Dang. These definitely look nice. I might have to pick one up just to compare to the 1/60.

I might pick up Hikaru's Super VF-1A....the 1st time I watched DYRL? I was captivated by the design. Before that, I didn't really like the VF-1A, since it was cannon fodder. When I grew older, my admiration for it grew too, but DYRL? was the 1st thing that made the VF-1A look cool to me. Especially the scene where Hikaru disobeys Misa and jettisons the FAST packs.

Exactly my thoughts on that figure too. The only 1A I owned was the Revoltech version, and I really liked the figure. My fear with buying one of these is that it starts off a whole new collecting bug for another scale. I told myself that if I was going to heavily invest in Macross, I would only stick to one scale (1/60). I already have four valks in that scale now. At this point, I don't know if I want to rebuy the same character in a different scale. But everything I've read seems to indicate people are happy with these.

The VF HI METAL VF-1J got rave reviews, so did the Fire Valkyrie, but the VF-1J definitely raised the bar for the line. It was actually delayed because Bandai stated that they knew the VF-1 was a design very important to fans. So they wanted to get it right.

As for collecting 1 scale...dude it's hard. There is no way I would turn away from the 1/55's, and the Revoltech non-transforming figures are really cool. Ditto for the 1/60 Yamato line(modern....don't like the V1 1/60 VF-1, but the V2 1/60 is one of my favorite VF-1 toys).

So rather than stick to 1 scale, I cherry pick from each. I plan on getting VF HI METAL toys eventually.

This is how I collect my DCU figures, by cherrypicking from the 6" and 3.75" scales (I recently dropped the 3.75" but don't rule it out one it comes back in 2011 with the new Green Lantern movie). But for some reason, I'm being anal about Macross figures. I'm sure my local import shops will probably get these things in, so I'll wait until I see it in person. Right now though, there's a few toys I need to get first, like the Bandai Monster, those 1/60 Queadluun figures, the Hikaru valk and the ghost for the vf-0s.

Well with Macross, it doesn't help that the figures that have the following:
  • Diecast content of some sort
  • Perfect transformation or close
Will cost you at least $50+, meanwhile the 1/60 stuff, which is the predominant scale at this point, has releases which will cost you at least $100+ with shipping.

I did consider the DYRL? Q Rau's but I passed on them. They are dated and I have a feeling I might not like them much, after reading a few different reviews. Might get the Ghosts if they are reissued.

I thought that too, about the dated part. But on ebay they can be had for $50 a piece. (Is that a good price? I have no idea what they were when they were initially released, but it feels like a decent price to me). As for the Ghost, on Amiami they have preorders and are expected to get them late this month. Don't know if it's a reissue or what, but they claim they are getting them. I have one on preorder now.

At any rate, even though in the past I felt these 1/60's were way overpriced, I've come around now. My Roy Focker has been off my shelf ever since I got him. I can't believe how amazing some of these toys are. I just wish the VF-25s were better built, cause I really enjoyed Macross Frontier.
