I have just bought the first of what I hope are many Plastic Man comics. This issue is 45 from March 1954. It is composed of a few short stories like most books had back then. It was thought back then readers wanted many stories versus one full issue. Also like most books from the time there was little overarching plot and stories did not have elements from on book to another with any real meaning. It was a pretty nice read and I was impressed at the way the character was portrayed. Mostly today he seems as a jokester and not depth. He is comedy and sometimes over the top. The real reason he has some real use is Grant Morrison used him in JLA. I didn't expect too much but it was good. The first story he fights this guy they call Ogre who gets powers and causes problems. Plas uses his wits to catch him in a dynamo to suck away his powers. The second story is about Woozy Winks his sidekick who likes a woman who is a money grubber and in the end she goes out with him because he gets cash. She also is seen offering a match to Woozy so he would use a bit of dynamite to kill himself. The third story a woman notices a murder and seems indifferent to it. Plas follows her to protect her but she doesn't notice him or the guys trying to kill her. It turns out she didn't have her contacts in and she was unaware of what was going on around her. The last story is about Plas and Woozy seeing a crashing space ship. They go and investigate and find out people are being kidnapped. Plas chases the aliens into the ship and trick them into launching it off.

There are not artist or writers credited which I understand was normal and this issue was pre comic code so it had a few things that wouldn't pass by after. Not all that bad and I do hope to get two more soon.

That's fantastic artwork for 1954, man. That rivals and even kicks the butt of many of the modern artists.

My LCS might be getting Plas 27 and 41 so if they are not too much I will pony up the cash. I can't believe how cheap this one was and I would be more then willing to put out more for something in better condition.

The owners are going out to a place in WVA of a family selling things. I heard the list and got excited. Most were western but most sounded to be good Golden age and All Star Flash and All Star something else and the two other Plastic Man books. They have moved up high on my list.

Sure do! He is one of my pride and joys. I have him displayed with Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. I call them the 3 stooges
