I originally had no intention of getting this guy, but my $40 in Target rewards meant I didn't have to pay a cent, so I couldn't resist:
Quote:
For me, the only surprises were Red Guardian and Winter Soldier being on the team. The others were 'usual' members of Thunderbolts at various times. Plus we're looking at the 'official, currently announced team' that doesn't include anyone joining up mid-story or any additions that they didn't want to spoil yet due to plot from upcoming shows.
That said, I'd buy new figures of everyone but Bucky since it looks like he's just wearing the same thing from F&TWS. Also, really, four characters from Black Widow?

Just to chime in on the Thunderbolts reveal, it's not my ideal line up, but the MCU doesn't leave a lot of bad guys around to play with after the movie they pop up in. Most seem to die. So I'll take this line, even if it's not ideal.
What seems to be happening more and more with the MCU is name slapping. They take the name of a comic event, comic team or something else from a comic and slap it onto a live action project. While I thoroughly enjoyed Thor: Ragnarok, it most definitely wasn't the comic story. Same with Age of Ultron. I doubt the upcoming Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars will reflect to the source material. That's what I feel like is happening with the Thunderbolts. The central idea is there (maybe), but how many of them were on the original line up? Granted, in the comics Ghost, Yelena, Taskmaster, Bucky, and US Agent have all eventually joined, but it's not what I think that team is best known as. Maybe I'm wrong. At the same time, I'm feeling less and less hype for anything coming out of the MCU. I enjoyed Ms. Marvel, but I hated Moon Knight. I'm not fond of She-Hulk either. I'm not trying to shame anyone who likes this stuff, please don't view this as an attack. Maybe I'm just feeling burnt out. |

I wonder if we are getting another Infinity Saga wave this year? I really want an Armored movie Heimdall.

People have said the same thing about every annual sub-line since they started with the MCU First Ten Years and so far it's never happened. This year's theme is Spider-Man's 60th anniversary so getting non-Spidey MCU stuff there is most unlikely.

Speaking of 60th anniversaries where is the love for Thor and Hulk this year from the legend team. It's both their 60th anniversary this year besides Spider-Man.

As for Hulk, I'd love a Bi-Beast or a new comic accurate Smart Hulk. And A Joe Fixit/Wolverine 2 pack! Heck, reuse the Gamerverse BAF Abomination body and give him a comic head (like so many people have already done). |

I agree with Spyne98, I wanted some Marvel Legends waves for Hulk and Thor this year. Sure, Thor got a 'Love and Thunder' movie wave, but I was hoping for some comic-based Thor figures too. Since Captain America didn't get an 80th anniversary Marvel Legends wave, I can't say I'm surprised, but I am still very disappointed. Characters like the Warriors Three, Balder, Eric Masterson Thor, classic Beta Ray Bill, the Absorbing Man and so on are long overdue. As far as the Hulk goes, I'm keeping my fingers crossed we'll see a new wave with figures like Doc Samson, She-Hulk, Ringmaster, Tyrannus, the Leader in his orange-and-black suit, and a classic lab coat Bruce Banner. I'm also hoping we'll see more Deluxe, sold-separately Hulk figures like a Kirby-esque green Hulk with purple shorts, Merged/Professor Hulk in his brown jumpsuit, Worldbreaker Hulk, and a better Joe Fix-It. A classic Abomination and a better classic green savage Hulk with better hair and face sculpts would be great too.
I am still stunned by how underwhelming the Marvel Legends waves have turned out to be for 2022. I was really hoping for better waves and figures. I'm also still scratching my head at some of the decision making, like not giving Siryn an alternate screaming head, putting holes in the shield of the Marvel Legends 20th Anniversary Captain America figure, having Amazon's Doc Ock figure be a two-pack with Silk with the static tentacles and having the plastic of the body mold be inferior to the 2018 version, and making characters like the Lizard a Wal-Mart exclusive. 2023 needs some really cool waves and figure reveals in order to get my excitement, and money, back. I was hoping we'd see Marvel Legends anniversary waves in 2024 for "Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars" for its 40th anniversary and "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" (without cel-shading, please!) for its 30th anniversary, but at the rate Hasbro keeps skipping anniversaries like this, I'm not exactly holding my breath it would happen. I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to see figures made for characters like Monica Rambeau's Captain Marvel, 70s Cyclops, Hawkeye, an improved sold-separately Hulk, '80s suit Rogue, the Absorbing Man, Molecule Man, Titania and any of the Wrecking Crew for a "Secret Wars" wave with characters like Captain America with an alternate broken shield, Jim Rhodes' Iron Man, brown-and-tan suit Wolverine, a new classic figure and/or Beyonder Doom figure for Doctor Doom, a sold-separately Doc Ock with bendable wire tentacles, and a sold-separately classic Magneto. If we did get a "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" Retro wave, I hope we'll get an animated series Spider-Man figure sold in all stores and on all websites, unlike the Wal-Mart con figure that came and went in the blink of an eye this July. I'd also love to see new figures of fan-favorite villains like the Kingpin, Mysterio, Doctor Octopus with bendy wire tentacles, the Rhino, the Shocker, Venom, the Hobgoblin, the Chameleon, Morbius the Living Vampire, and a Deluxe Alistair Smythe with his hoverchair. Having a few civilian characters get new figures for the wave and/or Fan Channel releases like Peter Parker, J. Jonah Jameson, Felicia Hardy and Mary Jane Watson would be great too. Heck, having Spider-Man animated figures of characters like Nick Fury, Herbert Landon (in honor of the late, great David Warner), the Punisher, Daredevil, Electro and the Fantastic Four would be cool too! Am I alone in thinking this? Last edited by StuartGreen2019; 09-14-2022 at 10:44 AM.. |

