I’m willing to wager there was a non-chalant elbow to the groin after the pic was taken. Haha

lol Getting the picture taken that day was a last minute decision. We were originally planning to have it done on Saturday, which I would have worn my Spider-Man t-shirt for, but since they still had slots available for Friday night's session, we decided to take it just in case, as you never knew if a 93 year old man (at the time) would be able to stay at the convention the whole weekend.

At least it's not like the first question someone asked during his Q&A panel which was, "Who would win, Batman or Superman?"

Nah, Assembly Line Stan Lee didn't have time for that.

Meh. Kirby and Ditko were more important. Lee was just more well known. Lee should get more credit as the businessman who turned Marvel into a giant and the actual creators should get their credit. The average MCU fan just assumes Lee created everything because he took credit for it.

I agree Kirby and Ditko were important but Lee did a lot to make Marvel the success it became, and not just on the business side of things. He invented the Marvel Manner of writing comics (which I still wish they used today) where the artists has a rough idea of the story, draws out 32 pages or so, then the writer creates dialogue for the pictures. Lazy? Maybe. More creative? Definitely! Plus all the drawing skills in the world mean jack if you don't have the razzmatazz and showmanship to get people to notice your work! Either way, I don't wanna turn his death into a big argument, so I'll just leave it at that and say that he'll be missed.

His voice of reason and of hope are going to be sorely missed.
May he rest in peace with his beloved whom I'm sure he's missed for quite some time.

A true Marvel Legend.

Now is not the time for it.

Except I have never seen a single time Stan Lee took sole credit for anything. I heard he did way back in the 70s, but since I've known about the man since 1990 on, he's been nothing but a humble gentlemen. Yes, he may not be perfect, but the dude was ready to quit the comic industry when Jack pushed him to co-create the Fantastic Four with him and it was Stan's vision that pushed super heroes from being as one dimensional as the paper they were drawn on to fully fleshed out characters. I doubt Jack would have ever been able to do that on his own, at least initially. DC would have figured it out sooner or later, but it was Timely's ascension into Marvel that arrived first to the party.

Also, Stan did more than just that. He was the one who helped shape Super Sentai in Japan and wanted to bring the shows to the US by replacing the Japanese actors with American ones a decade before Haim Saban did it with Power Rangers.

I wouldn't say it was lazy in the slightest because you have to have complete chemistry with your artists to pull it off right. Stan, Jack, Steve, and John all had that chemistry with each other, especially Stan and Jack.

Chemistry helps no doubt but, I think the Marvel method hinged a lot more on the artists being skilled and capable enough to extrapolate an entire comic issue from a bare bones synopsis.

I always thought it was weird that Stan Lee didn't get like super mega famous until he was almost in his 80's. I mean like before he was just regular famous, then all the Marvel movies started happening like the Tobey Maguire Spiderman movies and he did all his little cameos in the MCU and then pretty much everyone knew who he was and what he looked like and he started doing all these little side projects and stuff with all that extra movie money he got. That's around when all his legal problems started happening too. Rest in peace Stan Lee... thanks for helping create the X-men.
