Got to mess around with the Far From Home set a little. Love Mysterio. Doppelganger is pretty nice too. Overall a good set.

I did say "only just," because the figure itself isn't a letdown - the head is.

I get that they were mimicking the X-Men #1 covet art (which also explains Gambit's hair), but it would've been great to have a head other than just the open-mouthed snarl. It's just not very Hank.

My only issue is his lack of pupils. Other than that, I have no issue with the head.

All right, now that I'm back in front of a keyboard (long posts on mobile are balls), thoughts on the X-Wave in-hand.

Beast - As I said before, the only figure that's a little of a letdown, but ONLY because of the head. The sculpting and engineering on him are amazing, bringing back a certain level of Toy Biz-era articulation with Modern Hasbro design sense. I know a lot of people love the old Beast over this one, and I wish them the best, but this Beast looks fantastic and works so much better with the rest of the 90s-style X-Men. My lament about the head is just that, sure, Beast can be snarling and threatening, but he's more often than not a quiet, mildly amused character, with a spark of both intellect and wit in his expressions. I would have really preferred to have two heads on this figure. But, entirely new sculpt and all. Can't have everything.

Blink - I have been waiting for a new Blink figure for over twenty years, and Hasbro delivers. This is definitely Exiles-style Blink (rather than Age of Apocalypse), based on the hairstyle and the smaller costume details (almost directly based off of this image). She's a very solid representation of the character, and other than the weird twist they added to her loincloth, I have no large qualms with her. There are things I would have done differently (brighter colors, a removable Tallus bracelet, and/or an alternate AoA head come to mind), but those aren't things that keep me from enjoying the figure to its fullest.

Forge - It actually took me a minute to realize he was on the Bucky Cap body! That's the power of additional pieces and the right kind of paint. I dig Forge's headsculpt, stoic but not too bland. Had a little paint chipping on one arm, but hardly a dealbreaker. I would have liked to have seen him come with the 'mutant power nullifying' gun that he made in the comics, the one that was central to his earlier character arc. Still, solid and looks great with the rest of the figures. Can't wait to see if the X-Factor Havok and Polaris two-pack becomes a reality, because them and Multiple Man'll be a solid foundation to build the rest of X-Factor around (Strong Guy, anyone?)

Gambit - I hated the hair at first. I still wish it were different. BUT. This is a fantastic Gambit all around. The deco used, the articulation, the accessories... I really can't complain. Maybe about the coat, but Hasbro's gonna make the most out of that coat mold until is crumbles. His hair even looks all right if you angle his head right.
And with that single card accessory, you can recreate the "Ace of Spades" moment from the end of 'The Final Decision.'

Jubilee - You know, for as long as it's been for a new Blink figure, it's been even longer for a 'classic' Jubilee. She's gotten her Generation X costume, her vampire-era design, the standard X-Uniform, and even a weird 'Robot Fighters' figure, but never a proper action figure of the classic outfit. Not only does this figure change that finally, but it does so amazingly. The only reused parts (that I recognize) are her hands and her legs (from the thigh-cut to the mid-calf) - the rest is perfectly sculpted brand-new pieces that bring this design to life. Sure, she could have removable glasses for her standard head (which you can do with some modding anyway), and she could have fireworks effects (which are easy enough to make/co-opt depending on your existing collection), but she's fantastic enough on her own that it's hardly an issue. Probably my favorite single figure of the wave.

Skullbuster - I don't have a lot to say about Skullbuster, mostly because he's... well, he's a goon. A named goon with history, but a goon nonetheless. He's a great re-use of the Deathlok mold, with the added jacket and bandolier helping make him visually distinct. The new heads are really nicely done, with great paint on the Skullbuster head, and a surprisingly fantastic sculpt on the Macon head. That head is the only reason I've considered tracking down a second-hand Nuke.

Weapon X - I expected to hate this figure just for being another Wolverine. But the level of detail gone into his paint and the sculpting of the additional pieces really dulls that. I don't really care for the screaming head, but that's easily just put in a baggie and forgotten about. The tech pieces hanging off of him, the painted-on hair... something about it all works to make the figure more worthwhile than you'd expect. Only problem is that he sticks out in a collection, not really fitting with any other groups due to the era the story takes place in. But if you have a Wolverine shelf, he'll feel right at home.

Caliban - Undoubtedly my favorite figure from the wave. I have a longtime love for Caliban, and the 5" Toy Biz figure was one of my favorites when I was younger. This big boy just takes everything I loved about that figure and the character's design, and modernizes it. He's a nice, big chunk of a figure, with a great pearlescent white used throughout, and a high-contrast dark red to go with it. My only complaint is that now I need more Morlocks to go with the big guy.

Shinzer02- For me a ML display really just has two main requirements- it has to be fun to look at and explore, and DO NOT OVERCROWD! lolz. SpiderMan was getting too crowded so I pulled out the gangsters- Avengers is just on the cusp of too crowded but I think it can hold for a while. Basically, just because you own a figure doesn't mean it need to be displayed. And try to tell a story with the shelf if you can just to make it more fun to look at. Detolf are super easy to build foam dios for to give a base and background to your figures along with filling in some of that empty space.

...and this is the picture dio area that tends to get stuff I want to take pictures of scattered around it. Along with ML I also collect StarWars 6in, DC figures, Storm Collectibles, NECA figures, SH MonsterArts, HotToys, MOTUC... and whatever else catches my eye (which I try to keep to a minimum due to space)- I have toys in the gameroom and "gym" as well but those are 90% other collections

Oh yeah- and i hate "duplicates" in a display- so for me seeing two wolverines or Jean Grey or Cyclops, Deadpool, etc etc etc... Total pet peeve seeing that on a shelf. lolz (unless it's specifically a character collection it just makes no sense) HA!