Been a busy week at Pulse. My Iron Spider Men, Future foundation Spider Men, Spider Men and Spinnerets, Knulls/Venoms and my 60th Spidey have all arrived. And MCU Ned & Pete might arrive before the weekend in addition to a notice for Quake.
Quake bodes well for an earlier, I hope, ship date for my "Blue Marvel wave". AND....Pulse sent a notice that Galactus is almost here! Annnnnd my 'all-in' wave for Four Horsemen's Illythia kickstarter arrived on Sunday. HIP! HIP! |

But, yeah, most of the haul's been hauled already with the exception of the Blue Marvel and friends, and, of course, Galactus. For me, Hasbro's 2022 is going quite well, figure-wise. Pricing is a completely different matter. Since these prices are here to stay, I'm hoping the precipitous drop in customers/revenue will encourage them to pare down (number of figs) and go the deluxe route offering more (i.e. heads/hands/effects). That is a rather epic haul list. I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with for Galactus photos.
Your post made me curious as to how many unfulfilled orders and their grand total that I have presently sitting with Hasbro. That would be 14 orders, containing 29 pieces for a grand total ($300 of this is the Classified HISS) of $1,385.72. My oldest of those pre-orders will turn 1 year old on 10/23. I am semi afraid to check how much more I have tied up with BBTS, Kickstarter pledges, 4 Horsemen, etc. For someone who swore he was going to either fully step away from action figures or at the least drastically pare down his spending, I appear to be failing in epic style. So like, what ever happened to the 20th anniversary line?
I thought it was supposed to be like 13 figures or something.

The murmurings I've heard are that this isn't a special sub-line (like the Infinity Saga or Spidey's 60th) but will continue gradually over time like how they've continued to release the retro-style cardback figures. Unless those rumors were wrong and it really is just the 4 from the first wave, in which case I guess it's a wrap.

Anyway, I got my AF15 Spider-Man from Pulse today. No issues with the paint job on the head, so now I've got that one in my detolf for display purposes while the other is going to be for pictures and just having fun with. I also think I'm going to trim the extra extended webwings a bit so I can have three display options with them instead of two. I do wish the webbing he came with was a bit more mutable rather than the loosy goosy thing it is. Still haven't heard back from Pulse in regard to replacing Toad.

The rest of the figures are all the retro fan channel stuff we’ve been getting: Firelord, Apocalypse, Beast, Scorpion, Rhino, War Machine, etc. Those were all codenamed Yellow 5 through Yellow 12, after the wave 1 series was Yellow 1 to 4. The rumors were never definitive on more tribute figures, just that there was an anniversary series with 12 figures. In fact, pretty early on the whole line-up was rumoured (with only two mistakes: the 3.75” sentinel being part of the 6” line and Ghost Rider being another Cap) and it quickly became hard to see how anything beyond the first four could be tributes.

Otherwise, like Blue Marvel said, I've gotten a number of pre-orders in myself. Iron Spider, the Renew Your Vows 2 pack, Venom & Knull and Toad have all recently arrived. Venom's wings are freaking huge! I may not be able to display him with them as they won't fit on that shelf. I may have to rearrange. |

@Spyne98 - Even the Spider-Man anniversary line was underwhelming to me, and Spider-Man's my favorite comic book hero! I felt cheated by the lack of new classic villains, too many alternate Spider-Men, making the cool characters like Lizard exclusive to one store, and making most of the offerings based on more modern stories I didn't like and buy (with the exception of "Renew Your Vows"). Since we got the re-release of Doc Ock on a cheaper plastic body mold with the static tentacles and two versions of classic Venom in two different multi-packs, my chances of owning sold-separately figures of classic Doctor Octopus and Venom are pushed back considerably, which is really infuriating. I was also hoping we'd get some kind of Retro Doc Ock this year before Hasbro goes with the plastic-free packaging, since he's one of the few A-list members of Spider-Man's rogues gallery who hasn't had a Retro release.
Also, it'd be pretty disappointing if Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man and Toad are it for the Marvel Legends 20th anniversary line. Then again, we only got four figures for the 2000 X-Men movie line, so I wouldn't be surprised. I'm still hoping we'll get some kind of 2000 X-Men movie figures re-visit in the future. I would easily buy updated figures of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Halle Berry's Storm, Ian McKellen's Magneto, Anna Paquin's, Famke Janssen's Jean Grey, James Marsden's Cyclops, Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler, Shawn Ashmore's Iceman and Kelly Hu's Deathstrike. Since 'X2' has its 20th anniversary next year, maybe they'll surprise us with a few more figures for it? As a side note, I hope Hasbro has better 60th anniversary plans for the Avengers and the X-Men than they did with Spider-Man. I don't want the X-Men wave to pull a Spider-Man wave on us and just give collectors and fans a ton of different versions of Wolverine (though I wouldn't mind an Astonishing suit update, a classic blue-and-yellow X-Men uniform version, and a classic brown-and-tan suit with the X belt buckle). I'm also hoping we'll get updated sold-separately, non cel-shaded versions of the Jim Lee era X-Men that I missed out on previously, like Cyclops (with an optic blast this time, please, Hasbro), Jean Grey, Sabretooth, and a new Gold Team version of Colossus. |

