I swear I see this same post from someone different at the end/beginning of every year.

Every year is gonna be full of some really cool stuff, some okay stuff, and some disappointing stuff, and it's not worth it to be disappointed, because it's easy to be disappointed. It's more fun to be excited about a few things, and focus on those, and maybe get some surprises you didn't think you'd like, rather than focusing on the possibility of an overall disappointing year.

I mean, I could be disappointed that the one announced X-Wave is focusing on a story I have zero interest in... or I could be excited that two figures in that wave are ones I never thought I'd see getting made, Moira and Karima. Y'dig?

I mean, have we reached a plateau? Hardly. Hasbro still has thousands of characters they could tackle, hundreds of alternate costumes or AU versions of staple characters they could do... just because it's a year that doesn't look like it'll be interesting, doesn't mean its any kind of a death knell. This line has been chugging along for... damn near twenty years. I doubt one year that we haven't even seen everything it's going to offer us counts as a "low point".

Eh, I’m not worried about it. I felt the same way about 2020’s figures, due to a string of waves that underwhelmed me personally (Super-Skrull, Demogoblin, Sugar-Man, Abomination, Crimson Dynamo), but ultimately, I’m really happy with this year’s figures. I think things even out. Due to the line’s prevailing popularity, the design team is able to take us to weird and fun places that they’re excited to go. Not all the product they offer is going to be for everyone, and that’s fine. I’m actually feeling 2021 is shaping up to be a great year for figures.

That is a good point and hopefully I can turn my "feels" around with it. I think it actually is because of the following, Ultra Seven sums it up well. If rumors are truly BOTBG and Iron Man waves are both going to have very light purchases for me, 2 figures each by my count. Nothing from Stiltman wave. Likely nothing from the Disney+ waves if they're all MCU. Sersi only from the Eternals wave....but we had 5 great years of product and may still have more, you're absolutely right. Just that what's slated to come out, except for the HOX wave, is mostly of no interest to me. But I know that's definitely not how it stacks up for everyone.

I mean, I've been cherry-picking since I started collecting, so another year of that doesn't really faze me. Like I said, the only thing that's got me less than impressed is the X-wave being mostly figures I don't want.

Hopefully there's a second X-related wave in the works. If not, well... at least it means it'll be a light year for my wallet (which is good, since over in Transformers we've got the return of Beast Wars, which is where my money's going)

Thanks, Nash. I really love where the line is right now, I’m having fun collecting it. I don’t mind the occasional foul ball, because the weird shit I like is just as likely to get its due. Case in point: I hated “House Of X,” but the wave got me a Marvel Girl figure, which, bizarrely, was my biggest want for the line. This year, my favorite and least favorite Legends waves ever hit in succession (retro Spider-Man & Sugar-Man, respectively). Everything is on the table now. Does anyone else remember them mentioning that Lou Ferrigno Hulk & Japanese TV Spider-Man were somewhat possible? It’s great.

I would love a second X-Men wave for next year. It would be nice to get more of the teams they seem committed to finishing, like the Outback & Giant-Size crews.

Its sad that legends is using under articulated bodies now, like they used on marvel girl. If this and pinless start to become the norm for legends then i will be done collecting. Its like dwight is trying to ruin legends the way he ruined marvel universe.

No because realistically, I don't expect the line to be everything I want all the time and nothing I don't want. Like I've said in the past, I'm more than fine with a wave I don't vibe with, as that just saves me money.

If a collector is only into one specific era or franchise, I can see why the current approach of Hasbro doing a little bit of everything (movies, classic comics, modern comics, retro, various franchises, ect.) would be irritating, but honestly I prefer them casting as wide a net as possible.

Under-articulated... what? Are you high? They just moved the ribcage/diaphragm balljoint down to the waist, like they've done a couple of times already on other figures (Doom and Kang, along with some movie toys). It's still the same number of joints. Like, if anything, this gives her better articulation, because she now has a functional waist joint, which is not easy to come by on female figures.

