COSMIC MARVEL FANS REJOICE!!!
Rom is coming as Marvel has just regained the rights for the character. This is very good news for me and I can’t wait for the Legends team to deliver a long, long, long awaited fig for me. My first and last Rom fig was from 1979! Lol I’m pretty excited: https://www.gamesradar.com/rom-space...arly-40-years/ |

@Spyne I know this is a dial-up for the older heads in the hobby, but I’m hoping the IDW book from a few years back and that SDCC 2017 fig will be enough to inspire the Legends team to pull the trigger.

I'm still waiting on a ML Conan ever since his Marvel return but a ML Rom seems far more likely since I believe Hasbro own that outright and they've made a modern Rom figure already several years back.
And its be cool if this starts the ball rolling for other Marvel licensed titles from that era to finally get reprinted like Micronauts and Shogun Warriors. The Micronauts' lic. was exactly where my mind went as I was reading the Gamesradar article. Micronauts is a deep need for me that harkens back to my young childhood (along with Rom) where all of my interests in toys, toons, sci-fi and comics blended together. You’ve layered it even further with Shogun. Force Five aired in New England when I was a kid and this is foundational nostalgia for me. What if Hasbro actually ventured a Red Ronin as a Haslab to tribute Shogun Warriors (since the Marvel mech was based on their designs)? Or, Hasbro could go all out and simply remake the Shogun Warriors as their own Haslabs…oh, the possibilities. Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 05-23-2023 at 09:59 AM.. |

Haha! Yeah, I appreciate where you are coming from, but, as a quick heads up, Hasbro made the old Blob BAF as well.
I think this comes up because there are still some Toy Biz figs that do a better job of capturing an iconic (completely subjective) look for whatever character it may be. While many of these figs haven’t aged well from a contemporary standards standpoint, due to choices in interpretation and instances of unique tooling/detailing, the older versions sometimes maintain a foothold in the psyche of collectors. It seems more common with iconic villains like Sandman, Rhino, Mysterio, and Shocker; figures that lingered on many personal displays despite technically “superior” (‘newer’) versions being available on shelves. Larger figures also seem to have greater longevity. It wasn’t until the 80th Hulk that I was willing to retire some of my ToyBiz Hulks, but I will likely never let go of any of them even if they are all remade - something I want given Hasbro’s sincere efforts with the new Hulk design. Back to the Blob and my opinion that it’s a wash between the two figures. I have always considered the grotesqueness of the Blob to be the point of Dukes' visual manifestation. When I encountered him in comics, he was usually depicted as inhumanly massive with rolls and mounds of undulating cellulite, so much so that a hero could be caught fast in his massive girth. This Blob looks… polite. Which, in my opinion, is just stupid. However, I like ‘good-looking’-Blob too, I just didn’t need him, or ‘lateral promotion’-MODOK. That said, I got them both as they fit better with their contemporaneous linemates than do the older versions. Quote:
Toy Biz never made a Blob BAF. That old Blob BAF was one of Hasbro's early offerings when they took over the license. IMHO, the newer Hasbro version slays their older one.
I get what you're saying...and agree with most of it, but there are still a few Toybiz Legends that I feel hold up (and in some cases...are equal to even better) to their Hasbro counterparts. Up until the recent Ultimate Captain America, I still felt that Toybiz's series 1 was as good of a Cap there's ever been. The colors , shield, and headsculpt were perfect, even the tribute Cap fell short. I have similar feelings for Series 4 Punisher (the Riders version was good...but I don't feel like Hasbro has quite done Frank right yet) and the Seies 7 Apocalypse (as well as his Build A Figure counterpart) are near perfect representations outside those hideous hip ball joints. The Toybiz Sentinel is a work of art...and even though the Haslab was super cool...I can't honestly say it's better than it. (Bigger doesn't exactly mean better...especially when the wobbly knees keep mine from standing properly.) My Haslab Sentinel is Mastermold in my collection, while my Toybiz versions are the primary foe to my X-Men. My opinions only of course...but again...I won't disagree with you on the majority of what you said. Especially on the female character side of things. Though I wonder if the artists at Toybiz had access to a lot of the digital sculpting and painting techniques that Hasbro has these days, if we would feel the same way. Always fun to speculate...✌️ Quote:
The new release is much better in all respects. The baf version was always a bit too grotesque for me. My ideal blob figure would be more akin to his original appearance or the John Byrne version for the first couple volumes of the Handbook. Basically, 6 foot, 500 pound, "extra strong freak".

