Why won't my paint dry?
I've been painting the weapons on my new Nick TMNT figures and the paint doesn't seem to want to completely dry. I'm using Testors acrylic for plastics but after days or drying they still feel a little tacky. Am I doing something wrong? Or not doing something I'm should be?

Did you wash your parts in Dawn first? That is usually the problem, mold release is still on the plastic from the factory, the softer the plastic, the more the mold release.

First I would double check that you are using acrylics, the symptoms definitely sound like the behavior of enamels on "soft" plastics.
That being said, if you are in fact using acrylics, strip off the paint with alcohol or nail polish remover and start over. The stripping should also remove any greases/mold releases. Scuffing the surface with some 800-1000 grit sand paper will help the paint adhere. Paint with multiple, thin coats too. |
Or a good primer, it helps on soft plastic where paint would otherwise by sticky.

Yeah I didn't do any of that. I'm not experienced with any customizing. I'm going to try and strip them and start over see how that goes. That's for all the help guys!
