IMO The Sub-Mariner sounds much cooler than Namor... the MCU should just call him The Sub-Mariner. Also hire Jason Momoa too... he can be both Aquaman and The Sub-Mariner.

Speaking of Attuma I find it cool that he (or at least the figure) has what looks like a gunstock war club but also to my knowledge this doesn't fit the Mesoamerican theme since such clubs were only used by indigenous tribes north of the Mesoamerican region.

Everyone has an opinion about how Namor should look in the movie. Discussions like these have been going on since Christopher Reeve put on Superman's cape. He trained with Darth Vader actor David Prowse to add weight and muscle so he would not need padding in his costume. At this point in time, we have not heard the direction the director and producers gave Tenoch Huerta in terms of preparing himself for the movie. Maybe they did not want him to look like Aquaman. I am not going to tear down someone I don't know. He does not look like my Sub-Mariner action figure or like he came from the Marvel Comics I read. MCU has made changes to characters just as other movies have in translating from print to on screen. Let's watch the movie and see his performance.

I intend to stream Black Panther. I'm also buying multiples of the comic canon figs featured in the wave. My druthers have nothing to do with the cinematic choice to draw from and appropriate (heh) Meso culture. This is strictly about whether this actor can physically carry out being Namor.
As well as Hugh Jackman has done in making himself Wolverine, personally, I have never been satisfied with him as Logan. Performance wise? I'm unequivocal in my praise of him, but it always comes with the caveat that he is a miscast due to his stature and build. This opinion only deepened when he started weight training in earnest. I respected his efforts because I know what it takes in the way of sacrifice to transform your body. However, ironically, he developed a physique more appropriate for Namor given his height and the way in which he put on muscle. I actually hoped they'd consider a recast and rebirth for him as Namor in the MCU; pipedream, of course. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter because I'm not hugely invested in the MCU. I'm also not an African American that places cultural importantance on a franchise not controlled by my community, nor am I deeply invested in one that doesn't directly generate any real wealth for our demographic. I just like the character Marvel made, along with Namor and have preferences for the ways in which they're delivered. These preferences aren't over the top and they aren't exclusionary. What they are is more representational of my conditions for a transactional relationship with Marvel. You want me to buy the figure? Make it canon. You want me to see your movie at boxoffice? Take more time to cast properly and don't stray too far (I'm flexible) from the source. Otherwise, I'll keep it pushing. Also, it's time to recast Black Panther. I already have half a dozen actors in mind that I think can pull it off. Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 07-26-2022 at 01:16 PM.. Reason: Fixes to comments about Panther franchise |

Boy this topic has generated a lot of discussion. I'm simple. I see a hot dude in a green speedo with wings on his legs and I'm in.

You think a chubby hispanic dude with lower back flab looks "hot"? I don't know nor care what gender you are but wow, you got low expectations of what you consider "hot". Luke Evans should have been cast as Namor, and yeah, I know he's gay, that doesn't matter to me, he fit the look of Namor. He's already a fit guy and could easily have buffed up more for the role by packing on another 15lbs of muscle. Bottom line is the character was miscast & the wrong actor was cast in the played out game of diversity. This movie just went from paying to see it to waiting for it to hit Redbox & using my 75 cent off code to rent it for 85 cents. |

I seems like Hasbro has satisfied everyone tastes a little. Did some comic figures that I will be getting mostly, and some of their MCU figures are getting better with practice, to the point, that I sometimes will consider buying and MCU, when in the past I would have walked by all the MCU figures.
Note: Nobody at Hasbro second guessed presenting that Namor figure? Really? Hasbro gets a few bucks from for years now, so I already a sucker, but Namor just looked so rushed in his making.

Question about Daredevil - was the last classic (i.e. red costume) ML the one in the 2015 Hobgoblin BAF wave? I know we've had the 90's armor and black ANAD versions but was that the most recent red outfit version?

Ah cool thanks, strange we haven't had a classic red suit DD since 2017 then! Wonder if we will get one in the Spider-Man Retro line to go with the armor suit/the cel shaded Spider-Man and X-Men?

