All the 'Assistant Editors Month" content was tongue in cheek. That stuff isn't really considered canon, but it did indeed happen and people (not me, even as a kid I was discerning) paid money for that dreck. I've a 70's Visionaries FF run TPB that features an AEM story where Stan Lee, George Perez, Jim Shooter and other luminaries of the period are written into a story featuring Impossible Man with all sorts of boundaries being shattered. I'm also a bit surprised that you don't recall that ridiculous story...
Edit Double checked that FF TPB and the story isn't an AEM (it definitely reads like one) and it features Stan Lee, George Perez, and Jack Kirby (not Jim Shooter). 2nd Edit Cracked open my Dorkside Retro X-wave and the paint applications for Cyclops and Silver Samurai are pretty bad. Additionally, Dazzler has an ever so slight pupil misalignment. However Storm is perfect, as are Patch and Iceman. I'm happy, but I may have to replace Silver Samurai as the paint is so sloppy that it borders on dealbreaking status. My Silver Samurai had a pretty good paint job, but my Dazzler has a slightly wonky eye as well but are pretty awesome figures With Iceman being pretty standard and decent, I'm really happy with this wave. Since I've segued into a mini review - my apologies TBM - : I did make my own adjustment to the Cyclops figure without the optic blast slot, the one with just a little bit of the energy coming out, I cut them off and plan to shave them down somehow - would have liked one head in a pose without any energy effect. Wolverine is just okay. Nothing really exciting going on here for me personally but I could work him in with some Madripoor type settings. Gonna neeed some mercenary/soldier cannon fodder though to recreate the comic cover it's famous for. Overall though extremely pleased with this wave as it's given me my most wanted "new" costume for a character Hasbro style , and the alternate Dazzler too, she was a complete surprise at TF, at least this soon. |

to me Storm (the far and above most wanted of that wave) is almost perfect. Or at least the one I got. the darker shading of her hair was a bit more than I would have wanted and would have preferred it to be mostly white with the tiniest bit of black shading mostly for shadowing, much like in TAS - but it's definitely not a gripe enough to feel it's not anything but a fantastic figure.

FIRST.. this wave is really tight and the packaging is TOP NOTCH. . i can def see why people would want to leave these MIP. my eyes on Daz were fine and my SS is actually great... (i'd swap that bad boy out if your paint is effed) my only issue is with the 2 tone colors of Cyclops!!! (even though passable...STILL...why???) i have a second storm coming (she hard to get and the possibilities!!) I have a second iceman coming from HP... i "intend" to try to paint him and create an ice slide and have them the same colors.... sheeeeeesh.. wish me luck....

Yah, the quality as of late hasn't been top notch IMO. Saw two Dazzlers at Gamestop and both had bad eyes... I mean, they weren't that bad, but didn't pass the eye test at first glance, so that is never good. One Iceman I saw was missing his belt... did buy the second Iceman I came across though. The Silver Samurai I saw just had bad paint apps period.
For my Family Matters 3 pack, my Quicksilver was fine, Magneto was fine except for the regular eyed helmet headsculpt had slghtly misaligned paint on the helmet, but that's fine since I will just use the white eyed helmet headsculpt and the Apocalypse wave unmasked headsculpt. My Scarlett Witch was just a plain tragedy though... her left eye was completely misaligned... I mean she looked like Sloth from the Goonies. LOL. But I prefer my Odin wave Scarlet Witch anyway, so that too didn't really matter to me. Seems like only the singles have decent quality... the vintage wave, 2 packs and 3 packs have very hit or miss quality control. |

Thank you for the welcome, Augustus_Cole. I do agree the Bucky Cap and Pizza Spidey molds needs to be retired, as well as some of the older molds. Spider-Man, especially, needs a new mold with more articulation.
I'd also love to see the paint app errors fixed. I was originally wanting to get the retro X-Factor Cyclops, but after the different metallic blue paint tone problems and the lack of a Cyclops head that doesn't have those eyebeam effects at either side of his visor, I may wait to get it. Since San Diego Comic Con is getting closer, there's another figure I'm hoping that Hasbro will eventually make: the classic "giant brain" version of the Leader in his orange-and-black suit. Since we're getting the Wolverine and Hulk 80th anniversary two-pack, I'd love to see a new villain figure made for the new Hulk to face off with. |

I think Hasbro needs to do a second update on Abomination, make him look like or as big as the Marvel Select figure, but with more articulation. If not a Build-A-Figure, then maybe in a 80 years vintage package like the upcoming SDCC Vintage Hulk.

