I refuse to acquiesce to that sort of thinking simply because it doesn't serve me.

Also, I take back the "2.0" label for Ock. I thought I saw 'breathing' holes typical of wire sheathed in rubber and the aforementioned joints in the cinching clamps. Ock "1.25" is more appropriate here.

I completely get where you're coming from on that actually, but I'm leaving some room for newer collectors. But no, it doesn't really serve me either. and ha. 1.25 version.

Sigh, I know things are tough. The last few years have been tough. There's a lot of crap happening in the world that really sucks. But I'm still going to say it, it just feels like Hasbro is really dropping the ball this year, big time.

Things have been tough for sure, but Hasbro has been making record sales on Legends with all the new collectors popping up, and I know if Ock was a retail or deluxe retro card release he'd have the bendy arms, but I'm assuming the bean counters at Amazon wanted to spend the least amount on an exclusive, and reapplying the Silk paint masks to a new body took up most of the budget

So, is Doctor Octopus in a two-pack or as a solo release? Regardless, I'll get him. I love the new brighter suit colors and the new head sculpt is like the '80s Secret Wars and "The Amazing Spider-Man" #297 with those glasses.

That said, I'm underwhelmed. No bendable wire tentacles is something I get, as Ryan Ting said they're expensive, but Marvel Legends is already expensive, so why not include them anyway? I was also hoping for Ock's black glasses with white mirrored lenses, a la "The Death of Captain Stacy" and "Sinister War". We also have the bigger pincers and stupid lights on the tentacles, so the tentacles aren't "classic" looking. And if Ock is in a two-pack, that stinks. I don't like Silk and new collectors who want a Doc Ock can get him in an expensive two-pack. Oy.

I find it odd that every classic figure Hasbro has made has something off about it. For the 20th Anniversary figures, Captain America figure's shield has holes in it, the Hulk's head sculpts were odd choices, and Iron Man's Tony Stark head is too big. Add in Siryn's lack of a screaming head and the lack of rings on Havok's neck and I'm questioning Hasbro's decisions more than I did before, and I really, REALLY don't like that.

Seriously, Hasbro, what's going on?

The thing about that is the popular canard that this represents some sort of altruism on the part of Hasbro. In reality, it's merely a convenient excuse to to repackage and resell the same figure with nary a change or upgrade. As for the argument of offsetting the 'infamous scalper', after the rerelease, the secondary market readjusts and the original goes back up to nearly the same price and the newer rehash climbs even higher than its predecessor. Case in point: Green Goblin. It's absurd, really.

But hey, whutever...self-inflicted wounds and the such.

Kinda brilliant really; if you never put out a perfect release, people will keep buying the "one step forward, two steps back" versions you put out!

Taking a second look, Ock is even more disappointing. His temples look like they're painted gray. Did they Mr. Fantastic Ock's hair?!?

Triv and I discussed that a few years back on the thread (I believe it was with Vulture), hence the 2.0/1.25 language. Add to that calls for remakes and you get collectors that moonlight as toy themed masochists. It's been pretty transparent for some time and definitely feels like purposeful design.

Was either Vulture or I was griping about one of the symbiotes...the monster Toxin maybe? Hasbro always seems to come oh so close...only to have an oversight that either ends up ruining the entire thing, or sends us back to the boards asking for yet another update. Or it forces us to get into the customs game to fix it ourselves. At this point though...it's starting to feel intentional as they know they got us by the balls of our fandom.

I'll be getting that set just for Silk. Kinda bummed she is bundled with Doc Ock, as I was satisfied with the recent Hasbro version, and I still have my Toybiz one which has bendy tentacles that could be used on the Hasbro version.

Sorry, Triv (if I may call you Triv), but Silk and Doc Ock are confirmed by Dan Yun as a two-pack on Amazon and the pre-orders go up tomorrow at 1 p.m. Eastern. I just asked Mr. Yun if Ock's hair at the temples are painted gray on Twitter and I'm waiting to see what he says. I hope they're not. I know that Straczynski did that to Otto's hair during the Doc Ock/Carlyle 3-parter, but that wasn't the correct costume that Ock wore under JMS's run, which makes the head sculpt even more confusing.

EDIT - UPDATE: My disappointment to this reveal tonight has now turned into frustration, as I've had time to think through this reveal and I'm more upset by it than I thought I'd be. I could easily see this as a $60 figure for the 60th anniversary wave and, regardless of the price, the lack of new bendable wire tentacles is ridiculous since Hasbro knows fans have been asking for it for years. I can also see that when Hasbro does a Retro Doc Ock figure that's sold separately, that it'll be either a white Armani suit Ock with static tentacles. Or it'll be Ock in some kind of costume with bendable wire tentacles that'll be expensive. Or it'll be the 1990s animated series version that could be a Hasbro Pulse exclusive that sells out ridiculously fast, or have cel-shading, or both. I might get this two-pack eventually, but it'll be a while since I'm usually perpetually broke (though thankfully I got Rhino before he sold out), and it will regrettably make my wait for a sold separately Doc Ock figure even longer.

