I wasn't really complaining about the top. I know why they used it and it works. My complaint is the top of the shirt being sculpted doesn't look good with the lower shirt being painted.

Steranko is definitely an unsung great deserving more notoriety and I also definitely enjoy his art. The only caveat I'll toss in there is that capturing and interpreting the nuance of artistic styles can be very hit or miss, with recognition and successful interpretation being really slippery slopes. In Hasbro's run, I've only really seen it accomplished twice where it was an obvious nod to a particular artist. Somebody at Hasbro, or one of their contracted sculptors, either knows or is a fan of Humberto Ramos because we've received both Goblin and Hobgoblin send-ups of his work. Now, it took a while for people to settle on a consensus that acknowledges these figs are indeed styled after Humberto's work and the jury's still out as to whether this is even a good thing - no offense to Humberto, I've liked his art too.
The first hurdle is nailing the translation. An easier task with figs and looks like Toy Biz' Bryne/Thing. A harder assignment with Toy Biz' McFarlane/Spidey that many believe might actually be a J.S. Campbell/Spidey. Artists that have specific style quirks like Humberto's feet/hands/faces, or Byrne's iconic Ben Grim brow and flat shale-stone appearance offer easier translations. However, specifically as it regards Steranko, his work is distinguished (IMO) by long limbs, long faces, crazy 70's era advanced-spy-tech (which, as cool as it looked then, most would consider pretty dated now), and trippy 70's era psychedelic backdrops. Only two of those things can be worked into a sculpt. Then there is the matter of recognition. To me Steranko and Gulacy illustrated faces in similar ways - long countenances with large eyes. Is the average collector going to differentiate, or even notice these subtleties? I dunno. I haven't even gone into the aspect of how aiming for a particular artistic look pulls a figure out of continuity with the other figs of the line. The Humberto goblins were effective, but the figures now stand apart and don't mesh with the other Legends IMO. Not poo-pooing your wishes, I like Steranko, just walking through how successful a process this has been within the Legends line. EDIT: All this Shield talk... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I hear ya but I still want Steranko SHIELD Agents! Hasbro has done well with Jim Lee X-Men. They need a talented sculptor not a CAD/CAM. They need someone who can sculpt a face that is not blank slate. |

@JCarterVA
Thanks JC... S'all good in the tha' hood bruh! If they can pull off making it look discernably like Steranko's art, more power to them. Steranko's a beast! |

I like the blue in the hair. Maybe applied it a tad liberally but it does have a cool off the page vibe.

Why was this released on a YouTube channel? Kind of cool I guess.

I stopped the video after dude pronounced it "win-grade" the second time. Does he ever say when/how this will be released?

So first Callisto, now Mastermind. Last year Ryan had talked about wanting to do a Retro wave based on the purple "Evil Mutants" packaging ToyBiz did in the 90s...

I think it's possible this may be a retro line, if there's one more reveal tomorrow that's related, it could be Wolverine, Callisto, Domino, Cannonball, Wyngarde and whoever gets revealed tomorrow. Maybe that instead the classic BAF wave I posted thoughts on yesterday.
An all villain retro wave would be nice too. Callisto, Wyngarde, I wonder if Avalanche and Destiny could be done, that could give us only Blob needed for BOEM II main lineup, or perhaps Ahab, Exodus, Stryfe might also be options. Heck they could given rerelease Mystique given how that was a general rarity to find in Walgreens stores and sold out quickly online. Other version of Magneto or Sabretooth are also options, but I don't see if with us getting alternate version of them in the next AOA wave. |

So with both of the reveals so far being repaints with new heads, future Marvel Monday releases?
I made some changes to the HFC Black Queen, I really didn't like the Selene head, I just kept seeing Shiklah, so I added Silver Sable's hair to the Jean BQ head, I was going to change the eyeshadow, but I think the red with the black adds to the whole vamp aesthetic ![]() ![]() I also painted a TK shield for Jean ![]()

MCU Zemo is a lefty but he can only hold his golden gun with his right hand. Is there a similarly gloved left trigger hand that came with anyone else?

@VeronicaMars, I totally did the same tk shield for my Marvel Girl! It really seemed like such a straight forward re-use (which I imagined they would want to do to maximize tooling costs) that I was genuinely surprised and disappointed when the next Jean Grey figure (in this case HoX) did not include it. I feel the Marvel Girl figure is a little lackluster, despite it being my favorite, without accessories. The shield really ups her game! It looks great with Jim Lee Jean too!
I am wondering why Hasbro is giving us all these X-men reveals that seem to be significantly further along then the computer generated samples they just put up for the AoA wave 2 pre-order. Also wonder what the reasoning is for not telling us how or where these figures fit in. If they are Marvel Monday's then why did they reveal before? Is it that classic x wave that was rumored before and AoA was a different wave? I don't know but a new villain based X-men retro wave would be stellar! Exodus, Destiny, Avalanche, Toad, Spiral...there are so many good villains to choose from! Last edited by Mimicboy; 05-30-2021 at 02:53 PM.. |

Wyngard is cool, but I also guess there is a Callisto figure coming out?

It isn't all that different than stuff they were already doing pre-pandemic with giving interviews to action figure collectors on Youtube. I remember Ryan giving a shout out to Boog at one of the last Comic-Cons before the pandemic hit.

^If there was going to be anyone that received an early proto, I'd assume it would be Boog and the ACBAers given their role as influencers since nearly day one...
