I stopped in at a Ollie's Bargain Outlet yesterday and came across several Walmart Exclusive Black Widow figures. They were priced at $12.99

The problem with Hasbro re-releasing certain HTF or pricey figs is that it then kills the value of the OG versions that people bought yrs ago. How would some of you like it if a figure you bought 5-8yrs ago is now worth $150 and Hasbro decides to re-do it again with some some different paint apps and it knocks the value of your $150 figure to $40 or less now cuz no one is interested in buying the version you have anymore cuz the colors on the new version "pop". TB Vision used to go for a pretty penny but once Hasbro made classic retro Vision, the value of that TB version has dropped as hardly no one cares to buy it now. Hasbro classic Vulture has made the TB classic version drop in price as well. Sometimes it's a case of you snooze, you lose. There are way too many other Marvel characters that have yet to even get a 6' action figure made of them but people want an umpteenth version of a figure that's already been done to death. I want classic Tarantula done on the new Spidey retro buck or even Sunfire buck before another Doc Ock-Kraven-Scorpion. When is classic 1st app Wonderman in the Avengers retro line? An in scale classic Wrecking crew is way more essential & in need of a redo before any Spiderman villains that have already gotten figures.

While some of you may not collect these for investment purposes, some people do. I don't begrudge them for that nor will I call them names. I'm not talking about someone that bought a retro Black costume Spidey yesterday for $22.99 and is now selling it for $45, that to me is wrong and scalping, I'm talking about someone who has VHTF TB/Hasbro figs that have gone up in value & now they lose value cuz Hasbro re-releases them yrs later or gives them a spiffier paint job. We all collect these figures for a variety of reasons. With a 5.6% inflation hike in the past yr plus a gallon of gas going for $4 avg, some people may have to be selling off their TB/Hasbro ML collections to make ends meet and the value of certain HTF figs that they may have going down cuz Hasbro is doing a re-do of that certain figure will hurt them financially when it comes to selling it for top $.

There's the conundrum, though- the fact that these have value is what created the issue of scalping at all. I wish all of this stuff was worthless, and that includes my collection of more than 500+ complete ARAH GI Joes. The more reissues, the better.
Also, this particular bubble is bound to burst eventually, and given that $4 gas average (it is closer to $6 here) among many other current issues, I see that happening soooner rather than later. Last edited by Sataninjaku; 03-09-2022 at 11:03 AM.. |

IF I choose to hold onto a figure so it can appreciate in value to flip it's always short term. Yes. I'll scalp it. Free market. Don't want it? Don't buy it. There in IS the risk. You have to know when to sell. At this point in the hobby if collectors are holding onto figures (Hasbro especially) and are not expecting a reissue they just aren't paying attention. Seriously? Who DOESN'T expect a reissue nowdays? |

I love reissues. Most of the time there some very nice improvements made. Take the recent Spiderman: Homecoming Vulture. I didn't want to buy the BAF. I knew more than likely it would see a reissue. It did. And it's better.

Yes, there are way too many action figures that need figures first. Yes, I would also love to buy versions of new figures that haven't gotten a turn or haven't had a figure made in 10+ years. New figures of characters like the Wrecking Crew, the Absorbing Man, Titania, Volcana, orange-and-black costume Leader, the Mole Man, Tyrannus, the Wizard, Trapster, Ringmaster and his Circus of Crime, classic Kaine, Calypso, any version of Wonder Man (first appearance, safari jacket, '90s black-and-red costume, etc.), classic Falcon with a Redwing figurine, classic red-and-black costume Wasp, classic red costume Daredevil, the Enforcers, the U-Foes, the Rose, classic Delilah, Octo-Spidey, the Amazing Bag Man, Xorn, any version of She-Hulk (purple-and-white costume, Fantastic Four uniform, etc.), brown jumpsuit Professor Hulk from Peter David's comic run, Avalanche, any version of Banshee, and any of the Outback X-Men, among many, many, MANY more, would all be great additions to the Marvel Legends line and fans have been waiting for years for them to either get a turn at re-makes or to get first-time-ever figures. Heck, I wouldn't mind more multi-packs or boxed sets so we can get pairings like the U-Foes, the Enforcers, the Tinkerer and two of his "alien" henchmen (one with an alternate Quentin Beck head, of course), the Red Ghost and his Super Apes, the Slingers, and many more. But that said, it takes time to get around to everyone and once in a while we do need a previously released classic character to get re-made or re-released in order for those who missed out to get their chance to find it and buy it too. And since we only have at least one for sure classic wave of characters per line a year now, since this year we're getting apparently one X-Men wave, a rumored Retro Iron Man wave, one comic Avengers wave, the 20th Anniversary of Marvel Legends wave, the 60th anniversary Spider-Man figures of various Spider-Men, and the rest of the waves are either M.C.U. based, Disney Plus series based, or based on 'Across the Spider-Verse', there aren't as many slots for comic based figures per wave as there used to be now that we have more movies, sequels and series in the works. Thanks for reading my nonsense. I hope you all have a wonderful day and stay safe, everyone. |

