That Apocalypse confuses me. First off, why do the animated coloring on a retro card when all of the others are in the VHS boxes? Secondly, what happened to plastic free packages? Like what is the point of having other packages windowless but then go and do this? Third, god dammit, the shoulder pads and headsculpt are way better than the BAF figure version and he comes with effects while giving him inferior colors.

This Apocalypse appears to be trying to appeal to both crowds since he's sporting the cartoon look but without the cel shading that would make him stick out too much in a comic figure display.
Back before they even did the AoA Apocalypse I had voiced an interest in seeing them do a release like this for people who missed the BAF but in execution I'm not sure how I feel about it. It doesn't help that DST announced they're doing Apocalypse a while back and the concept art they shared shows that theirs will be in his standard comic colors.

I've trimming back on my Legends collection recently. I was originally planning to sell my Iron Man 2020 but I l've always like the deco on it so I decided to turn it into a version of the armor that I actually like. After removing all of the "2020" pieces, I put a gloss clear coated on the red bits. I also removed the face plate, paint the eyes and mouth black, and removed the "teeth" from the mouth.
2020 Afterward I made my changes to it. |

Apocalypse is one of my favorite villains, and I've been wanting another alternate look aside from the ToyBiz BAF, the Toybiz regular figure, the Hasbro BAF, and the AOA version. I can see me getting this to mix up the color scheme, but I'm not 100% sold on it.

Think of the first Toybiz figure vs the second one:

Ive noticed there are other people earlier today on the main front page of the News report form for the new "cartoon" Apocalypse where they have been pissing and moaning about the figure.
What would you rather want then, huh? the previous Apocalypse build a figure series is now expensive. You should be lucky and grateful that the new "cartoon" retro style carded Apocalypse will be cheaper and more available to get |

Also, the differences that you point out in the old Toy Biz figs seem more like a progression of improved sculpts rather than some intentional attempt to reflect exacting approximations of Apocalypse. Additionally, Apocalypse's size altering abilities diminish the importance of any perceived slimness, or girth for that matter. Have you noticed the retooled tweaks to the fig's upper body (head design, pigmentation, collar, shoulder pads, corrugated ab section, "A" font on belt, the belt itself, and gauntlets) that reflect exactly the Simonson design? I don't foresee Hasbro having any qualms about reissuing anything, especially given that this will be the third Apocalypse, but you are entitled to your opinion. We'll see if Hasbro holds true to form regarding their penchant for reuse, especially given the number of collectors saying they'd grab this reveal if the colors were tweaked. Hmmm... now that I see how the old toy one was also all blue... I am not digging the retro one being cartoon colors as much.

You think Hasbro matches musculatures and physiques that accurately? I wish they did; I'd have fewer complaints were that the case.

But unlike say Sabretooth, I don't see them ever making a skinny 1st appearance mold for Apocalypse, but instead maybe sometime repainting this one comic blue inaccuracies and all. If even that, most BAFs and larger figures usually get two runs at best and Apocalypse is technically already on version 3.0 now. |

The first ToyBiz figure does represent that early X-Factor era Apocalypse very well, he didn't quite beef up in size and stature until the Jim Lee era got a hold of him (which is represented well by the second ToyBiz figure and literally every Apocalypse figure since).

But none of this has much bearing on Hasbro's tendencies and I agree that, despite the Lizard outlier, Hasbro isn't going to create a new sculpt to cobble a svelte human sized FA Apocalypse. In fact, the details that I pointed out that are idiosyncratic to the character as Simonson illustrated him are a powerful indication, to me, that a quick redraft with the corrected color palette will follow shortly after this XTAS/Retro release. That and Hasbro's unerringly consistent return to familiar wells. Get ready for a 4.0 Apocalypse. Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 06-21-2022 at 08:16 AM.. |

Anybody miss out on the Haslab Galactus and wanna buy mine for the standard price? I'm downsizing my collection and don't really need him, I can just change the shipping address to yours and turn the Hasbro Pulse account over as well, since I can always make another.

I've got no problem with them doing cartoon Apocalypse, but they should have put him in the VHS packaging like the others and did a vintage card one in his classic colors.
You're overthinking it. I was just using those as an example to show how Apocalypse was drawn in the 80s compared to how he was done in the 90s. If you look at Fall of the Mutants, he has a slimmer build compared to say X-Cutioner's Song. I was just point out that to have a true First Appearance Apocalypse figure they would technically need to make him a tad slimmer. Yes, I love the new tooling on this new Apocalypse. I just wish his colors represented his X-Factor colors rather than the cartoon one. It is what it is, but I really think they should have saved the cartoon colors to go with the animated line. |

I preordered Apocalypse from both Pulse and Amazon just in case.
This is weird wording though: Quote:
deco inspired by the character’s classic appearances throughout Marvel Comics

Why do you care? It's semantically meaningless.

Well, decided to walk back my "not for me" statement in regards to Apocalypse. Oddly, the more I look at it, the more I like it. My BAF w/claw is up for grabs is anyone's looking.

Totally agree this Animated Apocalypse is awesome and I'm a little biased as I loved the cartoon and can't wait for the revision.

[QUOTE=Dr Kain;899795]DST? Diamond? Aren't they're Marvel figures like archaic in articulation and prone to breakage?
I have the Silver Centurion and it is a far superior to the Hasbro Marvel Legends. The details and accessories are amazing. It is larger than the ML but I put him in my Avengers shelf which also has Dozer from the Wrecking crew. If anyone needs ML Silver Centurion that has been opened, let me know. |

I ordered the Apocalypse. Maybe the average Legends fan doesn't need to have 7 of him in their collection, but um...I do I guess.
For the record I have: Toy Biz standard size Apocalypse Toy Biz BAF Apocalypse Toy Biz BAF Apocalypse (black arms and leg variant) Hasbro BAF Apocalypse (x2- one with regular hands, one with weapon hands) AoA Apocalypse And this new one makes 7. I think I have a problem. |
