Greg Land's Edge of spider-verse # 2 spider-gwen variant is still to this day a big Money book. i don't really see any problem with his art. you want to vomit check out both the 2015 and the current Silk series. artist Stacey Lee just makes the series looks like crap in my eyes. all cartoony and very anime like. Another very crude looking comic that makes me cringe is Squirrel girl with artist Erica henderson.... i can not understand the fascination with this series but it's a seller.
Now comparing both Stacey lee and Erica hendersons's art to Greg Land's REAL BIG DIFFERENCE.... I see people complain about Land on forums all the time, he's forced onto customers as a launch artist on a series people were previously looking forward to. Look back through some of his work that you have, and you'll see panel after panel after panel that are exactly the same throughout, and were traced from either a Pamela Anderson pin-up, or porn to begin with. Stacey Lee and Erica Henderson might draw exaggerated and cartoonish art, but at least they can say that they've drawn it. Greg Land is worse than Michael Bay, and THAT'S saying something. |

I display him without the backpack but he is still very top heavy by design and the ankles are loose. I think this might just be mine with the ankle problem because I've seen others standing just fine. Even leaning against the wall it's still my favorite Venom toy for capturing the McFarlane look so well. He also gets points for surviving more than one fall (*looks to over a dozen McFarlane toys who've fallen to their death*).

As I say, in Uncanny X-Men #1 I could spot at least four panels which Greg Land has drawn numerous times. Chief among which are panels of women, with porn-tussled hair, looking like they've reached a climax. Greg Land continues to get work despite his infamy, and the only reason being that Marvel always puts him on books that people want.

Well, yeah. Lee and Henderson draw their panels. Land traces like 107% off his art from photos, porn, or other artists.
There's a difference between art that's not your cup of tea, and art that's friggin' traced. Sure, it's gussied up with detailed linework and awesome coloring, but it's still like an Instagram filter on a photocopy. Considering i sell comics on the side, so i do alot of research on what's selling and so fourth. If greg land's art is so shitty, why is fetching big bucks on ebay? Edge of spider-verse # 2 variant, there was a Supergirl variant he made a few years back, now that's starting to pick up steam. As far as im concerned as a business prospective, i would think both marvel and DC want a artist who's going to get people running out to comic shops to buy that particular cover. regardless if his images are always with girls who have messy hair. sex sells.... ![]() Edit to add to your other point: I think part of why the people who do like his work is because it does have a sense of realism to it. I guess that's what happens when your inspiration is a real picture/video. I think we need a wave of ML figures based artistic representations: diamond shaped or feetless people including big muscles for men and a stick like torso for women, and another wave where every character has the same mold and an O face. And another wave based off that UXM run where every character looked manga, I think that was during Austen's run. |

Okay fair enough. We'll have to agree to disagree on our opinion of his sources. I just wish there was some variety to his art.

Greg Land tracing? Preposterous!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And I don't think it'd be appropriate to show the source for this tracing: ![]() Edit: I always hated how weird magneto's helmet looked in Marvel Zombies, and now I see it's 'cause Greg Land was too lazy to even change the shape of the helmet from the image he swiped! ![]() |

Yep, there it is. Quesada is even on record as starting that part of the reason he continues to give Land work is because "he turns things in on time." Y'know, because he traces.

Bringing it back to ML talk, I snagged a cheap Thanos wave Hawkeye on Amazon that should be coming today - less than $10....thanks amazon prime! Don't know why I felt the need the other one I have is perfectly fine.....what's this I always talk about redos?
edit: I meant Odin wave not Thanos. Last edited by Captain Nash; 01-15-2016 at 11:51 AM.. |

Dude, the Amazon prices are hard to top. The only thing better than using Prime for them is price-matching. When I have the time and money's a little more free, I'm gonna grab myself a Hellcat from TRU and a Machine Man. I'd order them both online, but with Hellcat's quality control on her paint, I'd rather just price-match her.

I think the loose leg joints on that Venom figure is pretty common. I learned a little trick a while back that tightened up the joints on my MS Venom. There is a clear liquid floor polish made by Pledge called Future. It's $6 or $7 a bottle but that amount should last you a long, long time if you're just using it on figures. You just need to use an eye dropper and put a couple of drops onto the joint that needs to be tightened. Wipe away any excess floor polish that gets outside of the joint because it has a glossy finish when it dries and you probably don't want little shiny spots on your figures. After you drip the floor polish into the joint, work the joint back and forth a few times. That will make sure the floor polish gets all the way into the joint. Then just let it sit over night and the joint should be tighter and hold a pose better after that. Hope this helps.

On a related to topic note, The Ultimates is quickly becoming my favourite comic of All-New Marvel. I would not say no to an SDCC themed pack. |

Honestly, I'm having trouble putting them down. I forced myself to put away almost the entire wave in the storage bin, but Beetle stays out just because of the fun flying poses I can put her in. Didn't keep the BAF, Spidey, or Venom, but the ones I kept are aces. |

Haha, well, Dorkside finally shipped my loose figures a few days ago, so new wave should be doing right by me soon. =) Really though, I know this thread is open to all sorts of topics, but lately it's been way too comic heavy. If I was still working on Legends figures, I'd have bombed it with tips and mods a few pages back as a palette cleanser. lol

It passes the time and is also pretty fun to discuss current comics and characters that would do well to have the Marvel Legends treatment. After all, aren't figure wish lists and speculation half the fun of collecting? |
