They seemed to be influenced by the 90s looks where he was more lean, like in the Jim Lee villains piece.

Just saw on SuperHeroHype that Ms. Marvel will premiere on Disney+ on June 8th. I would imagine that we'll see her figure revealed for the next D+ wave around that time since her costume hasn't been kept a secret.
After Ms. Marvel's reveal, that will leave two slots left in the next Disney+ wave. |

I think MCU Khonshu is too big for a standard release. He positively towers over Marc (and not just because Oscar Isaac isn't tall) and he has the big ol' bird skull head. Movie Venom's figure was a solid size but still only measured at around the Colossus/AoA Sabretooth height which is still too short for how tall Khonshu's been on the show (so far anyway).

Yeah, that's a bummer. I just saw this on Preternia.com's Twitter feed. They did mention in another post that the 60th Anniversary Spider-Man figures are getting a $5 mark up similar to the Marvel 80th Anniversary and Infinity Saga figures.

That's why I tacked on the "so far" at the end. He has yet to display that in the show but his size in the comics can change (this seems to be a very common power among gods) so it's not unreasonable to suppose it could happen. I was just noting that three episodes in he's always been supernaturally large.

Edit: I forgot that Doc Ock's ports were split between his upper and lower torso pieces, so actually Walrus would require even more effort than I initially thought.

Everyone sees these things differently, but I imagine Toad as more potbellied than obese. At least Hasbro included a soft midsection rather than ripped abs and the heads are well done.

In reference to that Villans poster, I'd love to see Mesmero and Goblin Queen. Im down with an all X-Villans wave to get the Brotherhood finished off.

It will be sweet to have every updated figure from that Villians Gallery poster.

^ Break dance battle! I was in a break dance battle only once in my life... pretty sure it was a draw though cuz neither of us could do advanced moves like the shoulder roll like the Hydra guy is doing in the pic.

I'm honestly surprised at how many people like that BAF version. He looks nothing from the comics I have read.
Oh well, that means he will still be worth some money even when the new one comes out and that works for me.

I was hoping for more of a Mcfarlane Lizard instead of something Romita-esque. I acknowledge there is the alt head with the teeth and tongue but the sculpt doesn't feel menacing enough to me and since his hands and feet don't have claws it kinda doesn't fit anyway. I never came close to finishing the BAF and I didn't even care to because I really didn't like the Jurassic Park head so if I ever find this new Lizard in stores I'll likely pick him up but I won't go out of my way hunting it either.

“X-Men Annual” 9 and a couple other issues have them visit Asgard. Glad I’m not the only one pulling for Mesmero, I’ve been hoping for him since we got Polaris. And all X-villain wave sounds like an x-cellent idea. What would everyone be hoping for in a line-up? Mine:

Speaking of nostalgia, while I've enjoyed many artists over the years, I've come to a place in my collecting where I no longer need Hasbro to make a figure that looks like the style of a particular illustrator. For example, I respect Kirby as a great talent, but his art has never been my thing and I don't want a fig that mimics his work. The practice is subjective and, in some cases (ugly Hulk-head debacle; a panned attempt to capture Buscema faces) it proves to be problematic. What I'd prefer now is that they simply make something that captures the essence of an iconic look for a character. That normally proves to be enough of a challenge without heaping on expectations that they deliver a faithful translation of my (personal) favorite artist. I honestly think these calls for particular illustrator 'looks', or homages to animated features are resulting in polarized reactions to the final product. The 90's animated X-men figs have just scratched the surface and are already being derided by many/most. I don't really blame Hasbro for this as they were just running with ideas suggested by/or requested by fans. Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 04-20-2022 at 06:44 AM.. |

I'm not surprised at all. Ditko's, Romita's and Andru's representation of the Lizard was dated by the 80's. The early design is corny looking and no amount of nostalgia is going to escape the discernment of certain fans.

It really isn't that confounding or much of an enigma. The old design, while nostalgic for some, simply isn't aesthetically pleasing for others. Another anthropomorphized example is Wolfsbane. I actually do have some fondness for Bob McLeod's original work on New Mutants. However, I'm happy Wolfsbane progressed from simply being illustrated as a dog (it wasn't even a wolf smdh) when in her lupine form. In this scenario, my experience and contentment with the source material doesn't prevent me from accepting (even liking) departures from any first appearance. I get it, there is a certain rigidity within the comic collecting crowd and a deep seated need for things to reflect our first exposure to content, but many fans are a bit more flexible in their take on the matter. There are plenty of scenarios involving storied characters where this applies. I'm happy the Hulk looks different than the character's FA. Same for Iron Man. Moon Knight. Etc.
