im huuuuuuuge into glyos and the onell toy system line i love customizing, collecting, selling, trading and just talking to the other collectors. to me they are small figures with interchangeable parts, in my mind, sorta similiar to legos, but smoother figure based...perfect size for customizing and a great figure to leave as it comes directly from onell headquarters
i started a thread over on the october toys forum for glyos fans to reply with what they tell people when they are asked... heres some of the answers Report this postReply with quoteRe: What is glyos? whats the best answer? by monsterforge » Mon Sep 05, 2011 11:08 am I always say: "Glyos is a series of action figures and accessories created by artist/writer/designer Matt Doughty and produced by his company Onell Designs. Each figure is comprised of interchangeable parts that are capable of interacting with each other to allow for a truly interactive play pattern. Along with the toys is an expansive storyline that is constantly expanding. The stories and the toys have grown to incorporate parts from other artists who have collaborated with Doughty." Or even: "Glyos is the ultimate building system; it has grown past the boundaries of a toy line and has become an entity in its own right" ----------------------------------------------------------------- There's no best answer, but that's beside the point. That post doesn't pose a question. As I always say, good questions are asked after you do some of your own research. I also say that if you're hesitant to drop $20 into any toy line to test it, you probably have a reason that all the words in the world won't change. Paying $3 shipping on a $10 order and $6 on an $11 order is probably the biggest psychological obstacle, but that's pretty easy to figure out. If you order one Gobon, that's $13 shipped. If you order 4, that's $46 or $11.50 each. One Esedeth Glyan is $11 shipped; order 4 and it's $36 or $9.50 each. If you order one per week at the lower $3 shipping, that's $52 on the Gobons and $44 on the Glyans. So if you're really not sure, sample once or twice but know that you're not saving money with the small-order mindset. Otherwise, yeah. Glyos is fun. And you learn math and shit. capitano -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If someone asks me, I always give them the links to both Glyos websites, Marty's site, and this forum. That's the best answer I can give them so they can see for themselves, then the rest is up to them. Seems to have worked so far as I have brought a few people to the darkside!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Fun." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Its a "toy experience" that's for everyone. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I usually say something like - "Glyos is a series of buildable action figures with fully interchangeable parts. It was designed by Matt Doughty who, along with friends and family has built a cottage industry around these toys. They are manufactured under contract in small batches by a Chinese factory and sold directly online through the Onell Designs website. Glyos figures are very durable and also easy to customize, taking both paint and dye very well. Many customizers are also making unique Glyos pieces with urethane resin in even smaller batches at home." By this point the person has either droned out or (hopefully) they are interested and I give them the links to Onell & Callgrim blogs and tell them to kiss their paychecks and good credit rating goodbye. I then usually expound on how awesome it is that a guy got his dream to a production level, and that they're affordable and easy to collect and still directly reflecting the inventive passion of the creators. That's an answer for toy collectors of course.Taking out the "Hipster Trash."aimforthetop Posts: 120 Joined: Fri May 15, 2009 12:23 pm Private messageE-mail aimforthetopTop -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Report this postReply with quoteRe: What is glyos? whats the best answer? by Dex Antares » Tue Sep 06, 2011 4:59 am To see your enemies driven before you! To hear the lamentations of their wo- Aw, crap, wrong monologue. When I introduce laymen to Glyos, I usually tell them it's an independent toy line from a husband-and-wife team, with heavy contributions from their friends, family, and related artists, sculptors, even musicians (at least one, anyway) and programmers. I tell people it's like Lego, in that the pieces can be taken apart and infinitely reconfigured (a gross simplification, maybe, but the closest layman's term I can think of, since more people know about Lego than Glyos). As for what Glyos means to me personally, well, it's great because it's still sort of "underground." This is the most edgy toy line I've ever collected XD Plus, I've met so many great people through this site. Ersico, Nezumiiro, Monsterforge... I could go on, but I'd basically be listing every member here. You guys all rock, big time. That makes Glyos the most SOCIAL toy line I've ever collected as well. Dex Antares -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I usually say it's an independent line of tiny figures. No one who asks me are into toy collecting normally that a more in-depth answer is required. GREAT LINKS Glyos Transmission Web Log Callgrim Blog Action Figures! TGB CUSTOMS and my favorite forum for talking/trading/showing off glyos/callgrim/osm figs and this week, phil reed is doing a special glyos week over at BattleGrip and heres my photobucket album with my glyos figures and customs Onell Designs-GLYOS pictures by ersico - Photobucket i hope this helps...

They are the most fun you can have with tiny pocket sized toys. Like Micronauts but 100% more awesome. They're figures that are around 2.5-3 inches high. You can interchange their parts and build new forms.
Check them out. They are cheap for a small Independent company too. |

How'd I miss this thread??? I found out about these from Ersico posting his awesome customs on the lets see some cool stuff thread. After talking to him and finding out info, I decided to place an order from the onell design website. A small box of about 5 figures and a bunch of parts for $50 shipped wasnt too bad. At NYCC, I picked up a few of the unreleased figures and one of the owners handed me a handful of parts when I went to pay. So far im loving them, small but yet detailed and reminds me of old school toys. Simple and fun to mess around with and change around the parts to make whatever you want and how you want it.

Why not read the second post and get an idea of what your posting in.

Thats exactly how I feel every time I see something new. Have you seen Ersico's customs. They are ridiculous. Glyos are much better in hand once you get a chance to start swapping parts.
Check out the onell website when you get a chance, check out the blog and online store to get a good idea of what they are about.

Totally their great as stock figs but tearing them down to rebuild is where the real fun comes then to paint them adds a whole new level of enjoyment

I like the customizing ability on these, but personally they lack personality/character that I associate with Marvel/DC/MOVIE/Games. There's something missing from these toys that makes me want them, aww well more for you guys and more $$ for my IM/Marvel Collection.
