I think it's more likely to be the prior, as we're receiving the Magik figure but only as part of a five pack which overall promotes a Marvel Studios property (Doctor Strange). So in that regard I reckon your BAF idea could work! While a wave could have Rogue as the BAF, the series would be officially an Avengers one, which would promote that property. I'd be up for that!

Whether I'd want to buy 7 D-list Avengers to get an A-list X-Men character though is the debatable part (they're going to run out of A/B-list Avengers reaaaal fast at the rate they're going).

Maybe Hasbro should hire me to revitalize the line. First wave under my reign: Polaris BAF! Maximus The Mad! Justice! Firestar! Iron Man! Iron Man (again!)! Thor! Silk! We'll also have character related pizza parties every Friday. Who doesn't want a Paste Pot Pete Pizza???

I understand the chain of command. I just don't understand why this ban on FF/X-men figures have not been openly addressed. It has been treated so "hush hush" or like it doesn't even exist. I would just like to see it addressed by fans at the Q&A, so someone can explain the elephant in the room.

It's from Secret Avengers. Eric O'Grady (LMD) goes by Black Ant.

^ Looking at that dialogue, sometimes Rick Remender is on-point, but sometimes he is just god-awful.

@VonPooten

After reading Uncanny Avengers, I find his writing to be pretty tedious. His personal views tend to surface in odd soliloquy-like observations. I say "soliloquy-like", because the character is usually talking to someone, despite the self-talk nature of what's actually being said. If I was a ruthless villain, or a hard-nosed hero, I wouldn't allow some idiot to prattle on about his/her personal musings while I patiently waited to cave-in their skull.

I have no problem with writers working their thoughts into stories or characters, provided that the author's sentiments are in keeping with the character in question and the flow of the story is uninterrupted. Remender often muddies the narrative with pedantic messages that represent his personal worldview. It sometimes takes multiple panels devoted solely to exposition just to convey some lofty and grandiose pontification. I actually agree with most of his observations, however, the clumsy (at times) presentation has me often rolling my eyes.

BlueMarvel, I couldn't agree more. Remender is at often times a sophisticated writer with a moving and perceptive message, however he has a tendency to, as you said, get carried away in his own voice. When done correctly, it can work significantly to the comic's advantage, but Remender has had quite a few meandering splurges of "Remender's Views" through the voice of a character.

An example of this done well would be Kitty Pryde's speech on being Jewish in All-New X-Men. This was clearly Bendis' personal reaction to Remender's "don't call me a mutant" fiasco, but it was framed in a way which seemed like a realistic and plausible thing for Kitty to say.

Annnnyway, on the Black-Ant note, while I felt that Remender's Secret Avengers was pretty poor, I like Eric O'Grady and this look is nice, so he'll be a buy for me.
Anyone else thinking that this is prepping for a comic Scott Lang announcement with the same sculpt?

Purely speculation on my part, but I'm guessing it's something like this:

Officially, there's no ban.

Unofficially, Disney has made it clear that they don't want their licensees making FF and X-Men based products. Generally speaking, the licensees will do what Disney wants so that they don't lose the license the next time it comes up for bid.

Unofficially, Disney has also likely made it clear that the licensees are not to mention any of this to the public, so that Disney isn't "officially" painted as the bad guys.

Like I said, dirty business. It's worth asking, I'm just saying that the elephant in the room will at best be answered with corporate doublespeak: "Oh don't be silly, there's no ban on X-Men and FF. **Nervous laughter** No, we've just purely coincidentally decided that for now our focus should be on other characters to take advantage of the great synergistic marketing of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and maximize the profit structure for the outside-the-box thinking necessary to propel our enterprise management forward into the 21st century."

(Probably not that bad, but you get the picture. They'll never SAY there's a ban. Because technically there isn't. Except there totally is.)

For the record, I didn't believe in the ban until quite recently, when it became painfully apparent that it was happening across pretty much all Marvel licensees.

pretty much all of this, and as you say it's not worth asking. Though Hasbro may put out one X-Man related person a year (marketing with something else ala Magik this year) to show there's "no ban" and technically they'd be correct. It wouldn't be a ban it would be a severe encouragement to not producing anything but a "not a ban!" figure.*

* Deadpool and Wolverine may be exceptions though. Hard to tell on those.

ANother thing to consider is if Hasbro has the licenses for those characters and is just being encouraged by D/M to not make the figures, or if D/M has actually put a ban on those figures and Hasbro cannot even make them. It seems that D/M has pulled licenses for these characters from most companies but if there were any company that they'd want to "work with" it would be Hasbro. So if they are just encouraged to not make those figures but do have the licenses, there's still a chance they could go against the grain and release very limited selections. On the other hand if it's an outright ban and they don't have the licenses, there's no chance.

It would just be very interesting to know the behind the scenes on this particular agreement but I know that will not be something we ever learn.

A thought I had this morning, what if X-Men and F4 figures were made as the BAF. If fans of those characters wanted them they would "have" to buy 5-7 figures of other property characters to complete them. That might be a win- for both D/M and Hasbro, and something of both a win and a loss for us.
Total assets of Walt Disney Company: Roughly 84 Billion Dollars.

Total assets of Hasbro: Roughly 4.25 Billion.

Disney could buy Hasbro nearly twenty times over. They have NOTHING to worry about when it comes to making them mad. If Hasbro gets mad, Disney just gives their licenses to Mattel in the next go-round, and Hasbro's stock goes into a tailspin with the loss of the Star Wars and Marvel licenses.

Disney's got pretty much all the power in the relationship.

Maybe Disney has secretly bought Hasbro.

Let's not get THAT rumor started again. Hehe.

Especially since I'm pretty sure buying it "secretly" would be illegal and get Disney in a whole lotta trouble once it became public.

To say nothing of the massive number of lawsuits from their shareholders/stockholders.

Hasbro could survive without Disney. It'd just be a considerably smaller company, particularly in the boys' toys department (though it would probably lead to a major attempt to revitalize G.I. Joe).

This is how rumors get started. Of course I was joking but someone would think it might actually be true.

And yeah I agree Disney holds the power but if they go around treating all their licensees like crap, eventually future potential licenses would be weary enough that money might not be as important as customer reputation. I dunno though,....businesses are in the business to make money.

That's not bad at all. If it's as good as the knock off Hulkbuster, then it's a great stand in

Tonight is a preview night. I'd say the guy is there helping to set up. Also, it looks like a classic Hulk card back to the upper right of DD.
