Marvel is coming out with 4 series of their popular characters, all done in Japanese Animation. The first 2 were revealed, Iron Man and Wolverine, with teaser trailers for each. Iron Man looks decent, but Wolverine is just wrong imo. He's not Wolverine to me; just a skinny, long haired, dude with claws. What do you think?

Call me biased, I grew up in the 70's and 80's, so the Marvel characters mean alot to me especially Wolverine who is my favorite but I gotta ask why? Why do this? I know Anime is hot right now but with the live action movies beginning to get better and with some great straight to DVD animated movies, why do we even need this? I agree the Iron Man is ok but the Wolverine is horrible and I really hate to see who is next to be Anime-ated.

It's human behavior to be resistant to change. In the case of pop culture, far too often we become very biased by our own interpretations of how we think our beloved characters should be represented.

I agree that this anime Wolvie looks NOTHING like the one I love. However, I will reserve final judgment until I see the completed work, meaning I have witnessed the personality and attitude that they attach to this new artwork design of a classic character as well as the direction they have chosen to go story wise.

One thing I can't disagree with, is that Wolverine has always been his best in Japan. Who knows Japan better than the Japanese? Unfortunately, it remains to be seen how well they know the Wolverine that we all love. It goes beyond just the claws and the short bulky frame people.

Let's see what happens. I'm keeping an open mind.

I think Iron Man looks great. His character really lends itself to the anime style, especially when you think about where the bulk of robot anime comes from.

Was that supposed to be the anime version of Iron Monger in the trailer?

Very true. It has never been more apparent to me than when the first TF movie designs came out, then when the first TF Animated designs first came out. Now for me, those designs were vastly different from what had come before, but since I've seen TFs go through several variations already, it was easier for me to give the new designs a chance. And for that, I'm glad.

That said, not everyone has to love or even like everything that Marvel puts out, or anything any entertainment company puts out. If that were true, we'd have a very boring society indeed.

I agree that the anime version doesn't really have a Wolverine vibe to it, aside from the feral hairstyle and the 3-clawed hands. To me, it feels more like a Vampire Hunter D character. But just that intrigues me, since I loved both D movies.

True, some of the best Wolvie stories, IMO, centered in and around Japan. Fighting the Hand, the Patch persona, Mariko, Yukio, the Silver Samurai, etc.

That's all we really can do at this point.

The animation for Iron Man looks AMAZING, how I feel about the villain fighting him or what Tony will look like without the mask on is a different story.

Wolverine on the other hand, yes, looks VERY stupid. The liberty taken in the way he looks is just prepostrous.

I love Anime. I watch more Anime than I do American television. I love the idea of Marvel characters being stylized like Anime. However, Wolverine just looks like a dumb Anime. This is all first impressions though, and I often find my impressions can change like the wind.

Ironman - AWESOME! I can't wait to see what the final will be after all this test footage. Hope not much is changed in the final.
Just please god be careful about his on land agility. The Ironman suit should not do extreme kung fu and flips. An in the air roundhouse is whatever cause of his boots, but please no backflipping Ironman scenes! Otherwise I'll be happy even with a green haired pepper potts(Previously confirmed).

Wolverine - I'll give it a chance, I did like the witchblade departure, but I'm kinda leary of mullet logan. It's like Daken the rebelious years almost instead. But the action and style looks intriguing enough. Don't know how much will change from the test footage... Kinda hoping some might still, but overall I guess it's to be expected when they started talking about clawed ballerinas flying through the air.

Blade - Can't wait to see how this one turns out. Sounds promising. Eric will be hunting vampires in china.

X-Men - Well if wolverine's bad, this could still redeem it. Here's hoping for Pixie, Surge, and a kickass X-23! No real info on this one yet.

Those are the 4 animes we'll be seeing in 2010, with an eventual US release near then too. Hopefully they'll run it through marvel.com subbed like they do the japanese Spiderman, but I'm sure many will get the DVDS as well. Steven Blum will more than likely voice logan in the dub if they do one of wolverine. This one might be tricky for fansubs to touch if marvel gets picky about their plans. Also keep in mind these are interpretations for Japanese Audience intended, but they do plan to try to bring them stateside too possibly later. Warren Ellis is helping out with them, so they do reflect some great promise for being universally accepted.
----------------------

Non-Anime
I'm kinda surprised there was no more word about Black Panther and BET though.
Wolverine and the X-men - Loving the potential here! Ilyana, Deadpool, and more? Oh heck yes.
Superhero Squad - Looks like it could actually be pretty entertaining in an odd SD shorts like version. Over 120 characters in 26 episodes? Just whoa. The clip was neat too.

