Gladiator has to be the absolute weirdest in this regard. I don’t understand how he got to be so rare.

Citizen V, Songbird, and Mach-1 (throw in Speed Demon & Blizzard to that mix just for shits and giggles) all draw pretty abysmal secondary rates. However, were a Jolt, Techno, Meteorite, and Atlas released? It's very likely that the original three would all see a jump in price should that become a reality, which it likely will given the existence of the others. I'd expect the same for New Warriors. Wash, rinse, and repeat. Of course, popularity also factors into the equation, but all of the wherefores and whys are pretty predictable IMHO. |

Sasquatch BAF Cable makes no sense to me... single packed... was hard to find for me... only ever saw him once at Gamestop... he was being scalped for $35-$40 when he first came out... then just nose dived back to $20-$25 soon after for like no reason and stayed there. Plus, he's 90's Cable... you can't complete 90's New Mutants/X-Force without him... and yet his value is not that much.

Rarity can be a vector that influences aftermarket prices, but anticipatory hopes of completing a team (or the actual realization) also raises resale value. Thunderball happens to be a combination of both scenarios. The character was a 'running change' (*rarity) with Piledriver back in 2012, then delivery of the full team came to fruition, with the Wrecker in 2013, and Bulldozer in 2015. Flash forward to the present and you get a ridiculously inflated price for Thunderball, while Bulldozer, the final installment, goes for super cheap.

I don't know if anyone else saw, but on The Fwoosh website, board member tatooinesandworm has posted codes for the next Avengers, Shang-Chi, Spider-Man and X-Men (possibly the House of X/Powers of X wave) after getting them from yakface. This next Spider-Man wave is reportedly for the second Spider-Man wave in 2021 and not the Stilt-Man wave. Curiously, Spider-Man's next wave have geological names for the next seven figures:
- Lodine - Manganese - Methane - Sandstone - Sapphire - Shale - Sulfur Which characters those could be are anyone's guess. I'm curious if we'll get codes for possible new Fantastic Four and Iron Man waves in the near future as well. Last edited by StuartGreen2019; 09-02-2020 at 10:39 AM.. |

I recall Rogue being super easy to find and then shooting up in value like crazy once people realized Hasbro was aiming to complete the Jim Lee/cartoon team.
Prior to that the Walgreens where I'd go to pick up my aunt's meds had at least 5 of her. Another look at Doom from Dan Yun's Twitter. |

I am disappointed by the missing paint on this retro Doom's head. The initial release had the skin around the eyes colored and his mouth-piece had the appropriate dark filling.

I knew better than to think that people wouldn't exploit Chadwick Boseman's death on the aftermarket. In just a few days both of the M'baku wave Black Panthers have shot over $100. I remember always wanting that Masters of the Universe Standor figure, the Stan Lee tribute character, but he was never too popular so I held off on buying one for the $30 he had been worth at the time. Then the moment Stan Lee passed it suddenly skyrocketed on the aftermarket. I guess the mania has died down and now I can get one for $70 versus the $110+ but still crazy for what was such an underrated figure. I'm glad that by chance I had a M'baku wave Black Panther in my Pile-of-Loot on BigBadToyStore. The $25 I spent sure beats the $150 on eBay and Amazon. I shipped today because now I have anxiety about there suddenly being an "inventory" issue and never getting it. Still worried it might not actually come. I bought it because I had yet to own any movie Black Panther and I felt that one had the best likeness to Chadwick Boseman. That said I never had any intention of completing M'baku so if anyone wants the arm just message me with a decent price. It's still surreal that he's gone.
Pretty much. I'm not a fan of The Eternals casting choices or any of what i've seen before but things can chance upon release. No one was asking about GOTG when it was announced and it wasn't like they were a big hit in the comics. Now look how important they are to the MCU.

