Some cool shots there. The x-wings flying over the water was an especially cool shot. The Stormtroopers look great.

Other than that weird Bakugan-esque droid, it does look pretty cool. One thing though: why does his lightsaber have those two mini-blades coming off the side? That just seems silly.

Why are there still Storm Troopers? Weren't they all gone the moment Palpatine died?

That'd be like saying if the president/ queen of England died, their armies would just disappear Even though the Emperor died, I'm sure there were contingencies in place for that sort of thing, and even if not, someone underneath him in the chain of command probably stepped in.

I just saw the discussion on the Gameinformer website that pointed that out, my bad :P but yeah, other than that weird "soccer ball with an R2 head" thing, it looks pretty good! No whiny angst so far at least, haha.

I'm excited about this film. I haven't gone to a movie for opening night in years, but this will be a must see as soon as it is released.

It looks pretty, but (with me there's always gonna be a "but" about new SW stuff) I can't say that I'm actually hyped to see this movie. It's probably because I won't allow myself to get hyped just in case it sucks. I mean when you look at the very first Phantom Menace teaser/trailer that was pretty neat looking at the time, and then the movie was really lame. I hope this movie is good, I never hope for anything SW to be bad, but I don't want to get my hopes hyped by trailers and stuff only to get let down again.
Edit: just watched it again and I do not care for the lightsaber having the extra "guard" things. For me there's better things you could do to distinguish a lightsaber than just giving it a blade guard thing. Before the actual blade parts ignite on that area I thought it was kinda neat, but actually making them lightsaber blades isn't working for me. Maybe they can use that to punch people, that could make it work for me.

I'm with EnSabahNerd. Inquisitor's lightsaber is lame, unless it serves a functional purpose not illustrated in the trailer. Given that the bad guy is reportedly played by Benedict Cumberbatch, the flamelike appearance of the lightsaber might be an evocation of Smaug and Sauron, other villains associated with fire who were played recently by the same actor. It's got to be more than that. I'll bet it stretches full length in three directions or something, although that doesn't seem practical.
The stormtroopers have packed on a few pounds: thirty years of space pizza will do that. The ship shots are cool, but Hollywood is saturated with CG (computer generated animation) now, and one lesson that J.J. ought to have taken from the Hayden Christenson movies is that CG is no substitute for a good, well-told story. So far, I smell a rehash of Star Trek Into Darkness, with cheap one-liners, topsy-turvy ship shots and lens flares. The movie is bound to make money, but it won't break new ground. |

The Inquisitor's light saber is fucking amazing!!!!
This movie is bound to be good given it is done by the man who made two of the best Star Trek movies ever.

Who is narrating here, actor-wise? It sounds like Andy Serkis almost doing his Caesar thing, but it might not be Andy Serkis. We've seen Andy Serkis in the BTS pics and we know he's in the movie, that could be his voice narrating, maybe he's the bad guy or this movie's Yoda type character.
Edit: what's with all this inquisitor talk? We don't know that's who that is, we don't know that anybody in this movie is going to be called an inquisitor. We don't know a lot of anything yet. There are some villains who will be comparable to that inquisitor guy from that cartoon, hunting Jedi and shit, but again for all we know that guy with the "meh" lightsaber is just the flat out Sith lord or something. Speculation, speculation, speculation.

Initially, I was impressed, but not really blown away by the trailer.
But when the Millennium Falcon appeared, I screamed. I seriously, unintentionally let out an enthusiastic cry of excitement. I'm glad I was at home and not in a movie theater Overall, I'm still cautiously optimistic. I want this movie (and subsequent sequels) to be good, but I can't approach them with the same sense of delusion and naiveté as I did the prequel trilogy. After each disappointing movie, I refused to entertain the thought that next movie could potentially be bad, and I convinced myself that it would make up for the previous disappointment. Lol, that certainly wasn't the case, and I think that my naïve expectations made the overall disappointment even worse. Last edited by Frank Richards; 11-28-2014 at 04:42 PM.. |

I think some folks are overreacting a little too much with this lightsaber. If it were a jedi lightsaber I'd be worried, but it is obviously Sith. A weapon that could possibly injure the wielder if used incorrectly is pretty faithful to Sith philosophy.

You mean that philosophy that doesn't exist anymore in the canon? I tease of course, if it's ancient history (KOTOR stuff) and the new movies don't directly retcon it then the ancient stuff still kinda counts. Same for philosophies, unless the new movie states otherwise then pre-existing lore on that should be okay. However everything post Return is undeniably and with cruel certainty non-canonical (hah hah take that Darth Krayt! I never liked you!).

Pretty cool, love the gyrosphere droid, x-wings skimming the water, and the Falcon.

There's no mistaking Cumberbatch. Play it again and compare with this scene from Into Darkness:
My Name Is Khan (YouTube) You're right about the Inquisitor presumption. Hopefully, the plot will have reasonable depth, giving us some new and different flavours of bad guys. Addendum: Getting back to that goofy lightsaber, given the wintry conditions evident in the clip, it might simply be a peculiar way to use the weapon to generate some heat, kinda like Kirk and Spock firing their phasers at rocks. In other words, it may not be combat-related at all, in which case I would have skipped it altogether. J.J. wouldn't incorporate such a detail unless it serves an important purpose, surely. I'm no voice profiler, but to me there's no ambiguity. It's him. And if they used his voice, it would be odd for him not to play some significant role. If he's not a dark master, then he's at least an apprentice. Last edited by Skoob; 11-28-2014 at 07:20 PM.. |

I also think this needs a re-definition of cannon. There was a lot of material that came out between the OT and prequels that was officially canon per lucasfilm then retconned out by the prequels. Then there was a whole slew of post sequel and presequel EU material which now Disney has said is out. Until they decide to borrow some of it. Then that is in. How many resets do they get? As far as the lightsaber goes the little side flames don't behave like any other light saber blade, how do we know they ARE blades? |

Highlander Sith says..."there can be only one......erm....I mean two...."
I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and make a bold prediction. That laser claymore wielding character will not be an Inquisitor, or even the main bad guy at all. It will be Luke. Luke's style of lightsaber combat was two handed and very brutish, with long, wide swings, and a large claymore type weapon makes perfect sense for that style. The glove holding the saber also bears a resemblance to Anakin Skywalker's glove from the prequels, and it is on the hand that Luke lost to Vader, so it would not surprise me if Luke fashioned it after his father. There have also been rumors that the character might actually be Darth Revan as there are images circulating around the net of a character who wore a mask similar to Revan's brandishing a two handed claymore type lightsaber. I don't honestly know enough about Darth Revan to comment on this, other than that I know he's a pretty cool looking character. Anyway...I dug the trailer, but like they did with the Phantom Menace all them years ago, they spoiled what could have been a nice surprise by showing off the new villian's weapon of choice, instead of allowing us to be blown away by it by seeing it for the first time while in our seats. One thing that I did notice, the effects were SUPER clean, as everything looked terrific, and really put to shame the effects shown in the trailer for Jurrasic World a day or two earlier. That movie's trailer truly had some atrocious CGI that definitely could use a facelift in the upcoming months. |