Yeah man, my pleasure. You were sincere in your ask, so I'm happy to oblige likewise.

Lol Yeah, man, I’m happy like a little kid over here! I used to practice drawing Spaceknights “neutralizing” wraiths as a child! Now that I think on it, their “banishment to limbo” was presented as horrific violence with a euphemistic sprinkling of, “oh yeah, they’re just being sent to another plane of existence.” Yeah sure, that’s what’s happening here: |

I recently re-read the entire ROM comics and I realised the stupendous talents of Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema. Incredible pathos to his character. I would be happy beyond to get a decent figure of him. Id love an original Starshine too.
I’m not a hundred per cent sure, but wasn’t Shogun Warriors based on Mazinger Z and the Go Nagai comics? I own most Mazinger metal toys which are exceptional, but I loved that Red Ronin (and didn’t the FF battle one as well?) story where Beast and Jocasta get inside of him. I would have to get this, but I have no idea where the rights are for Red Ronin. I would for sure buy one. I just love robots. As for the Micronauts, I still believe is one of the best space operas out there in comic form. The stories were amazing and the designs, just beautiful. Maybe one day Marvel will recapture the magic from those books. My ideal line up would be two packs like: -Arcturus Rann and Marionette. -Acroyear and Cilicia. -Bug and Jasmine -Biotron and Microtron -Force Commander and Slug -Devil and Fireflyte -Huntarr and Prince Pharoid -Baron Karza and Time Traveller And why not, Scion and Solitaire. Shaitan would be very welcome with some centaur or Repto too. This could definitely be its own series. These designs were just fantastic and involved with so much pathos. I dream these great characters would one day get their due. But I have nothing to say about Nanotron. I chose to forget about her (but secretly I would still get her). |

A few months ago (I think following the Starlord reveal) I made a glib comment about the Legends team serving up contrition-releases following a disastrous Haslab and heaping amounts of fan animus generated by price increases, windowless boxes (which still don’t bother me because I buy everything online/sight unseen), and tepid production efforts. I’m convinced of it now and I'm very happy for it! It appears that Hasbro is finally glomming onto which era of comic fans is actually buying the lion’s share of their products and I’m here for it! Keep going Legends team, I look forward to more bronze age fan service. The 90’s anything is an easy choice. The X-men are also a no-brainer. But this dial-up demonstrates sophistication IMO and a deeper understanding/pinpointing of who’s buying this shit. Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 05-24-2023 at 09:58 AM.. |

This is fantastic and it represents my interests to a tee, all the way down to EXACTLY the Hank Pym I’ve wanted for YEARS! LOL “Speed-suit” Pym, just as Dr. Venture so astutely instructed Dean, represents the epitome of “super-scientist!” I know many people that didn’t care for this suit during the initial run. Hell, I didn’t as a kid either, but now that I have developed finer tastes as an adult, I’m all over this and have wanted it since RoML. Yellowjacket, which I also want, can be the wider release, but this set’s version is the deep-cut that I most wanted as a collector. Additionally, now that we’ve the proper Mockingbird, I’ll order the upcoming Hawkeye. They should’ve teased this reveal sooner. And they fixed Iron Man’s coloring - a tweak that I wanted and expected, but now I get what I want, while others who don’t care about my persnickety needs won't have to buy it for a BAF part. There’re things to complain about, but on balance, I find this to be a great set and it was delivered exactly as it should be – in a set….now for the price.