Yes. I don't buy anything assuming that it'll have high resale value later but I do buy certain things at retail prices or below due to paranoia about things you highlighted above. Assuming of course I can afford it when it's available at retail. Speaking of expensive figures on the aftermarket I'm looking to trade my complete Silk for a Mandroid series Baron Zemo. Though I'm hoping for and anticipating a rerelease/upgrade comic Baron Zemo to coincide with the Falcon & Winter Soldier tv show.
Look at it this way, it's very possible that Hasbro will reissue the Wrecking Crew considering that the figures were always out of scale, that fact being exacerbated by the new classic Thor, and Hasbro's recent penchant for making pricey/rare/limited run figs available for newer consumers. Sure, I wasn't suggesting that you employ some sort of predictive analysis before buying. Nor was I suggesting that you collect figures for money; that's pretty foolhardy in my opinion given the bang or bust nature of the hobby, the fickleness of fandom, and the potential for a re-release to blow up values. My point was to shed some light on why figures like Thunderball skyrocket.

All I really hope for out of the Shang Chi wave is oomic Mandarin. I might get MCU Manadrin though, I'm sure he'll be in the wave.
Also was reading the Eternals wave is going to be possibly/probably be all MCU? Every figure? No Comic Sersi? ![]() |

Ugh, I am still so pissed that I missed out on this Black Widow. God I really hope Hasbro reissues her with all of the accessories and stuff.

I’m interested in what comics figures a Shang-Chi wave could net. Mandarin seems likely somewhere, but Hasbro could hold off on him for the inevitable Iron Man vintage wave. I’m guessing comics Shang-Chi villains (Moving Shadow or Midnight Sun), perhaps other martial arts Marvel heroes (classic Iron Fist, Hector Ayala White Tiger, Colleen Wing), and a different comics Shang-Chi (the gi look, with a shirt). |

The news about an Eternals wave being all-movie disappoints me slightly, as I was hoping Eternals would get us some more cosmic characters. That said, I can’t begrudge them it, as the movie has a pretty large cast. Maybe we’ll get some comic figures as retail exclusives, much like with “Black Widow.”

Shang-Chi will be much more interesting. I would think Shang Chi of course, the main villain which I think is confirmed Mandarin, and possibly a henchman or heroic/civilian supporting cast. And then 2-3 comic figures such as you suggested. |

If a wave is for a movie you can likely assume the movie version is getting made. While there are rare instances where a wave has both the movie and comic versions of the same characters (the Iron Monger, Mandroid, Dormammu and Gladiator Hulk waves come to mind), those are usually the exceptions. I'd imagine this is doubly true for a property like the Eternals or Shang-Chi, where the movie is most definitely why these characters are getting a wave at all.
For a comic Mandarin the best bet is a Vintage Iron Man wave (which we all know is coming at some point). Or maybe as a store exclusive. |

Also apparently the Spider-Man wave referenced is not the Spider-Verse/Stilt-Man one. Wonder if we'll finally see Mr. Negative.

I hope so. Considering his prominence is cross media, mainly the games, and the ease with which he could be created, it's pretty surprising he's not been made yet. I realize he's not a classic villain but he, along with Morlun, are probably the two most significant non-symbiote related Spider-Man villains that have been introduced since the turn of the century.

You really gotta love when you find a figure and you weren't even looking for it.
Stopped by two Walgreens yesterday looking for the Lightning Collection Dino Thunder White Ranger. First one didn't have anything, but the second one not only had the White Ranger, it also had a lone Silver Centurion Iron-Man on the shelf! I'm really digging this figure. My only real gripe is how they handled the head articulation. The head moves at the bottom of the neck. It gets a nice range of movement but it leaves a gap when you move the head upwards. It also makes it so that any Tony Stark heads sit too low on the body. So unfortunately no head swaps there. But otherwise, awesome figure. Probably my 2nd favorite Iron-Man in my collection after the 80 years version. We're starting to build up a decent West Coast Avengers roster. |