I am in fully agreement here! We all know I love Legends, but this year hasn't felt as special overall. Maybe it's the Spider-Man anniversary subline? There could be so many characters, but instead we're getting a whole lot of Spider-Mans. And yeah, some of the accessory decisions have been strange. You pretty much covered all the one that I would have said. I think the only thing I'd add are the seemingly random use of peg/pegless bodies.
Nevertheless, the wave as a whole sucked and was almost as bad as the Tri-Sentinel one. I just don't get why we have had every Giant Sized member for like 2 years now except Banshee. And why they have yet to tackle Avalanche and Destiny. I expected more out of the Spider-Man anniversary, but at least there have been a lot of great figures I've wanted with Rhino, AF15 Spidey, and the upcoming Toei version along with classic Lizard. As cool as that is, why not tackle other guys who haven't had figures before like the Enforcers, Cardiac, Belladonna, etc? Hell, why didn't they go all out with an animated Hobgoblin with an updated body that comes with the giant ass glider? I would have been willing to drop the money on that. Overall, this is hands down the worst year for ML since I started collecting the line in 2016.

This isn't the worst year of Marvel Legends IMO, but I know people are prone to hyperbole and often suffer from recency-bias. The Return of Marvel Legends 2012 and 2013 featured some pretty weak waves. This sort of grousing seems to always happen when there's divergence from the most popular wells, or waves don't contain enough conventionally coveted characters. When there's not enough X-men, or Avengers, or not enough of a selection of widely known characters that roll off the tongue, I start reading things like 'worst wave ever', or 'terrible year'. 2022's selection isn't horrible, the figs just happen to be B-side dial-ups, which works for me because I'm a b-side type of guy.
It was just a few months ago on this thread that people were praising Hammerhead, Shocker, and Symbiote Spider Man. The Spider Man from the Spidey/Spinneret 2pk is being heralded as possibly the best Spidey fig to date, Iron Spider has also been lauded along with the 60th Spidey, and Knull is cool. Additionally, fans are waiting anxiously for their googly eyed Lizard, with even myself planning a pick up. Retro Havok was also well received here and an improved US Agent, Madame Hydra/Viper, Speedball (to fill out the New Warriors) and Quake were talked up as welcome additions. I have a Blue Marvel coming along with (and more importantly) GALACTUS, a new Silver Surfer (slightly unnecessary IMO; I had zero problems with the head of the previous iterations), Nova, and MORG. As far as the MCU wares are concerned, the movies haven't been performing that well and the purchase of those figs is largely contingent on the popularity of the films. I could go on, but I'll summate with the notion that fans need to pump the brakes when trashing this year. It ain't that bad and most of this grousing represents hyperbolic and reactionary sentiment. What's 'bad' this year are these prices (which is also playing a role in the complaints), not the selections because there's still a little bit for everybody....just a little bit more for me! HAHAHA! |

Hence why I said "since I started collecting the line in 2016."
I don't know get why people think the 2 pack Spidey is the best Spidey ever though. The toe articulation isn't THAT amazing. The Amazing Fantasy version is what I consider close to being the best right now (it will be a Romita Sr/Andru repaint of it that becomes the best). I definitely want Madame Hydra, but given how much hate she is getting, she's easily going to pegwarm and get discounted, so I'm canceling my preorders for her and waiting for her price to drop.

Lol FYI: 2016 wasn't a barn burner either. Outside of the Juggernaut wave, there were many complaints about selections that year as well. That was the year that featured BAF waves for space Venom, the Abomination, and the 'wrong' Onslaught. The entire year was an adventure of odd combinations and costume choices askew of fan wants; the 'Raft' Electro, female Beetle, Udon Task Master, canon Red Guardian, Cottonmouth, Eel (all of which I was happy for, but not many others), etc. So, again, pump the brakes.

Everyone is making some valid points. I personally think the worst years were when we had like 3 two pack a year for legends and that was it. It really seemed like the line was dead. But that all depends on when you started collecting. I've been doing this for 20 years. It might be the recent price increase too that makes things feel not as worth while, but that's just me. I don't expect everyone to agree.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am looking forward to the HasLab announcement today. I hope they take a page from the HISS Tank and give us early incentives. I'm hoping we get a Danny Ketch at some point! |

Whether you like a winged Venom or not it's very impressive that he can stand with these MASSIVE wings attached. I love this set.
