However, if you just mean a general peak, as in where the quality is and how much money it makes, then it is still reaching for the top. There's been a few downward climbs, but the summit continues to rise so the franchise has to climb back upward again.

Frankly, I don't see why people are constantly harping on these movies. If you are tired of them, or don't like them, you simply don't have to go see them. I would rather go see the next MCU film than another generic no name action movie with a Mary Sue character that is supposed to be human. Or hell, when the MCU films cover other generes, it does it better than most genre films.

For example, I just watched a movie called Red Sparrow last night which is hands down one of the worst spy thriller movies of all time, if not the worst (and the worst movie of 2018). They forgot to put the espionage and suspense in the film. Black Panther did the spy thriller theme so much better and it's considered a super hero film.
And that right there is the key to the MCU's success.

The "superhero" genre is so broad that it can encompass a wide variety of tones and styles. That's how we can end up with a gritty crime drama like The Punisher and then go onto a sci-fi comedy with Guardians of the Galaxy. Because functionally speaking, there's no difference between something like The Winter Soldier and something like Mission Impossible....the only difference is the main protagonist is Captain America.

I really don't get how people can say they are sick of superhero movies but still tune in for the latest non-superhero action movie, unless they're referring specifically to the hype surrounding. Because how would something John Wick be made any worse if John Wick happened to be a comic book character?

And you hit the nail on the head. Most of the people I see who constantly dump on the popularity of superhero films are hating on specifically that - the popularity. The hype. "It was good when there were fewer, but because everyone is doing them all the time, they suck now" is the basic argument they're coming from. It's the same as it ever was, people trying to be pseudo-elitist by hating things just because they're popular.

I got to thinking, it's crazy that August is not even over yet and we can practically start in on top 10 lists for the year because almost everything sans the Vintage wave and some of the anniversary stuff has shipped for the year. I'mnot counting the black panther wave because even though it'll probably be available in December it's officially a 2019 wave, if I understood that from SDCC.

I'm not complaining. I already know what my #1 for the year is. I just have to figure out the rest.

of course
I kind of don't like Scream either but I thought about getting her, just because she's a female villain. But I really abhor the whole symbiote explosion, beyond Venom and Carnage. There is nothing about that figure that calls to me whatsoever.

And I might just have to do the list. This weekend maybe. I do so like lists.

The ones I don't care for (I don't have most of these):

Magneto
Sp//Dr
House of M Spider-Man
Spider-Ham
X-Men Deadpool

Spiderverse doesn't excite me that much, I don't need anymore Deadpool figures and the Magneto is in a costume I really don't care for

Spider-Ham is probably my least favorite. There no way he should have been $20. He is literally a pvc.

@DTL idk about ice Man I haven’t read any of the new comics so your guess is as good as mine

a LOT of those spider-dudes are not my favorite BUT... the spider verse is getting SOOO big.. a good display will have MANY of them. So i'm just kinda building towards that. I actually put the PS4 SpiderMan figure on reserve because even he is getting written into a future spidey-verse storyline in Marvel books.

Or....maybe some of us have felt that Marvel has been releasing the same movie over and over since Iron Man 3, just with different characters, and would like to see something a bit different in approach. Despite the backlash against them, I think DC has killed Marvel in this regard. Man of Steel and BvS were not masterpieces by any regard, but they were entertaining (for me anyways) because I liked the darker take that Snyder had on them. Wonder Woman was also terrific, bad CGI villain and all. Then Whedon came in and rubbed his snarky, Gillmore Girls-esque musk all over Justice League and killed off whatever work Snyder put into it, turning it into a parody of (insert Marvel film here.) It was quite disappointing.

I've become really annoyed by the hype each and every film Marvel puts out, but not because it's "cool to hate," but because they make every film see like something new and epic is bound to happen, only for the film to dissolve into the same formula of ill-timed, sarcastic humor and CGI climaxes that have varying degrees of life or lifelessness. Add to that the fact that the hype these movies receive these days have made it nearly impossible to avoid spoilers and such, as everyone from Rolling Stone to the random A-hole on Facebook is letting you know about the big plot twist, who dies, or the surprise cameo, often hours or even days before the film ever hits theaters.

Most of the stuff Marvel has put out these last two years have been mostly been a bunch underwhelming one timers for me, but that's not to say I haven't enjoyed anything though. I thought Infinity War was okay, and Homecoming was better than I expected, despite my disdain for yet another teenage Peter Parker. Civil War was excellent. I thought the last season of Luke Cage was really good, and I am pumped for DD season 3. Even Cloak and Dagger was better than my expectations. I think Venom can survive without Spider-Man if they stay faithful to the "Lethal Protector" story it was based on (and stay away from the PG-13 rating, which Sony is supposedly desperately fighting for.) On the DC front, Shazam really has my attention as well (although Aquaman...not so much.)

Truthfully, the one film I had the most fun these last few years was Ready Player One....but Spielberg has this midas touch about him, and that whole recreation of the Shining was absolutely amazing...

That’s awesome man! I definitely get it! I don’t have a problem (thou not my favorite) with spider ham as a character really at all. It’s just the price point $20 seems a bit high. I kinda wish he’d been a pack in with some other figure. But at least he wasn’t a build a figure like dc Multiverse’s Dr psycho haha

@Triv, note that I said 'most of the people I see.' I'm certainly not calling out people who have valid criticisms or just don't have the same level of interest in the films, but go off I guess (I tease, I tease)

And Whedon wishes he had Gilmore Girls-level writing. He used up the quality writing/directing he had in him a long time ago.

Abigail Brand is seriously rumored for Captain Marvel Legends? What an utterly shitty character choice. I know that terrible pregnant Spider Woman head is going to be reused but they really shouldn't have even made it in the first place if that was how they were going to plan on making more money off of the mold. It could have been Brotherhood Rogue, or Destiny, or anyone else. Literally any other female would have the A-Force connection and probably sell better. Gah.

Most have had, what, 18 years of superhero films? 20 if you say the craze started with Blade. 10 years of the MCU. I can understand fatigue. i watched my first Marvel movie last year, and I'm not feeling it yet.
