Out my way, it was dead center on a perimeter aisle. Street date popped up at the POS, but cashier overrode I got the BOGO50% off too.
I was told earlier today they couldn’t pull them out the back because of the street date. I came back this evening because my wife needed some ingredients for a desert, and figured I would ask an associate to check again...hoping I’d get lucky and someone would go get one out the back. This kid point blank lied to me and said they were all sold out. I gave up on it, and looked back as I was leaving the toy aisle and saw the open shipper. Lucky me, lol. |

^ Damn... nice score... so much twists and turns... like a David Lynch movie version of a toy hunt.

I have to admit that I'm a little surprised at reading multiple calls for another Wolverine. With a chuckle, I immediately thought to myself this is exactly why they anchor lines with popular characters. Hasbro, like MacFarlane, knows that the urge to buy yet one more Spidey/Wolverine/Cap/Iron Man/Batman is irresistible for many fans.
I know I'll buy every comic Strange they put out...or any magic user really. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 11-25-2020 at 09:55 PM.. |

Looks like the Nimrod set is on sale again, back down to $56 before tax. Amazon also has the deluxe War Machine down to $21 and retro-carded Mysterio for $14, among others.

That's the sort of display that will pull in new collectors.
By the way, anyone else want a non-powered up Iceman?

My wife was going to surprise me... she found retro rogue on the shelf at Target. Took it to the register, and the manager came running, ripped it from the cashier’s hands, said “we can’t sell this!” My wife said that there was a whole peg of them, and he blamed the stockers as inept, and walked off. My wife was pissed! Came home ranting about it, never realizing that she was spoiling her own Xmas surprise should she come across it when Target management does allow it to be sold. Lol

Hasbro store on ebay has most of the Legends for $16.99 if you are looking for some older ones and few new ones.

It's been said before, but without any ancillary TV/film media associated with street dated figures, the action feels completely arbitrary.
My first experience with a highly publicized street date may have been GTA 4 (?). I think the reasons Rockstar offered for the date was to prevent early reviews which might present spoilers ruining the experience, or, possibly, some concerns over piracy. I don't really recall. Whatever the reason, the 'spoiler' aspect has been the more recent rationale especially with merchandizing that arrives before or alongside a theatrical premier. Not being someone who is affected by spoilers, I have always thought the lengths to which people go to avoid them to be somewhat silly. However, I at least understand the rationale. Street dating Rogue, Gambit, Negative Zone Spidey and Cyborg Spidey is comical in that the associated media (comics & toons) is from 30 plus years ago. There are obviously no spoilers involved here. The only reason I can think of to street date these items is to artificially heighten FOMO and drive store traffic for retailers. I've noticed this phenomenon with many of Hasbro's retail exclusives of late. Which, ironically (or maybe not so much so) often represent highly coveted comic canon characters. Sometimes, I wonder if marketing and merchandizing industries are where the more sadistic personalities go to hide after finding rejection in the pro-social professions. (/s) About the American-worker-on-American-worker hate that just popped up - as happens here from time to time - workers at Target are simply doing what their managers told them to do. No more, no less - it isn't some conspiracy to mess with eager collectors. The scorn might make a little more sense were it focused on the managers, but not even because they are also following instructions. The fault lies with Hasbro and the retailers who are obviously playing games with these unnecessary street dates... Happy Thanksgiving everyone. ![]() Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 11-26-2020 at 10:09 AM.. |

I’ve worked retail my entire life. Sitting on product in the backroom because of an arbitrary date goes against how I was taught. Push product out the back and make sure every customer leaves satisfied. You can blame managers for “breaking” street dates, but there’s a lot that goes into running the daily operations of a big box store, especially as you get closer to Black Friday. Street dates on $19 toys only complicates things further.
That said, I think they should put limits on each SKU/DCPI to discourage scalpers. |

Lol. She only liked my toy collecting habit at holidays. So much easier than her coworkers. Everyone else was trying to find power tools, car stuff, or motorcycle gear... my wife just goes to the toy aisle, spends $20, calls it a day. Even tho I’ve basically retired from collecting, my wife and daughter STILL go the toy route rather than have to put major effort into gift shopping. Lol Beats a light-up flamingo tie on Father’s Day or $2 cologne.

Nah. My wife can fight her own battles. First time EVER I heard her say “I’d rather buy from scalpers then waste another second in that store!”

That said, I think they should put limits on each SKU/DCPI to discourage scalpers. Are you suggesting that the front end employees are countermanding mandates from direct higher ups and purposely sitting on mech by adhering to street dates? And, out of simple curiosity, when you say, "you can blame managers for “breaking” street dates," are you implying that there is some punitive measure taken against a manager who does so? If so, that goes a long way toward illuminating why this conundrum persists and buttresses my comment about anger being displaced when leveled at floor-employees. |

I worked in retail for a few years in different areas from stocker, cashier, and manager. The only place i worked that had street dates was at music store (cds, tapes). The new releases was street dated and you could get fined for putting them out to sell early. I get certain things to be dated such as movie merchandise but toys? My opinion is if it is out on the floor, sale to the person then go pull the stock back. That is what I would have done, you do not pull things from your customers and berate them for a store mistake. I am in a different line of customer service now and let me tell you people are getting bad about thinking you owe them something for using your company even though they were fully aware of agreement they signed to get you to do the job. It is getting tough for any customer service workers today.
