So I believe I may have asked this question of an Arker or two individually, but I'd like to get a general consensus across the board.

As we all may or may not know, Marvel Universe figures produced for Canada often have all text printed in English, Spanish, and French, making the packaging significantly different. This isn't an issue whatsoever for the non-MOC collectors, but raises a few questions for the MOC collectors like myself.

First off, are all MU waves that are released in the US also released in Canada? Are they released on a smaller scale? Would say a Canadian packaged Blade or colored vision be even more rare than a US packaged one?

I realize that even most MOC collectors won't be interested in collecting these packaging 'variants' (differences), but I've gotten one or two of them in my trades, and I'm trying to decide if I'd like to collect these as well.

How many MOC collectors try to get these too? Aside from having to collect all 200 figures over again, and some of them possibly not being available at all, and moving forward trying to collect new waves with Canadian packaging too, this seems like an interesting aspect of collecting this series.

I know, I know, I'm crazy for not opening mine, and even crazier for considering collecting Canadian packaging variants, but I'm getting close to completing the US MU, and am thinking of new challenges to mount without branching into other series. So any insight any of you have would be greatly appreciated!

Being Canadian I say NO!! IMO if you have either US or Bilingual packaging be happy. Trying to collect both would be BRUTALLY expensive. Plus trying to find the Vision and Warpath nonvariants would cost you an arm - quite possibly literally.

I figured it's near impossible to collect the entire run in Canadian packaging, but I also thought it might be the last, untapped challenge regarding collecting this series. (Not that I have completed ANY of the previous challenges yet).

Good question...i too have the entire line US MOC..with exceptions such as Victor Von Doom, and clear mask electro.

I think it would be crazy to go for both...but then again look at all the joe collectors who buy foreign cards as well. Lol

The expense alone says no way is that for me..lol

The way I see it is, MU is carried in both US and Canada, but due to the language laws and the repacking, it takes time, so because of this process we get waves, way later then our US counterpart. It sucks because there's atleast 1-2 complete waves that skip us or we miss. Vision wave is a prime example. Also the selections is limited to a peg or 2 full when the selection is there. Thing such as the gigantic battle packs I've never seen. I've never seen a Galactus figure at retail, I just started seeing the odd sentinel at retail. Personally you're better off collecting something like Marvel Legends or some other figures lines that interest you, as it really doesn't benifit you collection/financially to get the same figure but in slightly differnet packaging. it's just doubles in my eyes, warpath/vision may command slightly more due to the packaging, but it'd cost you a lot to get it unless it's retail.

FINDING some of the characters in bilingual packaging would be a nightmare...even if you wanted to collect them i doubt you could find them all since distribution has been pretty horrible. we also never got some things at all like the walmart exclusives

I think you should do it. These posters saying not to obviously don't have the proper MU drive.

Lol, I think it's just pretty obvious to everyone how difficult it would be to even attempt. There's probably not even a complete list of Canadian multi-lingual packaged figures in existence. I wonder if Hasbro even keeps track...

In any case, I'm trying to figure out what the heck to do with my Canadian packages. I'm an all-or-none kind of guy.

A great point was made that it'll probably cost more to buy these figures than they would end up being worth, since there are hardly any (none?) Canadian Packaging collectors.

Still, instead of the multilingual packaging being worth less because less people are interested in collecting them, I think they should be worth more because they're even harder to find. Doesn't that make more logical sense?

Just imagine if you had every figure in both packages, it'd be a pretty amazing collection!

Something is only worth as much as someone else is willing to pay, if no one wants those then they arent worth anything, that does make sense, supply and demand my friend

Canadian packaging SUCKS. On some of the MU waves, there are warnings on the back of the card that cover the picture of the character, from thigh down. As well, ALL single cards are missing the character description on the back as well - rather, it's placed on a low quality, folded up like 10 times little tiny sheet of paper where all the languages are crammed on it. You'd be insane to collect MOC Canadian MU, unless ur French.

That made me chuckle.

Actually, rarity doesn't really make that much of a difference when it comes to multilingual packaging (as far as I've noticed, anyway). As Good Stuff mentioned, there are usually several bits of detail that are covered up or missing due to the language laws in other countries. But that's understandable, as Hasbro usually designs the packaging with the US market in mind.

So for most MOC collectors (at least the ones I know), they want the "cleaner"-looking packaging, even if it's not printed in their native language. It has more details and is overall better looking in a display.

On the other hand, I open most everything. So the packaging doesn't really bother me one way or the other.

True. You'd have been committed to the asylum after finishing it, but it would certainly be an impressive collection.

Canadian packaging is most deffinately considered a variant.

If you don't get them your collection won't be complete.

There's the famous Classified sarcasm. Very hard to detect at times, but easy to spot if you're looking for it. I was wondering when it was going to show up.

I have an example of Bad Canadian Packaging Variant. It's not marvel, but it is to show how us Canadians get f____d over.

Here are the Crash Dummies from Tyco

Package 1 (left) is from Series 1 called Vince and Larry. The figure is called Vince, who is a grey dummy. The package is american.

Package 2 (center) is from Series 2 called The Incredible Crash Dummies. As you can see Slick replaced Vince. His artwork is the same but the color and name tag on the artwork have been changed to match the replacment. This is also an american package.

Package 3 (right) is the same character as Package 2 but this is the Canadian Version packaging. Artwork the same as Package 1 but the name tag on his as been wipe out. The didn't even bother to change his color to match the figure. The 1 2 3 on the bottom of the package no long has words next to them. "The Incredible" that is suspose to be on top of the Crash Dummies logo is not there anymore. From what I can tell they made a template from series 1 and used it again for series 2. I find it looks horriable and messes up the look of the collection.

At least Marvel doesn't take the cheap route like this......

if you only collect 3 3/4'' figures I'd suggest trying to collect other lines such as thor, cap, iron man, spiderman, or stuff like gi joe /starwars. A line worth collecting and could be achieved is Marvel Select as there's not nearly as many figures/variants as Marvel Legends.

That's incredible. Almost like they were just re-using old packaging from the first series to get rid of it! I'm glad we don't have these issues in MU.

I'm already on board with Thor, Cap, and Iron Man, but I don't think I'll be trying to complete the Spidey line. That one has way too many crappy Spider-Men to be collectible. I'd be fine with it if all the Spideys appeared in comics somewhere, but the majority of them are just silly ways to make Spider-Man more interesting.

I grabbed a couple Marvel Select before MU, thinking they were the proper scale and detail to go with the MU Sentinel, but once I figured out the Sentinel was MU, I sold all the Select figures. They're so expensive!

they're expensive but the most expensive MS figure is half or less of what the most expensive ML figure is, ie the deadpool red comic variant MOC that goes for $5-600 lol, plus MS has 4-5 figures/wave as compaired to 6-8 for ML. You could always buy double MU figures and have them to open and play/pose with haha as you have a set moc.
