Gotta go with DinoRiders, as well. I never really cared that much for the humanoid figures in the Sectaurs line, though the mounts were pretty cool. The puppetry aspect made it fun to spook my sister and her friends.

But as with Transformers, Dinobots over Insecticons any day

Dino Riders easily win this one. One of the greatest ideas for a toy line ever, and one that really, really needs to come back with a modern touch. I'm also patiently waiting for someone to get the license and make this property into the one of the coolest video games of all time. I'm guessing I'll be waiting a while...

I will say these 80's polls have me mourning the days when secondary toy lines could start up with no multi media support.
And IMHO the Imaginext line iy skewed younger.

I voted Sectaurs because I never had or played with Dino-Riders. Although Dino-Riders looks superior, I cast my vote for what I was familiar with.

Dinosaurs beat everything. Especially bugs.
Dinoriders was one of the best, and most imaginative lines of the 80s. On top of that, the dinosaur toys are one of only *two* realistic and accurate (Or at least as of then) dinosaur toylines.

I personally find it pathetic that in over 20 years, no other true actionfigure line, besides Jurassic Park has even bothered to try to create even remotely scientifically accurate dinosaur action figures. (This does not include the occasional museum toy)

Even a lot of recent "museum" toys are no better than JP toys. And half of all recent toys (even the museum ones) basically clone JP's CGI versions, assuming that JP was 100% accurate. (and that no new evidence has ever been found since JP3 came out).

Case in point: 90% of Dilophosaur figures have a big frilled crest.

Jurassic Park the movie was not accurate at all. The toys were about as well as one could expect and are, at least in my opinion, the best dinosaur toys to date.

And since we now know the colors of many dinosaurs, It's safe to say we know a lot more about them since JPIII. (Although, from what it seems they decided to play more to the real animals, and the real science with JPIII than Spielberg did with JP and Lost World. Some artistic lisences of course to help make the movie work)

I just want a some really good dinosaur toys. Accurate to the latest knowledge, decent posability, and hopefully something resembling scale. No 20' velociraptors please. They were 6' long in real life. That ment they were as big as a turkey.
If they come with lasers and aliens displaced in time, that makes them so much cooler.

The funny thing is, Imaginext isn't even scientifically accurate, either (and that's even allowing for the kiddie-style look). Maybe the toy makers think that if they get too accurate, they'll lose the fantasy aspect of it (pure rubbish of course, but then I'm not a toy maker).

I will say that Jurassic Park would have been a completely different movie if they had used the real version of V. mongoliensis instead of its "cousin", Deinonychus.

You might want to clarify that a raptor's body was about the size of a turkey but its total length from snout to tail was about six feet. Otherwise, people might assume that you have six-foot-long turkeys living near you.

Definitely Sectuars. Something about insect hand puppets makes this a pretty cool line, plus they have better articulation on these figures than the Retaliation vehicle figures now!!!

I still have pretty much my entire collection, including the Hive. That thing ruled!!!

There's a toyline called Dinosaur Train (I... think? I've seen it at target as was mildly impressed) ment for real little kids, that's more scientifically accurate than Imaginext.
Extremely kiddy, but some of their dinosaur (And even non-dinosaur) selections are very impressive.

They sadly weren't even representations of Deinonychus. The Velociraptors speilberg used were completely fictional. Deinonychus were 13' long, which puts them at being around 4' tall. Maybe 5' for some of the larger.
In the original book though, the Velociraptors were true to life size, and played a much smaller part.

Yeah, from what I understand, Crichton based his novel on Gregory S. Paul's taxonomy which referred to Deinonychus as Velociraptor antirrhopus. But that terminology fell out of usage by the time the movie was made. Also, Spielberg purposely made them even larger in size, due to their increased role as antagonists. The funny part about that is that after the film came out, larger skeletons of Deinonychus were found that roughly matched the sizing depicted in the film.

That's the biggest problem I see when doing anything involving dinosaurs. The science and our understanding of dinosaurs is fluid - it changes with each new piece of data. I distinctly remember a time when it was thought that no dinosaurs had feathers (even though they were considered ancestors of birds). Now there is conclusive proof to the contrary.

Grimlock from G1 is a prime example of this as well. When his toy was first made, his dinosaur mode was considered a (mostly) accurate version of what a T-Rex would have looked like. Now we know that it was way off.

I have seen the Dinosaur Train show and toys (my daughter is a big fan) and I applaud the show's creators for trying to be as accurate as possible given the style and theme. And IIRC, they had accurate versions of both Deinonychus and Velociraptor.