I could have sworn Hasbro said like 2 years ago they were getting ready to retire the Bucky Cap mold when they unveiled the Spider UK and Sunfire molds.

While I understand that people dig the packaging and the sense of nostalgia it evokes, I laughed to myself thinking that I wish Hasbro would've spent more time perfecting the paint apps rather than painstakingly recreating packaging from the 20 years ago. I'm not going to go too deep here regarding my thoughts because I believe the sentiment would be lost on many, but there are aspects to collecting that have always been off putting to me. Atop the list is the feeding of non-stop consumerism of which I've never been - and never will be a celebrant.
I have somehow been Extremely lucky with paint apps from online stores. every time i open a delivered package I cringe slightly HOPING i don't get a crap paint app. The entire wave was fine. my Magneto 3 pack was totally fine and i've heard about and seen some of the issues with those. Both of my Ragnarok 2packs had issue BUT ..i had purchased those from Gamestop and simply found a set that was good (actually i had to swap out a fig because one was good and one was bad). Skurge had marks on his face and a spot right between his eyes. and my first grandmaster's wig piece was not on properly. Quote:
SIDE NOTE. while this Silver Samurai may not be the most popular of this wave. I believe it is the best figure of the wave easily. I hope you get your hands on one with a perfect paint app in the near future. ![]() ![]()

She looks great! Feeling bad for folks that just recently spent too much on the old one to finish off their X-Team!
So the big question now is- Will she come with an alt ponytail head? Last edited by Bo Ttef; 07-16-2019 at 08:45 AM.. |

I doubt anyone was dumb enough to go out and buy the old Jean at a high price when it was quite obvious a new one would be coming soon.

We did get the Target Spider-Verse 2 pack and since they didn't bother to give Miles a new movie accurate unmasked head I highly doubt they'll ever do that design again. With the masked head on though that Miles is a good representation of the movie design.
Re:Abomination; I've always had a problem with Hasbro's Abomination BAF since he's smaller than any Hulk Hasbro has done since the RoML. I want my Emil to at least be the same size as Hulk but bigger is fine, instead we have the opposite situation and with this new badass Hulk it's only worse.

Fantastic update to Jean. Of course, she'll be in the three pack which is surprise to no one. The surprise will be if she's not. I would like to get her but I don't know if I can justify it to myself to get a three pack of a redo and two figures I may not want. Guess I'll just have to see how good the Cyclops and Wolverine are.
If she's single carded by some surprise reveal, she's a definite buy. Side discussion! Regarding Abomination, I think the Toy Biz Abomination is one of their best efforts. I don't mind the paint wash on him and he doesn't look out of place with it since he's supposed to be down and dirty. Given that he's so much more a good scale than Hasbro's efforts as well he could quite possibly be the last Toy Biz figure standing if Hasbro were ever to redo all of Toy Biz's releases. I saw at least one bought in a FB group within the last month or so... there's obviously plenty more. Keep up-to-date on figures and you know when it's time to slightly drop your price on something and see if anyone bites... lol...

I'd imagine Hasbro is gonna try and get their full money's worth out of the new Hulk figure. I'd totally get a new grey hulk provided they do the new head right (larger brow and the like), of course the pants would be blue then and they could even re-use the torn shirt in an orange-yellow color as a nod to Kirby's original take. I don't personally care for Red Hulk but he does seem like another easy use of the figure.