Say what you will about how garbage ordering from WM can be (and it definitely can), but goddam, they were quick with this one. Comic Strange got here today- and they apologized that he was late, no less.

I always get a good chuckle when a redo/reissue is revealed and there are people who get pissy because it devalues their old toys. Under that logic every character would be one-and-done per costume which is pretty obviously a poor direction.

I've been waiting 20+yrs for more core members of the classic Imperial Guard & Squadron Supreme to be made or a boxset of the classic Starjammers team, but nope, people just clamor for more of the same characters that have been made umpteenth times. Classic Gladiator & Hyperion need to be redone on the retro Herc buck before we get an umpteenth version of a Spiderman villain.

Also...they don't reissue some of these guys THAT often. I think Sandman wave was 2014? It was 2020 before they did another Green Goblin. It has been 4 years since we got Doc Ock, and the only thing close to him we've gotten was Superior Octopus, who is ALSO expensive now.
These are not high end collectibles, us newer collectors should not have to miss out on iconic characters because someone wants their $20 figure to stay worth $100. |

With that said, I understand the pain of wanting your favorite teams to get done and not have that happen. I'm waiting for The Enforcers from Spider-Man to get made along with the rest of the Serpent Society. Hell, Mattel never even finished the New Teen Titans, core Legion of Super Heroes, nor the Rogues. Hasbro was doing like one SS member a year but then stopped after Rock Python came out in 2019. However, like with the Serpent Society and Enforcers, the Starjammers and Imperial Guard are very low on Hasbro's priority list because they wouldn't sell to anyone but the die-hard fans. I gaurantee you an Imperial Guard wave would pegwarm until it was clearanced, even with an alternative Wolverine head for Fang. Store would be clogged with them the same way they are with The Eternals. Quote:
Prices can be listed as to their value in books all they want, but it's what people are willing to pay that truly determines how well it sells and let me tell you, people are cheapskates. They don't care that you're selling a lot of hard to find figures that are technically worth $40-70 a piece, they will only buy it if you are willing to sell it to them for an 80% discount.

Having just gotten Binary, I really want the other Starjammers more than ever. She’s a really cool figure, but there’s just not really anyone to display her with… I also want Lilandra, Deathbird, & some Brood drones.

Anyway, the quality control for the Walmart Doctor Strange is awful. Mine just arrived and the left glove popped off the arm when I was taking him out of the package. It looks like they only glued one side of the glove onto the plastic, so I just had to use my own glue to do their job for them. It's bad enough they were charging $27 before shipping, but now I even had to do my own assembly because their employees didn't bother to do such. At least mine didn't exploded at the waist like Shartimus Prime's Strange does.

QC issues for Legends has been really shakey as of late...especially for the exclusives. My Quasar had issues with his hands and when I picked up my Binary from Walgreens today...she had a busted inner ankle peg right out the box. Thankfully...she's on the older, pegged female body, which made it an easy fix once I found the right piece of fodder for it.

I received my Doctor Strange from Walmart today. I've seen a couple of posts on Reddit where the owners filled in the squiggle lines in the yellow trim of his cape. I liked the results so tried it my self with some orange paint. Overall it turned out well enough but if I could do it again, I'd probably mix up a batch of a lighter orange color.

^ I really like it... bet it looks really good from like six feet from the shelf too... might need to try that if I get a Strange.

Honestly, this is my favorite Flacon look. If we get a full on classic version, I might add him to the Captain America shelf that I have going, but that's if I even buy him. I'm trying to keep my favorite design for some characters rather than having 4 or 5 versions of them. I just want a good comic style Falcon Cap with wings. Although, I suppose I could use the Mr. Fixit version's wings on the Falcon Cap from a few years back. I'd just have to make a small notch in the arms. |
