Never formally met him but have been within a couple of feet away from him and was surprised to see that hes a really small dude lol. I've heard hes actually a really cool guy...so sounds like an instance of him just not being around and his handlers not giving a shit regarding his fans.

I've been told the opposite by a some on other sites. However, I'm betting the people that say he's cool were the ones who paid the money to meet him, so of course he would be nice to those. I also hated how the one dude at his table the one time he actually did engage me just assumed my finances. He says, "That print there is $2500, but you can buy that one for $900." Like nope. Not only am I not buying anything from a table with a no show artist, but those prints were not worth even $40 in my eyes.

I'm curious, has anyone here ever actually met Jim Lee?
He was "attending" Fan Expo Denver this past weekend. The reason I put attending in quotations is because he was never actually at his table. There would be two older gentlemen always at his table playing on their phones ignoring anyone that walked up to them unless they wanted to buy something. The only time they really spoke was to say, "Jim Lee is gone for the day," or , "The prices are in the corner." That's it. Furthermore, you had to pay $100 to attend his panels which were titled, "The Jim Lee Experience." Well for me, my Jim Lee experience is that he's a greedy asshat who doesn't actually give a damn about his fans. |

I wonder if Robbie Ghost Rider with his Charger would ever be done as a Haslab project, it definitely wouldn't be as pricey as the previous Marvel projects but it still feels like something retailers probably wouldn't carry. I don't think I'd even back it but still something I was thinking about.

I’m sorry but I can’t stand Frank Cho, some of his work is very demeaning to women.

Had to look up some of his art'cuz I'm terrible with names, but it doesn't seem too demeaning to women? It's certainly very cheesecake-y, but with a humorous bent? I'm just glad it's not like the creepy Death Of the Family cover with Batgirl and Joker, or that aged-up Powerpuff Girls comic...

^I would visit Frank's Instagram (frankchoartist) to see why some people view him as misogynistic. What he has there goes far beyond the covers you mentioned. And this is from someone that very much enjoyed his run on Mighty Avengers and his art in general. He's definitely intentional with his illustrations and there's no innuendo with the Wonder Woman and her bedroom antics/partners.
There's a place for art like his to be appreciated, but it's squarely in the realm of 'adult themed'. Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 07-05-2022 at 09:14 AM.. |

Honestly, I don't think he's ever really hidden it. I noticed from the start, but I grew up reading Epic Comics and Heavy Metal, so I'm a bit inured to that form of art. I just believe it's important that there be a barrier to whom gets exposed to adult comics. And, arguably, maybe not to nearly the same extremes, nor with the same amount of systemic regularity, but there's a good amount of objectification of the male form as well. Much of the reason I started lifting weights heavily in college and beyond was because I consumed toxic images of what popular culture broadcasted as the perfect male form. To the point that I developed a body dysmorphia that persists to this day. I'm Gen X, so that was then, but these concepts, even for men, have only worsened as we've progressed/regressed. But, yes, your point isn't missed, this has been something women have suffered through on so many levels for generations before it started becoming the norm for men as well.

I actually developed a eating disorder that still persist today, so I have some small level of knowledge about what you are going through and I hope someday your troubles will be relieved. Looking at people like Scarlett Johansson and the things that they have done and stood for gives me hope that soon things will change for both genders respectively. |

Id much rather have his art over that ungodly terrible she hulk artistry from a few years back that looked like it was drawn by a buncha preschool kids.

A comic artist mentioned Frank Cho's name at the con and I don't remember when it was, but if I recall, it was not in the most positive light.

Pertaining to Jim Lee, I met him at a comic con in Baltimore, MD back in 2002 & I had like the 1st 11 issues of his HUSH storyline with me & he signed them all for me. I asked to take a pic with him & his assistant stated it would cost me $ but maybe cause I was still an active duty Marine at the time & was sporting a USMC cap, Lee told his assistant it was alright & took a pic with me free of charge. |

^ That definitely lines up with everything I’ve heard about Lee. He also did this, which I think is pretty cool: https://www.gamesradar.com/jim-lee-r...-art-sketches/

Frank Cho's always seemed like a prick, but I've heard nothing but good things about Jim Lee.

It’s not about being mad or as you would say “butthurt”, it’s about respect and not fueling the idea that these unrealistic anatomical features are what’s normal and expected. I highly doubt these type of things had the same effect on you as it did on me and TheBlueMarvel, but please do not shrug off our concerns as being “butthurt” and then tell us to just ignore what we see. Im well aware what I’ve said isn’t the popular opinion and im not saying a little bit of cheesecake and beefcake here and there is bad, but I would appreciate a open mind from you and others about this subject. |
