There are a lot of people suffering right now. This pandemic has been rough on so many levels. There are a lot of groups and individuals (adults, teens and kids) trying to help those going through tough times. It does suck to have to have packages stolen. I sincerely doubt it is by someone needing help. It is someone bored or doing it for fun. If you know about organizations in your area offering help share it within your neighborhood. Last week, our city distributed bags with Hand sanitizer, masks and information in English and Spanish for those that needed help - food, medicine or Covid-19 testing. It was a nice gesture and I hope a lot of people in our community benefitted from this bag. I hope other communities and cities can provide a bag with helpful information and items to those that need it. We have to be humans helping each other, supporting each other, caring for each other.
About why people steal, the vectors are often intense poverty/need, lack of job skills/education, a paucity of work experience/training, a dearth of available jobs/resources, and limited access to the rungs of social mobility. In a former career path, I worked in an adjunct capacity (an alternative sentencing program aimed at reducing adolescent recidivism in NYC) to juvenile justice. I didn't run into many individuals in family court that stole things for shits and giggles. Kleptomania, if that is what you are alluding to, is a real thing, but relatively rare, at least it was in the populations I served. But I'm not here to argue opinions nor was I opining as to the motivations of the thieves in question. I was simply referencing the difficulty of current conditions, compassion, and perspective on it all. |

My custom MU Gwen from about 10 years ago compared to the official ML. I'd like to think they used mine as inspiration

That's great to hear, we all could do with some extending of kindness to each other and the prosocial activities you mention are exactly what we need more of.

In the 'Burbs we have some kids that were breaking into cars to steal radios. They were caught by an off duty MP. Judge threw them in jail for 30 days. Rich white kids that thought it was fun. There have been some porch pirates that have been caught that also did it for fun.
I see now that there are at least a couple of misreads going on here. Why people commit crimes can be incredibly complex and there are a variety of reasons and conditions that researchers postulate as causation for the behavior. As I mentioned, years ago I worked for an ALTERNATIVE-sentencing program designed to interrupt the school to prison pipeline for teens involved with family court within the 5 boroughs of NYC. This program kept kids in their homes avoiding a formal introduction to juvenile detention/remand by offering intensive in-home counselling and therapy (that was me) to the children and their parents with the goal of ameliorating many of the hurdles challenging these communities (MY community). The program was developed and based on empirical research of a progressive think-tank focused on juvenile justice and eliminating recidivism (reoffend, AKA "career crime") in the state. The success of the program I worked for, along with a slew of other similarly successful programs has made New York a model for the country in approaching these dilemmas. Research has proven that when the "vectors" I mentioned (lack of work preparedness/education/training, lack access to jobs/experience/resources, alleviation of the conditions of impoverishment) are addressed interaction with law enforcement and rates of incarceration decrease. That's the efficacy of approaching these societal problems form a perspective of proactive/preemptive engagement rather than punitively via incarceration. About the anecdotal instances you mention, JCater, sure, I'm not suggesting those things don't happen. Nor am I suggesting that white people don't commit crimes. That thinking would be absurd because whites are the largest demographic in America (for now) and FBI crime statistics list them as out pacing other cultures by a wide margin (see - again - "largest demographic in America"). And that's even when you factor in the reality that law enforcement and the judicial system are categorically and systemically more lenient when dealing with this demographic. However, there is something I want to clear up about what I perceive as a misconception based on what you wrote: even in the "burbs," there exists poverty and, by extension, there are a plethora of impoverished whites just as susceptible to the aforementioned "vectors" as are people in the cities (otherwise considered to be overwhelmingly POC). Please note that I didn't introduce race/ethnicity into this dialogue, I merely responded to it... As the current zeitgeist bandies about this concept of being superficially and/or commercially "woke" (awareness isn't about a T-shirt or a monolithic stance IMO - it's a comprehensive living breathing phenomenon that extends throughout the lifespan), it's important to realize who your potential allies are. It's also important be careful of reading into things what you want to read and realize that not all conundrums in life are black and white ones (and I'm not referencing race in that last bit...lol...it's meant metaphorically). I haven't bought too many Legends in 2020, and we still have a few more months for Hasbro to slip out a surprise or two, but I'm pretty comfortable saying the deluxe War Machine is the best Marvel Legend this year, no contest!

It was posted on FB too. There's no BaF piece, and I for the life of me can't remember if the double packed figure that doesn't have a piece still has the {BaF name here} wave tag

Soon I’m going to need to start a display shelf of Legends figures I never knew I needed, starting with the latest Hercules, Hydro-Man, and She-Hulk, just to name a few. The centerpiece, though, would have to be this Legendary Riders Punisher. He arrived the other day and I’ve just now started messing around with it. Oh my damn this is the most badass (baddest assed?) figure I own now. There’s just so much attitude. Pics I’ve seen haven’t really done it justice. A little weathering on the bike and weapons would have really pushed this over the top, but I’m not complaining. I can always do a little dry brushing myself. Of all the accessories, I find I like the baseball bat most. I think it helps give him that brutal, “I’ll kick your ass with whatever I can find” quality.

Seems like an upcoming retail exclusive single release to me. There's a shot of the back of the package floating around where the usual BAF breakdown is also missing. The packaging is very reminiscent of the various Captain Marvel store exclusives that were released around the time of its movie.

Amazon needs to get it together, first my Sunspot was supposed to arrive Oct 5th, then he was in the batch of pre-orders that came in early and was supposed to be delivered this past Tuesday, Tuesday morning I got an email that my order needed me to manually approve it, after that he was delayed until Oct again, then this morning I got a notification that he shipped and would be here Tuesday

Need some help in finding some protective cases for the retro cards. I saw some a week or so ago and cannot find it now. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh my god. Or gods or goddesses.
I have been following this threat because it felt familiar. And I love every one here and respected their opinions. But, and this is a big but.... I just finished a big day working, and I sat down with a glass of wine to read about my favourite people in a forum. Agreeing or not. And then I read The Blue Marvel's post. Please don't take this in the wrong way, Blue Marvel. But if I wasn't married already, and you would take me as I am, I am yours. Jokes aside, my family is very complicated. About impoverished people. I have right wing, and left wing. The younger generation are very confused. They cannot find a middle ground.. I am ashamed, the youth don't have more choices. This bad situation is all about education, and keeping people low, so they never rebel. And it's happening all over the world.. I have friends everywhere, and it upsets me so much to hear what they are going through. I am not as eloquent as you are Blue Marvel, but I thank you so much, tonight, for giving me hope, we are not all f£&@ck. Some of us have hope, we will stop hating each other. |

There should be a forum for politics and other BS. It would help filter out some of the political handwringing that goes on in this 3000 page tread devoted to 6” plastic people. Anything and everything gets discussed in one thread, it has always amazed me as a guy that frequents a ton of message boards across a wide range of interests. My favorite site had a political dumping ground that was sort of set aside from the mostly college football content. It really helped cut down on the bickering and posturing that goes on when people want to get philosophical and political.
I’m here to enjoy my hobby, and escape the political assault that we’re all experiencing in our daily lives. I don’t care what anyone’s politics are, and I can appreciate everyone having their own opinions. This is America, where we can all agree to disagree and enjoy our mutual overspending on useless plastic goods in the name of collecting. |