Wow. You came to the conclusion that this character's a douche all on your opinion of lack of aesthetic appeal alone. Congratulations. lol.

I hope this is a pre X-men story. If they tell this as the story of Logan's Samurai training in Japan, then this style of anime makes perfect sense to me. Demons (Oni/Tengu/etc.) are a HUGE part of Japanese mythology, so the way I see it is like this:

If Americans can write Wolverine with a Japanese storyline using their own (Marvel) mythology, then why can't a Japanese anime studio, who acquired the rights, do a Marvel character like Wovlerine THEIR way with their own accurate Japanese mythology with a proper Samurai inspired storyline? Bottom line...Marvel does NOT know Samurai better than the Japanese!

This is why I'm keeping an open mind. Any fans of Japanese Anime Samurai stories should be able to see potential in this. It's a side of Wolverine no one has really seen in the proper light before, IMO.

He can get all bulky and animal looking with the classic hair style when he joins the X-men, lol. I want to see what the REAL Logan-san did as a Samurai, as told by the Japanese for once.

Wow....that was lame.

Can anime get anymore cleche? I really think that this was a missed opportunity. They could have focused on some other characters but instead they focus on the characters that there has been TOO MUCH of. I have to say that I am positively sick of IRON MAN AND WOLVERINE. PLEASE DO SOMETHING INTERESTING!!!! THE VISION perhaps?

I don't mind the anime versions of the charaters, but what was up with the villans? Wolverine's turned into birds after his voltron like move, and Iron man's dude in a suit instantly turning into a iron suit, Huh?

Sadly, it's the nature of the beast. Wolverine and now Iron Man are major cash cows for Marvel, right up there with Spider-Man and Hulk. The same can be said for Batman and Superman on the DC side.

Well and keep in mind it was only test footage to show off at the con. Though last time Madhouse did that with Resolute, the clips ended up being aestheticly accurate at least. Wolverine has fought demons though, so it's not that far of a leap.

The finals could look far different either direction still, but they are bringing this media to a region that doesn't get marvel superhero toons on tv that often(Unlike us where we've have wolverine and the x-men, X-men Evo, X-men TAS all rerunning nonstop and a direct to dvd animated movie). So let's just hope it's awesome, and that if anything the X-Men anime will probably not even be related to the wolverine one. =D The better they do, the more that'll come of all kinds of characters. =D

Blade has me curious though. Vampire Hunter D? No. They can do better. Afro Samurai! So heck yeah Blade has me intrigued on what they could do with him in china. What better place to showcase badass hand to hand and mele weapon combat.

Personally, I enjoy new interpretations of characters and such. I never see the new interpretations as the "definitive" version of those characters, though. I never worry about the new versions infringing on the previous designs either. Give me 31 flavors!

this is old news. the ironman will be ok. wolverine is just a shitty character so who really cares. marvel is just trying 2 branch out and do diff things. by selling out and going anime which is just a horrible type of animation. it makes me sad in my heart.

Thats bull.. I saw a clip of that nasty, pathetic, asinine, chop job of a Wolverine cartoon and it included with it all the information anyone needs to know that its a piece of #$%%^!!!!

It is in no way resistant to have both an artistic and conceptual standard for a character of any medium. Thats not to say that things can't be tried but this crap is just as Megaprime33 described, "wrong imo. He's not Wolverine". A character by definition is the sum of his attributes and experiences. And when things like this are done its simply about money. Taking a universally loved character who's been with us for decades, somehow made the big screen jump and lived and survived video games just to disassemble him as a LAME attempt to appeal to people who have seen and know who and what Wolverine is and just don't care or like him is stupid! I guess some of you may have liked how they destroyed Deadpool in the Origin movie.

Greenskar you keep that mind as open as you like, but that incarnation of Wolverine is going to SUCK! And for one simple reason. It's not Wolverine!

It's disrespectful to fans, source material, and the natural evolution of the character to do something so far out of place. It's not resistant, it's respectful!