I think it really depends what you're into. The character/costume selection we know about for the upcoming year doesn't seem any better or worse than other recent years to me. There isn't much in the known pipeline for me, but that's usually true, because my focus is narrow. 2018 to 2020 were better for X-Men than 2016 and 2017, and 2021 seems about on par with other recent years for me: 2 to 3 waves, and likely a handful of exclusives or other one-off figures. Am I thrilled with House of X being so focused on a particular era? Not really, but the same was true of the AoA wave, and 2020 was still a great year for X-Men figures overall.

I am not a fan of those ball jointed waists. I preferred the waist twist and ab crunch. And theres still the pinless thing....they really need to do away with it. Without it its gonna make fixing the hasbro qc issues a shitlot harder to fix.

I haven't really seen anyone else complaining about pinless, and I personally like it. It looks great and makes thinner legs much less prone to warping. I've never had a Legends figure break before, so needing to fix them isn't really an issue for me. How do you end up breaking them? My four-year old even sometimes plays with mine (supervised, obviously) and we've never broken a single thing.

The last Marvel legends I had break was one of the first figures made when Hasbro took over the license. They’ve all been pretty solid, especially lately. I love the look of the pinless, I don’t have many.

Hey, I agree, but how often do you see a female character with those joints as opposed to the ball-joint mid-torso joint? Like I said, swapping it down to the waist for Jean really makes no difference and maintains the same number of articulation points.

I'd rather they had waist swivels and ab-crunches as well, but someone decided that this ruins the aesthetic of female figures, so that's where we're at these days.

Just to chime in on what Captain Nash and other were discussing, I decided to cut back pretty hard this year. I still ended up buying a bunch of Marvel Legends (last count it was up to around 70 or so). That's still a lot of figures. At around $20 each, that's about $1,400 on Legends alone.
I actually took a chunk of time and organized all my legends into storage bins yesterday. I just moved into a house and once the basement is finished, it will be my display area. In terms of organization and collecting habits, what I have decided to do is continue to buy all the X-Men characters since they are my all time favorite subgroup.
I'm still in for most Spider-Man and street level characters, but I'm not buying everyone anymore. Just characters that I really like.
Avengers is being cut down to who I consider core Avengers members and some villains, like Masters of Evil and such. There are supporting characters in there too (like other Thor, Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America characters).
Lastly, I'm keeping a decent amount of cosmic stuff (in my mind the Fantastic Four falls under that). But I got rid of a lot over the past year and I still have some more to sell.
I agree that there is a lot of product each year and it is hard to keep up. I personally don't even try to cherry pick anymore if I have no attachment to that character or design. Maybe it's just me, but that's how I plan on collecting from here on out. Other stuff might change down the road, but I feel very comfortable with my habits at the moment.

I still and will probably always buy by the wave- learned the hard way when Legends got picked up by Hasbro that passing on characters I don't even think I want will come back to haunt me. My X-Force lacks silver/black Warpath... my Thor area has no Wrecking Crew and my Mojo has no Spiral. lol... So I'm waiting on re-releases... Easier to just get that BAF and stash anyone I don't "think" I have a place for in a bin until the day eventually comes when I realize I need them.

Yeah, even with a "slower" year this year I still bought over 50 figures. I've got my want lists now, I'm trying to decide to stick to the 120, 90, 75, 50 amount, or be really drastic and get it down to 40 or 25. Likely a 75 or 50 count as I don't see me being able justify the larger two lists and I don't see me having the willpower to stick tot he smallest two.

I've done the opposite. I'll buy a wave and display the figures I don't care about as long as I have room for them and then if I decide later on to get rid of them, I get rid of them. That's what I've done for the likes of Thundra, modern Doctor Strange, Voodoo, modern Dormammu, Spider Bitch, Hawkeye, etc.

There's only been one or two figures that I sold off and like two year's later I've thought, "Oh damn, I should have kept them," but then I forget all about them right after. In fact, I actually forgot I even owned Thundra and Spider Bitch until I was typing this up.
