$50 a figure seems kinda high to me, even with the nice case.

8 figures at 25 a pop including accessories and a case.

Although once it hits the secondary market...about 50 dollars a figure is what I'd expect.

That would be a $400 set. Like Trivial Psychic notes it comes out closer to $25 per figure.

This is again a situation where I'm very glad that TMNT is something I never got into. Last year's arcade packs were really great looking but this set is cartoon/normal deco so it seems like something a lot of people would really want.

LOVE the look of these. And I've been waiting for Neca to repaint these into the cartoon colors. But I only really wanted the 4 Turtles. Hate to spend 200 dollars for all 8 figures.

They should fire the artist for the packaging too, cause that artwork sucks. Looks more like that hot garbage Cartoon Network passes off for animation these days than the 80's Turtles.
Holy crap! Are you kidding me?! What other 80s toon turtles are out there? Are you referring to the SH Figuarts? Yeah those cost more than this set, but here you get 8 figures and a collector's case. The only other ones made (ever) were Playmates, and they don't even compare!

"Fire the artist" ???? Yeah, I mean he only draws the TMNT Archie Comics which are obviously based on the designs from the 80s cartoon. Good lord lol
I hate to call people out, but come on! Dude, you should just not comment on TMNT ever. You obviously have no clue what you are talking about.

These look great and I think $200 is rather reasonable considering.

I know that, hence the part where I agreed with Trivial Psychic's math. $200 divided by 8 figures equals $25 per figure. Reread my post. I was wondering where/how MegaPrime33 got the $50 per figure price. Unless he was talking about the SH ones in which case yes $50 plus per figure is high.

I'm the same, although I never could get into getting the figures, but a few times I did and just got out of it...

If Funko and Super7 could team up to make those awful "vintage" figures, I don't know why Playmates can't play nice and collaborate with NECA for a few waves of figures people would actually buy at retail.

Just repainting those Foot Soldiers in video game colors should be like printing money. And Playmates loves repaints. More than a dozen of their most recent "new" releases are just new paint.

Those are very different examples. Funko licensed the ReAction figure name and style from Super 7, as well as helped distribute & produce them as a new line of figures. Also allowed Super 7 to get some new retail exposure in markets they had no previous dealings in with a product type neither of them were really dealing in until the Alien figures were released.

Playmates already has an established brand and line with TMNT as well as holding worldwide master toy rights to the entire franchise. It's not simply about coming to an agreement. It's likely about them wanting to minimize competition at a similar size class.

If you would have read my post properly, I didn't say toon turtles, I said 80's styled turtles. There are a TON of 80's styled turtles out there, in both the Mirage and 80's animated style. I enjoyed the original 80's toys myself personally, many of which I still have, and can be found at flea markets everywhere for a fraction of the price, as well as at TRU still. I didn't really care for the Figurearts versions (I like the Revoltech "modern" turtles better,) but I enjoyed the original run of TMNT Classics for what it was, and still think they hold up fairly decently, derpy eyes and all.

I would have much rather seen a scaled down version of the excellent movie figures NECA just put out over another animated set, and would have been quick to plunk my cash if they would have added on the film's version of Shredder, Tatsu and two Foot Soldiers on the villain side. Price point has never been an issue with me. I'd drop 250 easy, maybe even 300 for that set.

On the subject of the box art, I used to read the old TMNT Adventures put out by Archie Comics whenever I could get my hands on them (I grew up on a literal island, so usually 7-11 and KTA's were the only place I could find them,) and if this is what the artwork has degraded to these days, even for the cartoony ones, then sorry, I can't help you and we agree to disagree. It looks like **** compared to what they used to put out back in day.

Comic book art in general hasn't been all that great as of late though across all companies, but it's more of a sign of the time and styles more than anything else. It also depends on what era you started reading. Some people think Todd McFarlane is the greatest Spidey artist ever. Others, Steve Ditko. Art like everything else is subjective though, and is in the eye of the beholder.

I just expected something far better coming from NECA. The turtles drawn on that box look like they wandered off of a knockoff's packaging being sold in the toy aisle at a Mexican pharmacy.

I can't say if Ken did all the covers, but most of the interior pages. The same guy who's been doing the comics (since the 80s) drew the box art. If you don't like it, whatever. Open one of the comics and look at the drawing style, you should see the similarities. I like the idea, it makes sense to me.

"80s styled turtles" ??? Well, not many of those were made either. The only things out there are some Playmates Classis, Mondo Leo and Mousers, SH Figuarts, and the stuff from the 80s. That's it....everything else is NECA. That's not a "ton" of stuff. If that's a ton, what word do you use for a license like Star Wars, Batman, or Spiderman?
I think you're being way too harsh. This set probably has been years in the making. Don't appreciate it too late, you won't want to pay secondary market price.

Those are actually pretty cool. With the TMNT arcade figures, movie figures and now these I'm really liking what NECA does with the Turtles.

A lot of people want those figures but Neca isn't allowed to do them in in 7" scale at the moment. They seem to be getting more freedom with each convention release so I'd say it's possible in the future, just not right now. Plus, they haven't even released all four of the turtles in 1/4 scale yet so the 7" versions wouldn't have been ready in time for SDCC this year. For SDCC next year though, I'm expecting repaints of the toon figures in toy colors since 2018 would be the 30th anniversary for the original toy line. They'd get more milage out of the molds plus the boost from an anniversary. I'd also expect some black and white repaints of the Mirage Foot set from NYCC at some point too. You may have to wait a little while for those 7" movie figures .

TMNT is the biggest license Playmates has right now. If Neca or any other company was to start producing a 6" or 7" line of figures for mass retail, I doubt Playmates would survive. While fans will readily hand Neca their money for more figures, Playmates is gonna do what it has to in order to keep their doors open.

Cool, but not $200 cool. If I wanted to pay that much, I would get the Figuarts.
