Not to go too far down this road of divergent topics (a tangent that I own a good portion of the blame for), but comparing sexualized images of women vs those of men is not really a comparison at all within the world of comics....the incidents of women being objectified far out pace the opposite scenario with men. This much is obvious to me as a man.

Had same problem with mine. Take the belt off and you can get to the hip easier then just gently work the joint. It will loosen up.

And how many male superheroes boil down to "I haz super big muscles?" The recent Spider-Woman controversy was hilarious. Her pose was no different than Spider-Man's on hundreds of comic covers. Not to mention the countless panels where he's thrusting his crotch at the reader mid web-swing. Saw some of the more ridiculous examples that were compiled in the comments of an article somewhere, it was pretty funny in a sad way. That one early cover of Red Hood and the Outlaws where you can clearly see the outline of Jason's junk went largely unnoticed, whereas Starfire's redesign and actions inside the book were again criticized.
Regardless, these characters only look as ripped, sexy or normal as is ideal to the artist drawing them at the time. Batgirl's most recent redesign is due to the new writer and artist coming up with their ideal version of Barbara and her suit, for example. And artists should have that right to interpret the characters as such, from one extreme to the other. No different than how we each have the right to like or dislike such interpretations. I'm not trying to sway anyone, just rambling, really. Anyway, in hindsight this is probably inappropriate talk for a toy site. I stated my opinion, and it's the last I'll discuss of the matter. After looking at pics of the BAF Rocket Raccoon, I'm only just realizing I don't like the sculpt very much. It looks a little too psychotic (in the "Murdered ya!" way), whereas the movie version looks much too depressed. A new head sculpt for the box set that is more of a compromise between the two would be nice. I'm also torn on whether a uniform look from a single specific iteration for the whole team would be preferred, or a little bit of a mix and match from various runs. I don't know if there's one run where I've personally liked all of their designs at the same time. |

Repaints, Ah! Hello, to everyone. In one of my previous posts, I mentioned that I did not like the GOTG figures that much, mainly because they are movie based...I did not want to disrespect the people that do have the figures...I actually think Groot is really cool at that. It is just, I think I got my heart broken when the GOTG 6 in ML figures did not have running changes or at least one more comic book styled character in the wave. Plus, I like the Gamora figure, but I rather have something that meshes with the more 'comic book accurate' like, Rocket, Nova, Drax, and Star Lord. To each is own. I also have to say, Hasbro is doing a better job of late with action figures, but it seems like the distribution is has been on the decline for a while now, I would say, a couple of waves. But, I found a little solution to ease my stress with Hasbro's distribution. For now on, every time I take a trip to the local retail stores and LCBS, and I do not find a figure from the new wave (give or take $25.00 a figure), I will save the money and put it towards figures that are in my top ten list. So, if I do not find the figure the following week on my next trip, I will buy a figure (50.00) that I wanted online or on a toy web site, if they have the figure at that price. I am not going to let distribution or scalpers stop me from collecting and getting figures at a fair price. So, at least I will have something to look forward to week by week. So, if Hasbro distribution stays horrible, I will get one step to getting my top figures out of the way of my list. If Hasbro distribution is good, then I will have some new ML 2014 figures to add to my growing collection. Win, Win! Now let's see if it works!

Like I said. It DOES happen with male characters but the issue lies in the sheer volume that it happens with female characters.
I am really hoping their look is based up this era (groot not pictured) ![]() I also really hope to one day get a Martyr....and Mantis!!! Quote:

I would be interested if Hasbro made Adam Warlock in his modern look, maybe with swap-off Magus head. A Martyr would also be cool, possibly having a Quasar variant, and Cosmo.
The only movie figures I have are Star-lord and Rocket, but I must say they look good next to my comic figures (of which there are two) since that is how they made Peter look now and Rocket isn't so far off considering artists have varied on how realistic he is or isn't.

