@Triv
No sweat, I should've been more clear in my affirmation of your heartfelt account. For sure, I pegged you as a 'storyteller' awhile back. I like your stories, dude. You're right, allegories are excellent tools to get people to think of situations along different lines. The retail glass ceiling is too real. Managers also get their hours played around with, resulting in them feeling underappreciated/under-compensated in light of the (often) overwhelming added responsibilities. Bad managers will trickle that career-angst down to their employees creating a toxic workplace...a vicious cycle that I can almost taste when I enter some stores. As to your last point, I just spotted some eBay GotG2 figs from a seller in Tennessee...hurry up and take my money, Hasbro, for my Adam/Death's Head II/Ex Nihilo! ...I also want...dare I say it...Captain Universe! |

BBTS just listed preorders for wave 2 of GOTG2 - "may" estimated release. Hopefully dorkside will get them up soon too. I want the whole wave but not bad enough to spend time looking for it, or a "have to have it now" mood.

But now I guess it makes sense for this wave to be out first.

I was just thinking the same thing to myself. Since this movie came out first, I guess it makes sense. I just can't wait to get these figures in my Detolf where they belong. LOL

I notice a lot of people have been saying they dislike customer service. Would any of you mind sharing what you do for work? I'm pursuing film, but I will be needing work to supplement my income for a good while. What kind of jobs are out there that aren't customer service heavy?
Thing is, though, I don't actually have any specific skills in this line of work, and that's the thing that gets you most non-retail jobs - a skill set that is useful in that position. Neither of my previous retail jobs 'required' any skills from me that weren't taught on-the-job. The most I ever brought to the table was a knowledge of anime when I worked at Suncoast during high school (late 90s/early 2000s). Truth be told, even with all the struggles of retail/customer service work, if I could make a decent living off of working in a specialty toy shop (or if we had enough money that I could do it more for fun than for financial survival), I'd jump at the chance. I know and love action figures like crazy, have since childhood, and after finding out about the local toy shop that's become my new hunting ground, I've spent a lot of time just talking shop with the employees and customers.

I'm currently an assistant technician/engineer at a small local radio station, though that's mostly because it's a lax environment and my father's the head engineer. But it's good, hands-on work, and because the staff is small and the environment is friendly, I've done some on-air work as well (specifically morning traffic reports).

I'm still really sad theyre not around anymore. Quote:
I forgot to answer this. I used to work in sales for the company I'm in but now I do administration, focusing on researching viable accounts for our company for various purposes. The great thing about it, is, that even if the pay is not all that great (I did make more in sales but had more stress), since it's non-paperwork oriented and our office has tried to mobilize its staff as much as possible, I work from home 90% of the time and go into the office 1-2 days and sit at a rotationally available cubical. I absolutely love the perks and the non-interactive nature of my job, as I'm an introvert by nature. Fortunately I'm not single and living alone because if I were it would probably be too much isolation. Plus, I can get my workouts done during my lunch break when the gym is not crowded like it would be during evenings, so I'm not completely alone. LOL.

Judging by the photos on MarvelousNews, it looks like it's tooling and not just deco.

Dorkside now has the Mantis wave up (May estimated release as well). I've gone ahead and placed my order - glad I'm able to support a local business (though I had absolutely no problems with BBTS, just better to support local businesses IMO if treat you just as right.)

@BoyBlunder: I used to work in promotions and as an on air talent during my freeform (college) and commercial radio days. I absolutely loved it. The great thing about radio is that so much it revolves around being relatable and being able to speak publicly. As long as you can do that, and can handle the crazy hours and expectations, it's great. If I hadn't developed some demons during those days, I would probably still be doing it.
I noticed that BBTS did put up their pre orders for the new Guardians wave, but I've actually had better luck with but it now on eBay when securing entire waves as of late, as many times I'm able to get them just under BBTS prices with free shipping, and often before BBTS gets them in the first place. |

@Triv, absolutely. I've been told by a number of people that I have a good radio voice, and the station manager said that I sound very relaxed on the air. Heck, the times I've filled in on the morning traffic, our usual guy has said that he's gotta up his game or he's out a job!
![]() If they could offer a good pay raise, I'd be happy to do more on-air stuff. Toy-related: I don't intend to get the entire Mantis wave, but if anyone knows they aren't gonna want the BAF parts for Mantis, hit me up. I'm only going to be getting Gamora, Adam Warlock, and maybe Nebula, but will need the rest.
