I like when a story compels me to pick up a book I normally don't follow closely (IE: Mojo Worldwide, for making me wanna pick up XMBlue, or the whole 'Newer Mutants' thing in Cable hitting me in the Blink/Exiles fan breadbox), but I do miss the days of stories being pretty self-contained and accessible without reading X number of issues of Y title.

Hell, it's part of the reason Gwenpool, Ms. Marvel, and New Avengers/USAvengers are nice reads these days, they stay mostly self-contained.

Haven't seen her in SoCal yet, but at this rate, I'm expecting her to pop up at any time...

One of the best figures of last year, in abundance and at a steal of a price? Hook up the board, son!

I'd love to run into Eel, the Abomination Wave never really hit stores around here. Only ever picked up Scarlet Witch from Walmart.com and Captain Britain because he was $9 on Amazon. But I'd buy an Eel for $5 without a second thought.

I wonder who else is showing up at 5 Belows? Or what might show up at TJ Maxx and Ross, it's that time of year again when they load up on toys.

Just pointing out that with guys like Claremont around writing comics for 20+ years, a woman flashing her bra to Matt Murdock in a modern comic ain't nothing special.

And at 13, I didn't know that & thought that was just a supervillain costume & that's an entire different animal from showing a female character raising her blouse/shirt to expose her bra cladded breasts to a male character. Didn't see none of that in late 70s/80s comics. Was way too young for 60s comics but I'm sure there was no sexual situations in a Stan Lee/Jack Kirby comic.

I guess I must be the only one that doesn't care to see real world situations in my superhero comics. Too ol school I guess.

Sorry in advance for this being so long. I rarely get the chance to talk about Marvel movies with anyone I know these days so I'm taking this opportunity.

You're right about the deaths being cheap from a story point of view. And I did pick Nebula because her death would make sense in the story. And if Thanos is the big bad that they say, then you're going to lose more than one person. The characters from Phases 2 and 3 have upcoming films so you know they are safe. That means some of the Phase 1 heroes are on the chopping block. Choosing Hawkeye, Thor, and Iron Man makes sense from a business perspective. Thor and Iron Man have tied up their trilogies while nothing was ever really done with Hawkeye outside of AOU. Not to mention Jeremey Renner broke both of his wrists filming Infinity War and RDJ hurt his ankle filming IM3. Both of them are over 40 so risk of injury is a serious consideration when signing up for more movies. Things hurt more, you don't heal as well, and it gets harder to work through the pain as you get older. Kevin Feige has also said that Iron Man won't be mentoring Peter in the next Spiderman movie.

Thor is a bit trickier. First of all, I think Mjolnir will be repaired by Dr. Strange. In the comics, Strange helped Thor repair the hammer after Thor broke it killing Bor. And as you see in Ragnarok, the enchantment is still on the hammer. So Thor will continue in some form. BUT.... will it continue with Chris Hemsworth? While Ragnarok has been met with positive reviews and good box office performance, the other two Thor movies are know as the weakest of the MCU. Does Disney or Marvel have enough faith in the current trajectory of the character to keep it going or would it be better for them to take things in a new direction like Beta Ray Bill? I don't know but it is something to consider.

And like I said in my other post, Captain America is a wild card. Chris Evan's contract is up with the two Infinity War movies and Sebastian Stan was signed for multiple movies while Bucky was still Captain America in the comics. Marvel never gave us a firm "Yes" but I believe the intention was for Bucky to become Captain America at some point in the movies. But Chris Evans is still young and the CA movies are very successful. Not to mention he would make a great mentor to Peter in the next Spiderman movie.

True, but Chris Evans has also stated that he wants to move away from acting for a while, IIRC, if not entirely.

...maybe in lieu of Thor, we can see Thunderstrike show up? If so, I nominate Charlie Hunnam.
