Earlier this year, a rumor surfaced indicating that a CGI Street Sharks movie was planned to be released in 2018 with Michael Bay (of Transformers) as a producer.

Hot on the heels of applying for a new Dino Riders trademark, Mattel has also applied for a new Street Sharks toy trademark at the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
  • Mark: STREET SHARKS
  • Trademark ID: 86831761
  • Application Filing Date: Nov. 25, 2015
  • For: TOYS, GAMES AND PLAYTHINGS

"They Are Jawesome!"

They should look like King Shark from The Flash.

Agreed that's a live-action Street Shark right there. It was an awesome scene too.

I had a blast with these as a kid. I've still got the killer whale guy around here somewhere.

I don't remember the names but I remember having some of these like the one with claws for nails that could go in and out, the hammerhead that could turn into a car (really just a shark on its belly with wheels), and some lobster guy (I'm pretty sure he was from this). I don't know if I have them anymore or maybe I never got some of those and I just remember seeing them in store, either way it's neat to see a potential comeback for those who are/were fans.

I'm not at all interested in Dino Riders, but now...Mattel, you officially have my attention. They even filed it on my birthday, lol. I don't have the best memories of Street Sharks, but I remember absolutely loving the one figure I had.

Should be interesting to see what all comes from this. Makes me wonder who would/could make a new show.

My brother and I had 4 or 5 and they were so jawsome, lol. I remember even as a kid thinking these are just TMNT rip-offs, but I loved them. They had some of the best paint apps and nearly every one was a perfect rendition of it's cartoon counterpart.

I can't wait to see these with modern detail and articulation

The same reason that any old property is brought back to life: to cash in on an existing IP. Not to say that that's a bad thing, but that certainly is at the heart of this.

I'm really kinda hoping the movie rumor turns out to be true. Would be cool, imho, to see a Street Sharks movie similar to last year's TMNT film and it's upcoming sequel.

Edit: I wonder if Mattel still has the original sculpts. Reissues would be sweet, though I can't imagine the oriinals are all that hard to come by. I might have to look into getting a Mantaman (only one I remember having back then).

With all these old late 80's/early 90's properties coming back for nostalgia's sake, I wonder now...could Visionaries, Bucky O' Hare, and Exo Squad be far behind?

Also with all the popularity that is blind bag figures these days, you would figure Battle Beasts (and I mean the real Battle Beasts...not that nonsense that Mini-Mates put out a few years back) would be an easy to revitalize hit as well.

I still have 3 at my folks house. My dad has them on his garage shelf as decoration. The great white, the killer whale and the whale shark. I also used to like the cartoon.

Maybe i might jump on some of these when they come out.... i used to own TONS of the TMNT figures but these new ones nowadays look too kiddish. Not at all targeted at more of an older collector.

One old cartoon that needs to make a come back is Visionaries. Every time i see the toy line for Season 2 it brakes my hart. I hate so much we never got the season 2. I all so like to see MASK make a come back.

Jawsome! Loved these guys as a kid. Blades was always my favorite, though I loved Slobster too and the Orca was badass. That tongue, yo.

Thanks to the original TMNT toon I've always loved mutant animal/human hybrids, so bring on the Street Sharks.

They did, well when I say they I mean TakaraTomy. It was just 2-3 years ago they came out with a new line for Battle Beasts called Beast Saga. Same thing. Go google it, it was exactly like the old line. And yes the minimate stuff was nothing like the Battle Beasts I remember.

Great pic! I am one of those who constantly wish and pray for Visionaries and Exo-squad to come back. Those were my two favourite shows. the toys were really awesome as well.

I didn't know about Beast Saga...but...what's with the dice? Battle Beasts were so much simpler...Fire, Wood and Water. It's the simplest of games as is (Rock, Paper, and Scissors...), why mess with the formula?

Those are pretty cool though...but the original Battle Beasts were still far better. Part of the fun was that despite the beast, you never knew what faction they were going to be, since they were all assigned at random. Rub signs for the win!

Speaking of figures with rub signs...(or holograms for that matter...) does anyone remember Super Naturals (by Tonka Toys?) I used to love those things!

Haven't checked Ebay yet, but I've done a little looking into the original figures... and they're actually pretty pricey... on Amazon anyways. Kinda hoping that Mattel has some reissues in-mind, or that maybe my Mantaman will turn up when I go try and find my old Power Rangers stuff in my parents attic...
