Glad that Sony is not just revealing everything at the moment, but there was also no payoff to that trailer as well. It would have at least been nice to have gotten a tease akin to what we received with the Spider-Man 3 trailers, where we saw Venom without actually seeing Venom. It is possible to at least reveal your main character without giving away plot points.

Wow, they're really just banking on the name Venom to sell this movie, aren't they? Because that trailer was the most generic, uninspiring alien-esque movie trailer I have seen in a while. Even the trailer to Alien Convenant at least tried to cover up its shittiness with something that looked unique.

Also, how does Venom already happen when Peter has hardly been Spider-Man? Unless he acquires the symbiote during Infinity War Part 1 and brings it back to Earth by the end of the movie, I just don't see how this works.

BTW, I finally figured out what doesn't look right to me on Paladin. They colored swapped him for some reason. WHat's black on the figure is supposed to be purple and what's purple on the figure is supposed to be black.

They have done Venom's origin without Spidey before in the Ultimate comics, where the Symbiote was actually a cancer treatment that was created by Peter and Eddie's fathers, who worked together on the project. Unfortunately though, while the symbiote did cure cancer, it also made the subject prone to violence and psychosis, so they tried to shut the project down, and were eventually killed through corporate espionage when the company they were working for tried to claim it for their own. The last samples of it ended up in the hands of Curt Conners, who in turn gave it to young Eddie when he was of age. It was at that point Eddie reached out to Peter, and gave him the back story behind it.

The rumors are that Tom Holland's appearance in the film (if those turn out to be true) is because of Eddie doing some sort of investigative work which leads him back to Peter Parker in some way. It's all a crap shoot at this point because Sony is being super secretive, but the point being that the MCU has combined and changed many character origins in their films by using elements from the ultimate and 616 universes. They can do a Venom origin without Spidey if they follow the Ultimate Universe's origins. I just hope that they don't keep Spidey out of it altogether (as per the original rumors) as that idea absolutely disgusts me, and kills whatever faith I have left in the project.

They could end up not keeping the spider on the chest. There's no indication yet that they are going to, as the fixation around all of the promo art has been mostly around the eyes and teeth. Ultimate Venom appeared in the comics both wearing and not wearing the spider symbol, and he did not use webbing either, opting for it's symbiote essence instead. It also would do this when web swinging, as tendrils would lash out instinctively to attach to things to keep its body moving, similar to the way Carnage does.