The set looks good, but it's so weird they put in Spider Woman with this set. She didn't come along until the last quarter of the run. I know, Safari Jacket Wonder Man is out now or is soon to be, as well as Hawkeye, so you can complete the original group at least. I guess though that they had to go with a 5 pack, and SW made the most sense. I wish they'd gone with Living Lightening personally (I know, he appears even later in the run that SW).
Even though the set looks good, I'll probably pass or at least wait for a sale. Maybe if I hadn't already gotten Tigra I might feel differently. Mockingbird and Pym are the main wants for me here, and I'm not sure if I want them all that much. Maybe I'll just take my chances and wait for a sale, and if that never happens then I was never meant to own it. |

The point I want to high-light particularly is your notion that these are a capitulation. When you brought up that point around the release of Star-Lord, I took it as, like you said, a “glib comment.” But the offerings this year do feel like an adjustment in terms of character selection. I would be curious if the overall sales figures are reflective of my anecdotal habits, because I have bought or pre-ordered more figures this year than the past three combined! It certainly feels like a return to form. If the Bronze Age focus is here to stay, I will be overjoyed, as that is my sweet spot for characters, costumes, & nostalgia. Does anyone else feel like the lack of Wasp in this 60th anniversary soiree is getting really noticeable? |

Not a lot to add here except to agree with everything said, especially the “Venture Bros.” reference. One of my all-time favorite series.

Secondly, I would also very much like to know if my assumption is anywhere near true regarding Bronze age fans filling the void for the more fair-weather movie fans that have become less enthused for whatever (pick one) reason. My contention is that if Hasbro pivots hard to fan service for Bronze age fans (who happen to also be Copper age fans because many of us continued reading well into adulthood) they might emerge from all of this with an even stronger fanbase of collectors that might not balk at deluxe pricing provided they are delivering the characters and looks we want with accessories and improved QC. |

I’m still hoping there’d a classic Wasp in the works. We know damn well Hasbro is gonna do a gold repaint of the 1st appearance Iron Man, so maybe they have a Silver Age Avengers box set cooking up.

I just hope it bodes well for other teams of the same era like the New Mutants, despite Hasbro mentioning them specifically as unlikely. Of Wasp, this custom I saw on the Fwoosh recently is exactly what I am hoping to see (preferably with an alternate head): Edit: good gosh am I excited for that Spider-Man game! Avengers gets a 5 pack, 4 of the 5 figures are pineless with new bodies. Spider-Man and X-Men get 5 packs, maybe 1 figure gets pinless joints.

I received Kid Omega and Corsair today, and they are great figures. I was never a huge fan of Kid Omega, but the figure is sharp looks nice. Corsair is a masterpiece for me. I loved the character growing up, and proxied other figures for him. To get a Corsair figure this nice truly made my day.

Man, you all know me by now. I don't like to crap on Hasbro but this is a garbage set. Tigra literally looks like the same exact release as the single card one from last year. I feel like the Walgreens Silver Centurion has much better paint apps. I'll survive with the old Julia Spider-Woman from the Far from home wave. I don't care about codename-less Pym. All I want there is Mockingbird, but I'm not dropping the money for this set. Mockingbird doesn't even have double jointed elbow. It's probably due to her costume sleeves, but still. Hasbro has some balls to do this.

I should say that I don't think the set is bad. I may have overreacted yesterday. I was thinking of waiting for it to go on clearance too. I might be cool to have a West Coast team on my shelf.

Back of the box for the WCA boxset:
For one, I really do love the artwork. What a beautifully designed package. But more importantly, I noticed something really exciting on the background art: 1st appearance Miss Marvel & classic Wasp are prominently visible, and are the only imaged characters without Marvel Legends counterparts. Please please please let this be a teaser for future releases. |
