Poll: Back to the Future 3 3/4 inch?
I was talking recently with someone about movie toylines and we had differing opinions regarding Back to the Future. As someone who loves the movies I thought that a 3 3/4 inch toyline (with compatible car, etc) would go down very well with collectors and general toyfans alike. He, not being fan (not against them - just never seen them - aware by osmosis) said he didn't think a toyline for the BttF movies would have strong appeal.
I think Back to the Future is the single most under-represented movie (for it's appeal) in the toyworld. It had no decent toys then, and it still doesn't now (notwithstanding one or two nice DeLorean releases). What are your feelings? The options above say it all. |
I'd buy them (unless Mattel made them), but I'd buy almost anything from the 80's.

I actually would NOT buy those. not a big fan of the Back to the Future stuff. sorry if that dampens people's day
|
Not in that scale. I don't see much point personally.
|
I see this like the indiana jones line. wonderful theory, less than overwhelming reality.
I'd run right out and pick up Marty and Doc....and thats really it. There are 1/18th bttf Deloreans available And I havent bought on yet. |

I don't think the 3 3/4 scale would work. I would TOTALLY buy them but I can't make up all the profit for the company. Besides, mattel would probably make them and they would suck. If NECA had license to figures that would be the dream. At least a few marty and doc with einstein. A set for each movie- 85 doc and marty with standard costume and hazmat suits, 2015 doc and marty and then old west doc and marty. but then Biff would be cool, and that leads to George and you can't have him without lorraine. And what line would be complete without strickland or even marshall strickland! Damn they need to make these.
|
I don't think there's enough characters to sustain the line longer than 1 or 2 series. I'd be more interested in 6'' B2TF figures.
|
Of course!!! I would love to see some 3.75 in. figures, and all the characters! There are so many more than Doc and Marty, but I would take just those two. :D
Also I would take a new DeLorean, but the one they already made in that scale would work. |
It's my favorite movie! I would buy Marty and Doc on site. I have the Diamond Select car with lights and sounds and it really needs the characters to fit inside. I don't collect 3 3/4 figures at all but I would totally make an acception for those two. Oh and Einstien!!

Do I love Back to the Future...sure, that's pure 80's gold. Do I need action figures from a movie with very little interesting action? Not at all.
|
I'd probably pick them up if they ever made any. And I think this would be one line where I'd actually want multiple versions of the main characters, along with in-scale versions of the 4 Time Machines.
Using Marty as an example, I can think of eight figures that could be made: 1. 1985 Marty (w/skateboard and clock tower flyer) 2. 1985 Haz-Mat Suit Marty (w/removable helmet, camcorder and Walkman) 3. 1955 Marty (w/crate scooter which converts to skateboard same as in movie) 4. 2015 Marty (w/Sports Almanac and hoverboard) 5. 2015 Business-Suit Marty (w/briefcase and "You're Fired!!!" memo) - part of SDCC Exclusive "Are You Chicken?" 2-pack w/2015 Needles (played by RHCP's Flea) 6. 1955 "Greaser" Marty (w/Walkie-Talkie and Western Union telegram) 7. 1955 Cowboy Marty (w/hoverboard and Walkie-Talkie) 8. 1895 "Eastwood" Marty (w/pie tin and six-shooter) And that's not even counting MJF's other roles in the film (i.e. relatives), or any of the other main characters. Also, the Haz-Mat Suit version could have an alternate deco for when he uses it 1955, and make that version an NYCC exclusive. |

There aren't really enough characters to carry a BttF line and the same goes for the A-Team even before Jazwares loused it up like they always do. The only reason Indy worked as well as it did was because it drew from four movies, one of which was playing in theatres, and even then it didn't do particularly well. Frankly, what all of these shows/movies needed was a 6" line, where we would've gotten fewer better figures for a reasonable price. But with mainstream stuff like Marvel Legends and DC Classics at or over $20 now, that's a bigger pipe dream than ever. |
Wave 1
Marty (50’s outfit) Doc (Young) Marty’s Mom (Young) Biff Vehicles: DeLorean Wave2 Doc (Radioactive suit) Marty (80’s) Jennifer Parker “Marty’s Girlfriend” Marty’s Dad (Young) Pending Crispin Glover approval Vehicles: Nuclear Van (Fits DeLorean inside) would be big but mostly hollow cutting on cost Wave 3 Marty (Future Outfit) Doc (Future Outfit) Biff (Old) 3-D (Biff’s Goon) Vehicles: Future Flying Delorean Wave 4 Marty (Wild West Outfit) Doc (Wild West Outfit) Biff (Wild West Outfit) Clara Clayton (Doc’s Girlfriend) Vehicles: Steam Engine Time Machine Each figure will come with a stand and accessory: Skateboard, Hover board, Future almanac, Manure head gear, just to name a few. If early waves sell well there could be at least another wave with Vehicle. Sure there would be a lot of Martys, docs and Biffs, but every wave would come with at least one fresh character. Even if you not a big fan (if done & sized well) they still would make great background civilian characters for other 3.75 lines. |