@Poison Shadow
I get where you are coming from, men have been/are becoming more sexualized in the modern context. However, this is a relatively recent phenomenon for males; it lacks the frequency or longevity that has been observed with women. This goes beyond that article about Spider-Woman. Even as a kid, I was aware of the overt sexual themes in comics (in many ways, the depictions of women shaped my own preferences in females growing up). At the time, the main target audience was young males in (or around) puberty...and it showed in the art....the brand has grown now to include new readers and sensibilities. There is real scientific (psycho/social) research to support all of this, but you are right...this is neither the time nor place. I hope you know, I didn't mean my comment as a call out. Sometimes, I'm too candid and public with thoughts....I like dialogue and this backfired a bit, sorry. @Fortune That is exactly the GotG team I want to build out....my hope is that we get Warlock, Mantis, Bug, Phyla, and Cosmo at some point. But I've said that many times now.... Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 09-01-2014 at 06:45 PM.. |

With the exclusive Rocket figure being released with the white trim, I wish the SDCC exclusive Star-lord had had the white trim too. That way the blue/red guardian costumes could all be purchased at retail, while the blue/white could be a special niche.

I just hate that Drax is gonna be the almost same as the already released figure, just on a bulkier buck. I would much more prefer OLD big dumb Drax in the green, gold and purple. Anything from the Infinity Gauntlet era is good with me. :-)

I plan on using the new Cyclops body for a Warlock custom. Might use the extra Winter Solider head for the head. Maybe do a second for Magus too

I know I've said it before in the 3.75" forum, but if they make comic Gamora it should be the Abnett and Lanning run design since that matches the other figures already available (the Drax was that design, the Rocket Raccoon BaF/membership exclusive is that design, and the comic Star-Lord is that design) so making it the Mass Effect armor design would just alienate her look from the team too much. I believe Hasbro would rather just repaint three existing figures and mock up two new figures, rather than make five entirely new figures. They could use this version, as I've said so many times before, to be more considerate to concerned buyers (though Emma Frost and Tigra wear about the same or less and nobody cries out that they use those designs, or that the Silver Surfer is technically naked and Hercules dresses like a man-stripper).
![]() I'd definitely prefer for them repaint the SDCC Star-Lord, besides that being easily his best costume. The vol.3 one is very dull and lame compared to just about every other version. Going with his most recent design would just be a repack of the movie toy, and that wouldn't likely sell. Waaaait as much as I'm all "oh slutty costumes stink" I just generally don't like this costume. It's pretty much what was happening around 2007/2008 so I mean I get it, I just personally don't like it. I mean I'd rather have a Gamora than not so I'm happy with any.

I doubt it, the Legends got a Hope figure and Mu never made that one. MU made Moon Knight and Darkhawk and those were kind of early in MU (less so Darkhawk) and they don't have any Legends planned anytime soon. I think each line is kept fairly to itself, even if one made a figure and then that figure never sold I wouldn't put it past Hasbro to still release it in the other format regardless of previous attempt.
Or maybe you mean that they made MU at all to see if anyone would even buy Hasbro Marvel figures and if that did well then they'd go to 6". If that's the case then would've been weird planning on Hasbro's part, I know a good deal of people only collect 3.75" scale and if the scale ends then they'd rather just not get figures anymore rather than start from nothing in a new scale.

I think MU was a grab at a younger market at first, maybe to get kids into collecting, but it quickly became collector fare for Marvel fans and customizers from other 3+3/4" lines. MI, is Hasbro capitalizing on what MU turned out to be, and I almost wish I'd waited a few more years to get back into toys, but I do really enjoy my ML collection, so I have no real complaint.
Okay, maybe one small gripe...lol, some of the MU/ MI figures that have been made...I want them made for ML, but that's it.

I feel like both lines are going to have some similarities because of how popular a character becomes or isn't. MU made Nova just because they could I guess. Legends made Nova because of the Guardians of the Galaxy. As for characters like Constrictor and Gladiator who got Legends, but had MU figures much earlier, I theorize it may just be that they still had permission to make figures for them so they did in the new scale. If Legends was making figures based on how well the MU figures sold then they would never make a Gladiator ever because that thing didn't sell (I think if it weren't for the fact that they put Gladiator into the SDCC set I don't think they would have ever made it based on how poorly the MU figure sold).

I recently bought a Black Bolt on ebay and the plastic is by far the cheapest feeling plastic, I've felt to date. I also have an extra Jubilee head if someone has any extra jubilee parts looking to trade.

How many folks pre ordered Agent Venom through Walgreens and are still waiting for it to be shipped? I think I should have started hunting for these when they reported, I feel like these won't be shipped out at all from them.
