I've waited for Otachi since NECA started the line. The $65 price isn't totally easy to swallow, but this is my favorite kaiju from the movie so I'm definitely gonna get it anyway.

yeah, this one and the category 5 were my two favorites from the movie.

it's a shame this doesn't include a second set of arms with the wings expanded.

even though i don't like the price, i probably won't be able to resist getting it.

Slattern was the category-5's name, I personally don't like it as much as others just because it has so much going on at once. I'm holding out hope that maybe she does have her wings as a swap-off option, and I also note that the preview pictures don't show the baby kaiju which NECA has stated via twitter will be an accessory. Now I hope for a Karloff before any other kaiju who were in the movie, Karloff was brief but caught my attention way more than Raiju, Onibaba, or Mutavore (the other three who were in the movie and maybe Hardship too, I don't recall).

I could have swear that I read it here on Toyark that the Otachi with wings will be a different version to be release at a later date.

If that's the case I'll wait for the winged version.

So far NECA has only announced and revealed this figure. NECA currently has stated no plans for making a winged version.

Yes, boxed images! NECA has also started hinting and background picture dropping teases for a winged version of Otachi, still no official solicit on the winged version but a Toy Fair reveal seems entirely possible.

Also available at Entertainment Earth for $64.99, and at Big Bad Toy Store for $64.99. It's been up for pre-order since August or September at EE and BBTS, TRU only recently added her but it's a good sign of the closer release date.

Toysrus.com is free shipping since it's over $50, how much was shipping for BBT and EE? I bet it's more than $4.

'Tis a magnificent creature.

They could also make a second version with extended wings and deflated sac.

Deflated. Sac.

I have severely curtailed my toy purchased the past 2 years but I will lay out for the PR figures. Otachi is a great figure and I'm glad to see her, but given how heavily they have recycled the Knifehead/Scunner/Tresspasser body, I fully expect Otachi to be repurposed. Take the tail off, add wings, maybe include acid spin instead of the tongue.

I fully expect one of the next figures to be Mutavore, the Australian kaiju bested by Striker Eureka, as its body is similar enough to Trespasser that they can just do a heavily modified mold.

To my knowledge, after that, all that's left are truly unique kaiju featured in the film - Onibaba (the crab), Raiju (split head), and Slattern. Those will be one shot molds with a high production cost attached.

Beyond those are minor kaiju that either cameoed in the film (like Karloff) or appeared in spinoff media (games comics). I'd love Karloff, but would pass the rest.

Looks great, and the tail is posable! The acid spit effect is garbage, though, since Otachi never spit straight, it always arched like, y'know, actual fluid. Still, the Kaiju have been pretty excellent lately, Otachi looks to continue the trend.

Yeah the shipping is like closer to $10 for Otachi, but TRU will also add tax, which should come out to around $5.69 so wherever you go it's a small difference. The benefit of TRU is being able to return it in store or swap it out in store, but often when I order from TRU it isn't the best packaged shipping and I could see this possibly affecting the figure inside. BBTS and EE have a better track record for me on handling these adult figures with care when shipping them out. From BBTS Otachi is $64.99 plus $8.99 shipping (Fedex option) which totals $73.98 whereas TRU is $68.99 plus around $5.69 tax which comes out to $74.68, so basically the same. EE has a shipping of $9.95 which brings their total out to $74.94 just 26 cents more than TRU. You can't go wrong with any of these options, it looks like a stellar figure.

Deflated. Sac.
They kind of teased that we will be getting the winged one from this pic on Twitter. It looks like they're basically making it as battle damaged Otachi, with the acid sac torn out and the tail severed.

You can see her head in the bottom right with the torn out acid sac battle damage effect, and her wing spans behind the two PotA's statues.

They apparently are retooling Otachi for just that, though this regular version already comes with an acid stream to swap off with the tongue.

Mutavore was asked about on Twitter not too terribly long ago and Randy gave us a "maybe." If we got Mutavore I could see them making Hardship from it since they shared the same base body akin to how Trespasser, Knifehead, and Scunner shared a base body. Mutavore though was much thinner and less bulky.

I always thought of Raiju as an alligator or crocodile Kaiju whose head just happens to split open like that. We could eventually see a Raiju deluxe figure to partner with Scunner, but I think if we got Onibaba or Karloff they would be smaller and not deluxe figures since they were smaller than the rest of the Kaiju. Slattern on the other hand would be like how they did the Alien queen or the 24" long Godzilla. Karloff would be pretty cool to have though.

those were recycled because, if i recall correctly, they're practically identical in the movie.. besides their heads and a couple other things, the bodies are just about the same. which is probably why the toys followed suit.

Correctamundo. It plays into the idea that the kaiju are all made from the same DNA, and I'm sure it saved the design team time to just have that one base body to build on. The movie doesn't explain though why kaiju like Otachi, Leatherback, and Onibaba are so unique.

I'd rather have the winged Otachi, so I think I'm going to cancel my BBTS preorder and wait for that one. Hope it does get released. It would make sense as a battle-damaged version.

I bet whenever they do fully reveal the winged version many people will wait instead for that one. I prefer her without the wings expanded mostly because that's how she spends 90% of her screen time, but also as a space/balance thing. Otachi is a quadrupedal when she's not flying and her back legs are way smaller than her front, unless the winged figure comes with a support to show her flying she'd be stuck in the pose when she first unfurls her wings which would take up a lot of space. The biggest thing that drew me to Otachi was her bag of tricks, and her tail certainly seemed the most useful among them. A figure of her without the tail is less desirable to me than one with. I guess giving us a single figure with swap-off limbs was too expensive to keep her within the $65-ish price.
