I think the Rebels figures were Fan Channel releases. The only physical stores I can remember seeing them in were Books-A-Million and Gamestop.
Back on topic for this thread, I'm not a big fan of the plastic free packaging. My only concern is swapped figures. I know Target has stopped accepting returns for open collectibles but I don't know how strongly they enforce that policy. Sometimes it's a matter of who is working the returns desk. I've never heard of Walmart having a similar policy. However, I do think that plastic free packaging is a good idea. Based on a quick Google search, it can take a couple of months for cardboard to decompose when left outside, exposed to the elements. Plastic on the other hand can take several decades, if not centuries. There are other factors that can slow down or speed up card board decomposition. But if my toy packaging is ending up in a landfill, then the biodegradable option is better in the long run. |

And this is why this plastic-less packaging is asinine. This was a figure the employee at Target pulled out of their box for the first time.

The box looks smushed but then so do a lot of boxes that have plastic in them. I bought a Studio Series Revenge of the Fallen Megatron for my kid which did have plastic window and plastic tray but was still crushed. It was the only one left in the store and I did manage to get discounted because of the box so that's something. The Blaster figure looks fine unless I'm missing something. His head's there, tape deck buttons, paint looks fine on his yellow chest. |

K2SO was voiced by none other than the former pilot of the serenity, Hoban Washburn.

I can't say I'm a fan of this idea.
I like to inspect figures in the store before I buy them. I'm picky. Things like paint, face details (especially eyes), accessories all accounted for, and making sure the figure is correctly assembled with all the correct parts. I can only imagine how many returns I might have to make if I'm unlucky with this blind box style packaging. I never did end up buying a Classified Cobra Commander because every single one I saw, even while he was pegwarming, had horrendously sloppy paint. Especially the cobra sigils and the silver on his arms. I don't mind doing minor touch ups and fixes every now and then because I can do it, but I'd prefer to save myself the time and paint by being picky about what I buy. Especially with how much these figures cost now. This decision feels like it was made in a boardroom by people who don't know or don't care about what consequences there will be for customers, or retailers for that matter. Swappers and thieves will be a concern for sure. I just can't imagine this being the future for all of their lines, but they seem to be committed to it. I care about the environment and the planet like most people do, but a lot of what we see being done now feels hollow or pointless compared to the bigger picture. |

Looks like I wasn't the only one who has decided to inspect figures before I buy them. I saw a Starscream today at Walmart who had the box opened up.

Boxed figures, worst idea since greedo shooting first.

on the other hand, while it is largely separate from our plastic pollution issue, reducing beef consumption would have a very significant impact i.e. not 'virtue-signaling'. yes, if everybody gave up beef tomorrow we'd still have deforestation, we'd still have methane pollution, we'd still have fast-food restaurants specializing in other low-quality foods. but it would be a big step in a better direction. and for what it's worth, California’s attorney general has recently opened up an investigation into the Exxon’s role in our global plastic waste problem.
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/04/28/cali...pollution.html I'm not saying that any sort of individual action to reduce one's waste isn't important, but (in my opinion) this sort of accountability is crucial in reducing single-use plastic. like, way more crucial than merely getting rid of plastic windows/bubbles on action figures. Fucking repackers!!!
First time since they tried to charge me $99 for Cogs I come across three of them today, only for two of them to be Blue Buster in Cog packaging. And people say I'm in the wrong for wanting to open the windowless packages in store?

You said you had moved past this just two weeks ago (or so) and now we are here again with you shoehorning a windowed-box figure swap into a whiny narrative loosely related to Hasbro's pending windowless pivot. It has been established that you buy from multiple online retailers without seeing what you are paying for making your complaints about this empty ones. Either open up the boxes at retail in fulfillment of your threats to be a nuisance or STFU and deal with it like the rest of the 'adult' collecting community is doing. What I said was that you lack empathy and emotional intelligence based on your expressed willingness to make a scene over something this small and trivial. You have shared many times over your retail working experience, so you know about 'shrink' and the likelihood of being confronted for opening up something in-store. While you have recently talked up worker's rights and meaninglessly parroted progressive labor stances, over the years, I have read numerous comments you have made that have been derisive and borderline abusive of retail employees calling them lazy and comparing them to your time at Bestbuy (or wherever it was that you worked retail). You are self-absorbed and your personal problems seem to supersede those of all others around you, which is as evident in this scenario as it has been in many of the comments you have made about retail employees.

If you keep your figs sealed and you can't see what's inside... what's the guarantee you have anything at all? You might as well have an empty box.

For example, he actually thought that just because he puts things in recycling bins, they will be recycled. He probably doesn't know that unless you separate plastic that's glued to cardboard (such as toy packaging), the machines at the recycling plant will just divert it into landfill waste.

Geez, what’s going to be his excuse for his attitude this time?
1) Trying to win in a self-crusade against Todd McFarlane and failing? 2) Not getting the toy that he wanted online last week? 3) Blaming the pandemic? 4) Fill in the blanks We know that self-absorbed people like to make a scene anyway so I say let ‘em be. So I put my eggs in the number 4 basket as he will claim he is only trolling trying to get a rise out of people. (Too which I would say no one should put any weight on anything he posts because even when it hits the nail on the head it is still riddled with the stench of trolling) |

Having a bit of time removed from the Spider-man announcement.
Online orders - Plastic free packaging is perfectly fine. You can't see the item. If anything if possible, I'd like the option to get a generic no frills box. Some laptops just come in a boring brown box an it's wonderful. Now I would like the option to get a plastic box with all the frills if I want but it doesn't need to be the standard. In Store - Oh man is it a mess with Hasbro. The Ninjetti figures for the lightning collection line. I would have been PI**ED if I couldn't see the figure before buying. As the paint QC and leg QC was a mess. This is far more a Hasbro issue. Most of the time I can just pick up a Mcfarlane figure. I can just pick up a Bandai figure. NECA, I'm a little picky on before sometimes they get drips and scrapes. But that's only because I have options. Again, I want security measures if they are going to do this. Have tape and shows if it's been peeled or cut. Or maybe some sliders to verify the figure is in the box. |

Some line specific printed tape would be nice. So for MLs it would have Marvel Legends printed in white on the clear tape. Then it's obvious if the tape has been cut or replaced with regular invisible tape.

more proposals that would do a hell of a lot more to get rid of unnecessary plastic than just mere toy packaging
cuz honestly while I'm not especially beholden to the plastic on my figure cards/boxes, I'd still rather see progress be made in other areas. |