I don't have a dog in this hunt really...I'll see the movie regardless. If it gets us a comic based Attuma, Namora or Orca then I'll be one happy collector! I hope the movie is good enough to entertain my 10 year old inner kid but I won't lose any sleep over the casting choices. I think Eternals had a great cast but it really fell flat to me. I was a casual Eternal fan from when I was 10 so my expectations were low. I hope for some great action and fight scenes in WF. That's just my two cents. |

Jesus… outside of the aforementioned Defenders boxset, yeah. We could really use a new classic hornhead, especially with all the other great updates to A & B-listers Hasbro’s given us in the last few years. What buck would people want him on? I’d personally be happy with Vulcan, since I’ve always had him in my head as roughly Black Panther’s size (their awesome team-ups in the silver age are definitely responsible for that).

2 poached DC talents - Yahya Abdul-Mateen II - Aldis Hodge A trio of Brits - John Boyega - Micheal Ward - Sope Dirisu Denzel's son (although he's a short dude) - John David Washington And since I included a short actor, I'll add one more Brit rapper/actor - Ashley Walters I'd be surprised if anyone agreed with this, but that's never stopped me... |

I totally want John David Washington in the MCU, but not as T'Challa. His talents would be wasted. Same with Lakeith Stanfield. That dude is amazing in everything he does no matter how shitty the material is that he is given. If Marvel ever went for an older Miles Morales, I think he would be perfect.

Edit: I just read an article suggesting calls for Black Panther to be recast have a sexist undercurrent. While that could definitely be the truth somewhere, I've wanted a recast since Chadwick's passing. Shuri's stint as Black Panther was cool, but brief. I view this upcoming film as more than just a stopgap and have a healthy amount of curiosity regarding how they develop Shuri. However, I also want T'Challa to return to the screen so that I can see the exploits that made me a fan played out on screen. Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 07-27-2022 at 12:36 PM.. |

To my understanding it's already been declared (and heavily implied by the trailer) that T'challa is dead going into this movie. It seems a sign of respect to Boseman's passing but it does also sting that the movies are just outright losing this character. Now with the movies leaning more and more into the outlandish fantasy seen in the comics we could technically see T'challa return in the future but I don't think we're quite yet at the point of the typical comic book convoluted resurrection that would allow for a recast. They could do an alternate universe version but based on the movies' current handling of the multiverse this wouldn't be a permanent replacement and just a guest role.
Obviously don't let me stop you from fan-casting and discussing the merits of actors. They also revealed High Evolutionary for GotG 3, there wasn't a toy or anything (hence we didn't have people tearing that look apart here) it was just Chukwudi Iwuji in costume back during comic-con.

Yes, I noticed as well, however, with the Skrull Invasion coming up there's plenty of opportunity for chicanery. How well this BP movie does will determine whether they pull a wildcard.
And, yes, it would be a crying shame to let languish a character with such depth and obvious boxoffice appeal. It would actually be quite stupid. Edit: A couple of additional thoughts about why High Evolutionary drew little response beyond there being no toy to showcase: - SDCC post Covid has just not been the same; similar can be said for many live in-person events - GotG popularity might be waning a bit; good timing for Gunn to return - High Evolutionary's fanbase, even here, seems to be you and I lol, so he just may not register with many, nor draw passionate rebukes/praise - The outfit is inoffensive, drab even (I just looked), again, not enough to provoke response Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 07-27-2022 at 02:13 PM.. |

We agree, Nite. I respect their marking his passing, but I tend to believe that Chadwick would have wanted otherwise. I anticipate that they will end up privately regretting the decision, if they don't already.

Also I will absolutely concur with what you and others have said on T’Challa … it seems like a waste of one of Marvel’s greatest heroes not to recast him, as immense as Boseman was. Some of my first Marvel comics were the “Jungle Action” “Panther’s Rage” storyline, so it breaks my heart to think that I don’t get to see more of him… especially with the impending arrival of several of his greatest allies (FF, Daredevil) in the MCU. |