But just set your shelves up to YOUR standards of what works for you and you can't go wrong...

I received my Far From Home wave earlier this past week, and after a couple of days with them, here's some thoughts. I'll start off with the MCU figs first...

Spider-Man: Not a whole lot really to say about this one that we couldn't tell from pictures, as this figure is basically a straight repaint of the original Homecoming Spidey, but that gives this one a nice leg up since that figure was pretty good. The only complaints are the sheen of the plastics being uneven (the head is a flat matte while the body has a glossy finish, something that is rampant in this wave.) and the lack of web-lines on the figure, but the latter is not a deal breaker. The addition of gripping hands are nice, although he comes with no accessories to use them with. Still, I love the Homecoming figure, and I honestly ended up liking this one more than that one, since it calls back to his classic first appearance. This might end up becoming my go to MCU Spidey.

Stealth Suit Spidey: Addressing the elephant in the room with this figure, yes, you can turn this into a Noir version of Spidey easy with a jacket from the Netflix Punisher...although I'm sure the one that came with Jubilee or the recent School Jacket would probably work better...although you would have to do some painting with both.

Just like the previous Spidey, there's not really a whole lot to this figure we haven't seen from the photos. This one does a much better job with the varying plastics and finishes, with some some areas being a flat matte while others are accented with sheen. It really makes a pretty boring costume design pop under the lights. The additional head and hands are nice additions, although they chose not to use the digital print on the head featuring the flipped up visor. When picking one up, pay attention to the eyes, mine were rather sloppy, and required me to clean them up a bit. Not an essential figure to own, but a nice solid figure if you are looking to own it.

I should also mention the Tom Holland head fits on both figures, although on the Stealth Spidey, it does sit a bit high on the neck.

Mysterio: A really good figure with an excellent sculpt and a few minor flaws. The paints on mine were crisp and clean, and the fishbowl is awesome, with a beautiful pearlescent purple adorned with glittery detailing, and a really awesome cape with some great details on it. There's no alternate head to swap out, but if you really want to, the skull head from the previous Mysterio will work on this one as well as the bearded Peter Parker everyone is seemingly using. He does have alternate fisted hands, but otherwise no additional accessories, which is a bummer considering the basic version of the figure comes with a neat looking spell effect that would go great with this guy. He also has a weird thing going on with the lapel on his cape at his right shoulder, which has a completely different shape (and looks almost unfinished or broken) he has no waist swivel to speak of, so don't try to turn him there. Those gripes aside though, I'm a huge fan of MCU villains since they were so scarce for years, and this one is no different. He's a must own.

Nice grabs triv. It does look like hasbro is starting to pull an mu with the legends figs by constantly reducing articulation points on legends more n more ( its definitely more noticeable on mcu stuff ). That spiderman black n red thing looks like one of those chinese knock offs.

Hssn't torso swivel always just been a point with figures featuring an ab-crunch. I can't think of any figure with the ball jointed chest articulation that also has a waist swivel... (but that's only looking at a few MCU figures in hand)

It's usually 50/50 whether a figure with balljointed torso also has a separate waist swivel. It can often depend on whether the figure is based on a body which had a hinge ab crunch and waist swivel, and they've added a new torso that has the balljointed crunch but retains the waist swivel, like Juggernaut wave Cable.

Yeah I'm really jealous of those dioramas. Don't have the hand steadiness to do that kind (or really any kind) of delicate work. It made my attempts at customizing figures... rough when it came to painting.

As for Vamp Jubilee... the BAF is pretty close to her outfit there. When she got depowered she went the tech route for a while but then became a vampire and adopted an infant so things got complicated with her. I honestly think her time as a vampire had some of the best character development, though I do find it kind of odd that X-men members tend to become vampires more often than others. I think Jubilee was the first hero who became a vampire and stuck with it for a while.

Success!! I finally found a case of Walmart Exclusive Caps. He was on a shipper in the middle of the toy isle.
And I gotta say he’s definitely without a doubt the best Evans MCU Caps.
His Unmasked head is great but the best Part. Is his Masked head. It’s a thing of beauty. This only makes the second Walmart Exclusive I’ve ever found. Thankfully I got him out of the way.
He should’ve Been in wave one of Endgame. And if they needed to have a Walmart Exclusive Caps it should’ve been that Quantum suit one.

At first I was going to argue that Storm became a vampire first, but I think it's the "stuck with it for a while" you were getting at since Storm's transformation only lasted 2 issues.

She was a vampire for the better part of the last decade, only getting turned back at the end of the most recent Generation X series.

Spider-Man FFH series is pretty good. The Mysterio is fantastic. I really like the quality Hasbro put into it. The rest are pretty good "fillers". Never imagined I'd ever see a Doppelganger Spidey toy! The Build-A-Figure reminds me of the Titans from the Disney Hercules flick.

Thanks guys- but you really should try the dio building- it's waaaay easier than you think and doesn't require steadiness of hands or anything. Measure, cut, notch the heck out of it, paint it black then dry brush it dark grey... once you see how easy it is then you can expand to rock walls and stone walls and brick and multiple layers, etc etc etc... that's not to say thre aren't some crazy talented dio builders using laser cutters and all sorts of techniques outside my paylevel- but for just some basic dio backgrounds for shelves and what not- it's not tough at all.