I think it's supposed to look like the hair at the temples has been cut short with clippers and you can see his scalp peeking through the stubble. Kinda like this picture of Frank.

No bendy wire tentacles means I see no reason to drop the money for him, especiallly at the current prices. I like Silk, but not enough that I need a new figure of her.

At this rate if we get a Doc Ock with bendy tentacles it'll certainly be a deluxe which will of course lead to complaints that he's too expensive at that point. This reveal also most likely kills any new comic Ock figures for a good while, they probably wouldn't have done this reissue if a new one was just around the corner. We could get a non-comic Doc Ock with articulated tentacles sometime soon-ish but that would definitely be salt in the wound for comic only collectors.

This already is salt in an open wound to me. I wouldn't have complained about a Deluxe release for Doctor Octopus, but this two-pack version makes it more unlikely. Wouldn't it have made more sense to have a Deluxe Doc Ock for either the Marvel Legends 20th Anniversary wave (since Doc Ock was in Series 8 of the Toy Biz ML toyline) or the Retro Spider-Man wave with bendable wire tentacles? It's been four years since we got a Doc Ock figure and it makes sense to have an Ock figure released for Spidey's 60th anniversary year, since Ock is one of Spidey's oldest and most persistent foes. I just wish this Ock hadn't been released in a two-pack, and likely an expensive one to boot. I would love a No Way Home version of Doc Ock, but if that's the only way we get a Ock with bendy wire tentacles, that will be very, VERY disappointing. I just wish that we'd get new figures for popular characters like classic Spidey, '90s costume versions of the X-Men, classic Captain America, classic Hulk, and so on every two or three years to make it easy for new and old collectors to find them if they missed the previous versions. As we've seen with the Retro waves, classic versions of Marvel characters always sell and usually go for $60 to $150 per figure within a few years. Just look at 2020's Retro Spider-Man and any Jim Lee X-Men character for proof.

Shriek body is nice...but still lacks some vital articulation for a Spider character. The lack of torso range, and no boot or ankle swivel will kill most poses for her.

Otto is really sad, I'd have happily paid deluxe prices for one with bendy tentacles. But $60 for this is just too much sadly.

I saw this pic at Fwoosh: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FOAtQMZX...jpg&name=large And then Dan Yun tweeted that Silk is on the Shriek body and that Doc Ock doesn't have bendy tentacles.

I'm bummed that this is a 2 pack. I may have gotten Silk on the new body, but not with a Doc Ock that I don't need. The lack of bendable tentacles really kills this for me, as most people seem to agree with.

Releases like this Doc Ock and Silk are what drive me back towards third party Transformers.

The fan vote Silk sold out and I didn't have a chance to get it. The fan vote winner. Luckily I have the first release. But hey, here's another chance to get a Silk. Then we see it's in an exclusive 2 pack with a reissue figure that has none of the improvements people want. And most likely all for the new products prices, possibly more. Nevermind to say if this is one of the amazon exclusives that stays in stock or sees big discounts or sells out to be scalped.

We get it. Hasbro is a public company and has to show growth and profit. But these products show just how little effort they put out sometimes. Though to play devils advocate, it's an amazon exclusive, possibly with low margins, so that could be a reason for the low effort. Maybe this year will have more releases that do surprise and excite us. I just wait and see these days.

Wait, what do you mean the Shriek body lacks torso and ankle articulation?

It was likely all of the above. I remember our discussing Vulture receiving a tweak to the wings that was surreptitiously delivered shortly after release, almost like a running change. This iirc was followed up by a reveal of another Venom with Eddie Brock-head on the Hyperion mold and a reveal for the tweaked-paint Mysterio. I'm sure my recall of the order of events is a little wonky, but we engaged in a back and forth that Hasbro was developing a penchant for releasing figs that were slightly off as a strategy to double down on the quick triggers of early adopters.

Looks like the community is catching up to this concept now that it seems to be an all but confirmed phenomenon. That said, people are still requesting redrafts to enable Hasbro's laziness, so go figure. Ha!

I just don't think it has the range in the torso a Spider-Man esque character needs. And I mean a swivel at the foot itself I guess. Think modern Taskmaster, or BAF Apocalypse.
