They need to do GMK, 54, and 89 Godzillas.

Aw crap in a hat. If I had known they were going to release this one with the new articulation I would have held off on buying the original.

Is this not 89 Godzilla? Looks identical as far as I can tell.

No, this is 94 Godzilla. There is a big difference between 94 and 89.

89 has a more egg shaped head. The fins are placed differently.

89:

94:

I'm looking really hard, and the only difference I'm seeing is the placement of the fins.

Look at the eyes, the snout, the bulge on the top of his head, the teeth. His teeth look much sharper and ferocious on the 89 suit.

And the spines are also the biggest change. The rest of the body looks similar, but it also has to do with the animatronics of the face when you watch the suit in action. There is more life to the 89/91 suit compared to the suits used in 92. 93, and 94/95.

Yes, the suits in Mothra, MechaG, and SpaceG were all different from each other. The differences were subtle, but they were there, with the 92 suit being the worst of all them. It had no emotion at all within the face of the suit and the muscle tone was off.

Here, this might help if you are interested as it explains the differences in detail (such as the legs being bulkier in 94) and there are more pictures.

BTW, I ooopsed. The face shot I gave up right under 94 is actually the 93 one.

I'll take your word for it. I just don't think there are enough differences to warrant separate figures, and I've never heard of Bandai doing minor retools (except for similar characters like the Power Rangers who absolutely require minor retools).

The point is, I just hope they don't put off GMK Godzilla for too long, since he's my favorite Godzilla design to come from Toho (not my favorite movie though).

The GMK design is definitely my favorite Godzilla design AND it is my favorite Godzilla movie. I want a MonsterArt of him for sure, along with 54, and as I said, 89. I see a lot of differences between the BioGoji suit and the ones in the other Heisei movies. I guess it might depend on what your favorite Godzilla movies are, as the Heisei is also my favorite era with Biollante being my third favorite movie in the franchise, MechaG being my fourth or fifth, and Destoroyah being my sixth.

BTW, a lot people will also argue that the 89/91 suit does indeed deserve its own figure.

No, there is a hardly noticeable, very subtle difference. This is my favorite version of Godzilla & I even I don't care about the microscopic differences you're talking about. I just call them both the 90's Godzilla. Nobody is going to care or notice such tiny differences. This figure is good enough to cover both 89 & 94. It would be really stupid for them to bother making 2 separate figures that look almost identical. The first thing the average person would say is "what the hell is the difference???". Most people would probably think it's the same figure repackaged.
